Many government employees pay more than many private sector employees for health care. Many private companies offer matching funds for 401K contributions. For government employees, this is illegal. Most government employees pay the lions share of their retirement. Don't be fooled by the ads. Do some research.
SB5 gives the government more control over it's people. No hard data has been released as to how it will save taxpayers money. Police pay for performance means more ticket writing. Increased ticket writing moves us toward a police state. Sorry , this hard line Republican is voting no.
Issue 2 makes gov employees pay _15 %- into their own pensions. WHAT??????? That means tax payers( me) pays the other 80% !!! My husband pays 100% of his pension! Same with health care. Why is it that if you get a govt. job you expect more pay =25-40%= more than same job in the private sec. And what right do gov employees think they have the right to strike? Your pay checks come out of MY pocket!!! ---- VOTE YES ON ISSUE 2----- No more free rides Make them work like the rest of us!
@MyNameMakesNoSense Thats NOT a joke, Voting "Yes" on issue 2 makes it ILLEGAL to negiotate for enough firefighters... which means not enough firefighters to do the job. My father is a firefighter and he knows that this the wrong thing to pass. @megazwatcher Do you REALLY think they are going to get rid of firefighters completely? And btw just common sense in my book if most firefighters are AGAINST issue 2, doesnt that immediately flag voting "yes" on issue 2 as a BAD IDEA?
i'm not talking about getting rid of anyone, i'm talking about the right to go on strike
you understand a strike?
it's where all union employees ALL refuse to do their jobs until their employers agree to their demands
issue 2 is just a bid to repeal Senate bill 5 which makes striking for more equipment and such illegal.
as for firefighters voting against a bill that will take away the power to blackmail the state and impose their will on their employers? big surprise there
it is a joke that unions funnel union dues into democrat election campaigns, and then negotiate their contracts with the same politician they got elected! vote yes!

This is not a means to "save money". This is a means to expand the power of the employer...I hope Issue 2 and other such schemes are voted down across the country.
union lies dont believe this bull , this is no about staffing levels, because if 2 is voted down there will be less school teachers fire fighters ,teachers, because there will be less money to pay them with. better wake up Ohio, the unions are playing a ponzi scheme on you.house of cards that will collapse under its own weight.
Its an easy decision ..im voting YES!police and fire are paid for with LOCAL tax dollars.my city saw a fire station close yet i and others here paid over 1 million dollars into their pensions and we pay a portion of their health care.ohio has towns like mine all over that are strapped..im voting yes to help get my town back in order.im not letting a union tell me where MY tax dollars should go
i know one thing that makes this bill very stupid is that the state of ohio doesnt pay the firefighters and policemen their salaries. Your town pays for the salaries, so why is the state involved with something that should be dealt with on a local level?
1 more thing about issue 2.Fireman, police, teachers, aren't the only public employees. What about the people that are trying to push this bill through? The very fact that this bill EASILY made the ballot shows how out of line this is. The very fact that these elected officials have quietly exempted themselves from this bill shows how bad of a bill it is. 94% of all public employees already pay at least 10% for pension, & 90% pay toward health insurance. The wrong groups are getting attacked here
im with u Weezy! Another thing we don't need right now with things being that they are is more tax hikes. THAT, is what will happen if we vote no on issue 2. We need to say enough is enough. Vote "YES"!!!!!
Vote yes on 2. SB5 must stay. Us working Ohioans in the private sector are being sqeezed to pay for the FAT pay, benefits, and especially the retirement package. We in the private sector are have not been keeping up with the state workers. You need to understand that property taxes are killing us. And colemans 1/2 percent (25% in real terms) did not help either. I get NO pension. NO benefits - when I retire at age 67. NO 30 and out. NO frills. Do you State workers understand?
Not enough room here to explain why unions were formed over 100 years ago. Read up on that. Most union represented workers ARE private sector, not government. No they're not perfect. Yes, property taxes are bad. So much money wasted. Buying into the us vs them mentality is exactly what SB5 proponents want. They're using you. Seek the truth. Don't believe the lies.
@trekOCLVone If SB5 had only been about healthcare and retirement reforms for state workers, there wouldn't be a referendum now. The outrage came when the ability to negotiate fairly and 3rd party arbitration was taken away. You do realize the bill only made it thru committee because the republicans substituted known objectors to the bill with those who would support it. Even then it only made it out of committee by a narrow vote. Kasich went too far and everyone knows it. Vote NO
@bricknboxer The the private sector there has been no negotiations and no arbitration - forever. No union to prop up the dead wood either. Why to you need arbitration if you go into work every day and do the work of 3 people like us in the private sector. The work load increased everyday. The tax burden on us is outrageous. My property tax is sucking the life out of me. No pension, No benifits, ZIP when I retire hopefully at age 67 when I get to 100% of my SS. If it exist then

