The album is terrible, and not because it's slow. Incubus has made some amazing slow songs in their career. Unfortunately, these songs are just not good. Isadore & Adolescents are the only high points for me. Hope they come back with a better record next tiem.
Very well put "It's great for what it is" going into this album I didn't know what to expect, as they have a different feel every new album they put out, and I must admit after my first listen, I was confused with some of ultra mellow tracks, but after the 5th listen or so I begain to hear that "vintage" Incubus sound, I appreciate every single song as I do with every one of their other albums. Brandon Boyd has always found a way to make whatever vocals he puts out work, this is no different!
@quicksand26 Thats a good way to put it "vintage" because while many would not see a connection to the Incubus of the past, I feel a close listen will show that this is just another great album along their career.
I mean they play really good as usual but these songs are sort of "banal" and "already heard"-like. It's not about hardness or about speed, the wrote a lot of amazing "slow songs" (the warmth, aqueous trasmission, wish you were here, just to give some names), but i think that the new ones are less vivid and "full". There's no sound experiments, nor particular arrangements, everything is so "pop". I' m waiting for the album to get out so i can hear it completely and i will always be a fan of them
@anoinio Thanks for checking out the review and leaving your comments. On some level I agree with what you're saying and that is reflected in my comments about the overall range of this album. However I also have found much more complexity and "feel" after several more listens, especially to the first half of the album. Give it a chance when you pick it up, and do yourself a favor and listen with headphones. I think you'll find some of what you're missing.
Hi everybody i'm an italian fan of this amazing musicians. I have been lovin' them since the album s.c.i.e.n.c.e. and the are definitively one of my favourite band. I'm a singer in a band and i've been studying music for years and what i liked the most was their approach to music. I mean the arrangements, the sounds, the lines, they're very experimental and "free". I've been listening to a few tracks of the new album for some days but i have to admit that's lot less interesting the the others
@Hilikus29 Very glad you found it helpful. The more I listen to the album the more I like it. And if you see the cover songs by Justin Jennings (I see them in the side bar) check them out, he's super talented
@rjkahlon Thanks for the comment, I think that given a chance most Incubus fans, and hopefully some not yet, will find something to love on this album