Last year, we lost 559 AMERICAN soldiers. Last year, Ohio lost less then 12 Police Officers. Next time a Police Officer says he has more rights then tax payers, tell him to say that to man or women fighting for THEIR RIGHT to be paid MORE then the solider! You damn union fucks! Your all paid more then the military who are DIEING for you fuckin right to strike and be paid more then them! You don't like the pay or job, you can quit!
Collective bargaining has nothing to do with staffing guidelines. It has to do with compensation and striking. 15% is a small amount to pay for health care and retirement, and as far as I'm concerned, workers in the public sector should not be allowed to strike, because they serve the public, who has no choice in other services! Soo much for these people being so brave and tough, turns out their just in it for a paycheck! That's right, it's called Human Action, MORONS!
@jedmondson67 Many public workers such as my self are not allowed to strike by law already, It apperars that you already believe that we are too important to strike and you probably already know that all most all public employees pay at least 15% of their health care already and, I assume you don't believe in slavery so what do you think we should provide our services for?
So they can't do their jobs as good cause there not getting free money from hard working ohioins. I say YES!! on Two everyday. They should have to pay just like we all pay!
So, you want the UNIONS continue to control the public employee pensions/benefits until it’s totally bankrupt? When Ohio can NO LONGER PAY and defaults THEN WHAT? You are left hanging. Whose fault will it be?
Example, a chief law officer of a SW Ohio county retired last year to a pension equal to about 90% of his salary, free medical insurance, and several $100K in one-time benefits (unused leave etc.) How many tax payers does it take to support this one public retiree's benefits?
20% of my health care, over 11% in my own retirement. My employer contributes to it as well, much like an employer would for a 401K. That money comes from the taxpayers who vote overwelmingly in favor to fund us because they want us here. What does one pay for social security benefits? 7% or 8%? If you want a bunch of cops running around trying to show they do a "good job" by writing a bunch of BS tickets, then by all means vote YES, I'm voting NO. You should 2! This is bad for Ohio! Vote NO!
I don't know 1 police officer, firefighter, or teacher that chose this profession for money. Those comments are ridiculious. Some of you have questioned why public employees get a pension and you dont? I don't know, maybe that's something to consider before choosing your career. One reason is because we won't draw social security benefits. It's not free for us. There are changes that are needed for a few, but most public employees pay their fair share, most of the time, more. I pay (cont>>>>>>>>
@DMarklin25 I was going to vote no, but I see and hear so many stories of firefighters saving people and animals, I have decided to vote yes. Plus my sister and I had to call out the paramedics for my mom this morning, so that clinched it. I am even going to vote for a sales tax increase, never have done that. I hope, if it passes, that it goes to hiring more firefighters and police. Hopefully the city won't waste it if it passes. Thank you for what you do, Ohio is behind you. God Bless.
yea, what you gonna do when the firemen or paramedics don't come because they are all on strike?
that's what issue 2 is really about, the right to refuse to serve and protect until the city shells out more money, money the city will have to take from somewhere else.
also issue 2 will allow government employees to pay less of the cost of their medical insurance, guess who gets to make up the difference? YOU.
Responsible self sufficient people will vote YES on issue to All the government dependent Democrats will cry and moan until the rich are the only ones paying taxes and they are half way there with 50% of the country already not pay ANY taxes...VOTE YES ON ISSUE 2...No more free ride for government employees !!!
Vote YES on Issue 2 .Stop these peoples free ride on the rest of us. Make them pay for there comfy retirement, make them pay to go to the doctor like the rest of everyone...If anything is going to cause shortages in staffing for police and fire it is all of the Democrats telling half the country they don't have to pay ANY taxes like is the current situation...All of you sickening people that expect the gov to do everything for you but then never want to pay your taxes are scum.
@tyedyesky420 Its actually many democrats who want to raise taxes and cut certain spending, such as the bloated military budget, but its the Republicans who shoot it down because they don't want to raise taxes,
Fire all current cops and firefighters and bring some NON-UNION workers in who are doing it because they WANT to, NOT because of the MONEY. Why do they get to have pensions and health care when the rest of us don't? They made a CHOICE to SERVE, and there is no reason for them to get paid when Ohio has HIGH UNEMPLOYMENT....just bring in someone else, anyone, there is so much unemployment that anyone will do these jobs for $7/hr...WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!
we never had unions for teachers, police or firefighters and they all did way better jobs, were way more pleasant and they weren't doing it for the money, they actually wanted to do it. the public unions have perverted our professions and created lazy, selfish, money grubbing fools out of everyone involved... the unions have gotten laws in place to protect workers, techincally they were effective, did their job, now they need to disban until needed again... we don't live in coal mining days...
Get rid of all these cops and firefighters, they all make over $200,000/year while sitting on their asses, then go home to big multi-million dollar mansions ALL ON YOUR TAX MONEY! VOTE YES ON ISSUE 2!
The Firefighter Union Boss here rides a round on a harley, lives in a nice home, pays about 60 bucks a month for health insurance a month and goes on vacation in Cancun twice a year. He responds to approximately 4 REAL fires a year. VOTE YES ON ISSUE 2
I love this stuff. Pass issue 2 and there will be fewer firefighters?? If we don't have to pay them so much, how would we end up with FEWER firefighters? If they quit their jobs because they don't make enough, there are 50 people waiting in line for each of their jobs. These workers and other public workers need to start getting paid what they are worth....not what they THINK they are worth. I just made my contribution to VOTE YES on ISSUE 2.
You are exactly correct. They will whine for a while and have "sick-outs", but ultimately these people should be paid less. Many of them are unemployable in the real world. VOTE YES ON ISSUE 2!
To vote yes is to tell these 'I'm better than you' union workers that live out of their Areas in the suburbs in $250K homes send their kids to the schools you can only dream about for yours. Tell these NON-Middle class 'Workers' Enough is enough, Im no ;longer paying for your easy life of luxury.
Support Issue2! stop the unions from abusing the taxpayers and property owners. Protect the middle class. Property taxes is already out of control. Dont listen to the lies. Vote yes on 2!
@tallguycleveland I'll put money on the fact that you are not a fire fighter, cop or a teacher so you really are talking out your butt. The lies are coming from people like you! We already pay the pension and health insurance percentages that you say the bill is all about -If thats all it is about, then why is it over 200 pages long? Push you propaganda somewhere else kasich lover!
@pipersmitty87 ..No i work 12 hours a day..pay my own heatlh insurance, my own pension and pay $5,000 a year in property taxes for a 1 bathroom house. What do I get for that $5,000...Nothing..but overpaid under worked teachers..who make $75,000 a year and work 1,200 a hours a year...so fuck you
@tallguycleveland --- While I agree with most of what you are saying, don't be a retard...You want to know what you get for your 5k? Each kid you have costs 8k to send to school each year...You get your butt protected from terrorists...you get clean water...you get a police deptment and fire department to protect you and literally hundreds of other programs the government provides for you all for ONLY $5,000 a year...And #2 you are a liar anyhow...There is no way you pay that much in >>>con't
You dont know shit! My house is not worth anywhere near 300K..and I actaully pay over $5,000. I dont have kids in the school system, I have never called the fire or police dept. Have a nice a day!
@tallguycleveland --- You may not have kids in the system now but you probably have or likely will at some point...And Ok let's assume you live in Cuyahoga County which has the higest Property Tax rate in Ohio, in order to pay $5000 in taxes you home would have to be worth at least $200k...So maybe 300k was a little high, that's if you live in Cuyahoga but if you live anywhere else then it would have to be even higher than $200k...But like I said you did/will have kids so shut up anyhow...
So..if your kids go to a private school or if you dont have kids..you should still pay up to 60% of your tax bill to a public school system? I hardly find that to be fair. What a about senior citizens, when their tax bills a are jacked up to pay for new schools they get crushed. A number of my neighbos have had to sell their homes because they live on a fixed income and they cant afford to pay the taxes...and thats fair? People should only be taxed for the services they use.
I am a Firefighter.I pay 10% into retirement- I pay for my health care-have had wage freezes for 4 years-give back five 8-hour unpaid days a year-had 0 overtime hours for the first 6 months of 2011-wear "lowest bid" safety gear, have a side job to make ends meet. I am concerned with issues of too little manpower and public safety (this is fact-not scare tactic) but will not be able to address that if issue 2 passes. I used to be Republican-now I am just conservative. I am voting NO on issue 2!
There are better things to worry about in ohio than this bullshit. How about they cut welfare and all the socialist programs, they simply dont work. I rather see ohio spend its money on infarstructure, so we can attract more businesses. Then when everyone gets a job and healthcare wont be a issue.
@1dbeall Wow, what an ignorant jackass you are. Perhaps you forgot what this country was founded on, people voting on laws, not politicians, dumbshit. You don't even have any reason for saying that, are you really that stupid? We might as well let out cities burn down, if society is as dumb as you that is...
I'm voting NO on issue 2. Collective bargaining gives these public workers a seat at the table to negiotate, not be told what their working conditions are going to be. Issue 2 is unfair, unsafe and hurts us all.
The worst part of this video is the MEDIA reporting it like it's truth. It's bullshit. How many of you actually researched what Issue 2 really was before blowing your load?
@thetruetragedy if you want to be able to do your job someday then you should vote YES on issue 2 considering you're a FUTURE teacher. When schools go to make budget cuts and have to layoff teachers, this bill will prevent them from laying those people off on the sole basis of seniority. So if you want to "do your job" like you say, then you should vote yes to protect yourself for doing a good job and keep from being laid off just because you have not been at a place 20+ years.
@Elite2121 What do you think the state is trying to do? Ohio's financial problems are all because of Union's...? if you don't stop Unions the states going bankrupt?? Really? you believe the Union's go down to the capitol and hold a gun when the state decides how to spend or should I say mispend all of your tax money? You just keep right on thinking that and when the state finally does go bankrupt the only person you have to blame is yourself. Vote NO on Issue 2 put the blame where it belongs
@jaeberly I dont belevie that teachers should be striking when they dont get there way .... i belevie this will bring a better productive workforce to ohio , keep the better employs and fire the worse ... My father got sued by a union when i was five because he wouldnt hire union employs because they get paid twice as much and dont work as hard as non union members ,im sorry but Unions in this day and age are just harmful for to today's economy ... So vote yes on issue 2

Vote no on issue #2 ! All the ads supporting it are complete lies. Who will take the police/fire jobs for peanuts? And remember if you do away with the Unions, there will be nothing to stop the police/fire from going on strike. Our cities would burn to the ground.
Yep this issue is a bunch of shit by that ass in Columbus. We will vote to preserve the collective bargaining rights of all employees. Those jerks who don't want any society go the hell to Somalia with not govt and no nothing! S
Get the real facts about issue 2! I can't afford any higher taxes, I pay 30+% of my health care and have no company pension only 401k. Why is it so terrible for people who I already pay their salaries to have to cough up 15% of their own health care? Or contribute to themselves some small portion to their retirement?
What they stated to the public about colective barganing is a false lie!!!!!!!!
Amagine your house on fire, someone you care about is trapped inside. The first fire engine pulls up to the schene and doesn't have enough personal on board to go inside the burning building. This could take minutes for another fire engine to arrive and in the mean time, your loved one is upstairs screaming to be rescued. We need our fire fighters. NOT YES, VOTE NO on issue two.
We all are going to have to suffer a little, the unions are corrupt and have stolen from the dues for years.. I feel bad for fire fighters.. and all those under the thumb of Union thugs! what about the other side of the coin
collective bargaining is just a blind for going on strike.
less firefighters is better then NO firefighters at all
and the money for more firefighters, more equipment, more nurses, more teachers, etc is going to come from where exactly?
money may be paper but is doesn't grow on trees
more funding to one dept, group, etc means another is going to get less, or none at all.
that means maybe no libraries, no financial aid, no trash collectors

two things here
collective bargining = power over their bosses
and
everyone has to join the union = a united front against the bosses
what if you can't afford union dues?
what if you have expenses that make paying union dues an excessive burden
what if you simply don't want to join the union?
defeat SB5 and you don't have a choice, join or lose your job

The very fact that these elected officials have quietly exempted themselves from this bill shows how bad of a bill it is. 94% of all public employees already pay at least 10% for pension, & 90% pay toward health insurance. The wrong groups are getting attacked here

We in the private sector are have not been keeping up with the state workers. You need to understand that property taxes are killing us. Don't believe the lies.
bricknboxer 4 months ago
And what is with the 15% health and 10% retirement. What about the pension pickups? This insane behavior has got to stop.
trekOCLVone 4 months ago
@trekOCLVone If SB5 had only been about healthcare and retirement reforms for state workers, there wouldn't be a referendum now. The outrage came when the ability to negotiate fairly and 3rd party arbitration was taken away. You do realize the bill only made it thru committee because the republicans substituted known objectors to the bill with those who would support it. Even then it only made it out of committee by a narrow vote. Kasich went too far and everyone knows it. Vote NO
bricknboxer 4 months ago
@bricknboxer The the private sector there has been no negotiations and no arbitration - forever. No union to prop up the dead wood either. Why to you need arbitration if you go into work every day and do the work of 3 people like us in the private sector. The work load increased everyday. The tax burden on us is outrageous. My property tax is sucking the life out of me. No pension, No benifits, ZIP when I retire hopefully at age 67 when I get to 100% of my SS. If it exist then

That's right, it's called Human Action, MORONS!
jedmondson67 4 months ago
@jedmondson67 Many public workers such as my self are not allowed to strike by law already, It apperars that you already believe that we are too important to strike and you probably already know that all most all public employees pay at least 15% of their health care already and, I assume you don't believe in slavery so what do you think we should provide our services for?

misssexbunny 4 months ago
So, you want the UNIONS continue to control the public employee pensions/benefits until it’s totally bankrupt? When Ohio can NO LONGER PAY and defaults THEN WHAT? You are left hanging. Whose fault will it be?
Example, a chief law officer of a SW Ohio county retired last year to a pension equal to about 90% of his salary, free medical insurance, and several $100K in one-time benefits (unused leave etc.) How many tax payers does it take to support this one public retiree's benefits?
Mandolin1944 4 months ago
20% of my health care, over 11% in my own retirement. My employer contributes to it as well, much like an employer would for a 401K. That money comes from the taxpayers who vote overwelmingly in favor to fund us because they want us here. What does one pay for social security benefits? 7% or 8%? If you want a bunch of cops running around trying to show they do a "good job" by writing a bunch of BS tickets, then by all means vote YES, I'm voting NO. You should 2! This is bad for Ohio! Vote NO!
DMarklin25 4 months ago 2

God Bless.
sueishere25 4 months ago
@sueishere25
yea, what you gonna do when the firemen or paramedics don't come because they are all on strike?
that's what issue 2 is really about, the right to refuse to serve and protect until the city shells out more money, money the city will have to take from somewhere else.
also issue 2 will allow government employees to pay less of the cost of their medical insurance, guess who gets to make up the difference? YOU.
i say vote no to striking firemen and paramedics
make them do their jobs

Vote YES on Issue 2 .Stop these peoples free ride on the rest of us.
1009stumpy 4 months ago
we never had unions for teachers, police or firefighters and they all did way better jobs, were way more pleasant and they weren't doing it for the money, they actually wanted to do it. the public unions have perverted our professions and created lazy, selfish, money grubbing fools out of everyone involved... the unions have gotten laws in place to protect workers, techincally they were effective, did their job, now they need to disban until needed again... we don't live in coal mining days...

I just made my contribution to VOTE YES on ISSUE 2.

tyedyesky420 4 months ago
You dont know shit! My house is not worth anywhere near 300K..and I actaully pay over $5,000. I dont have kids in the school system, I have never called the fire or police dept. Have a nice a day!
tallguycleveland 4 months ago
@tallguycleveland --- You may not have kids in the system now but you probably have or likely will at some point...And Ok let's assume you live in Cuyahoga County which has the higest Property Tax rate in Ohio, in order to pay $5000 in taxes you home would have to be worth at least $200k...So maybe 300k was a little high, that's if you live in Cuyahoga but if you live anywhere else then it would have to be even higher than $200k...But like I said you did/will have kids so shut up anyhow...
tyedyesky420 4 months ago
So..if your kids go to a private school or if you dont have kids..you should still pay up to 60% of your tax bill to a public school system? I hardly find that to be fair. What a about senior citizens, when their tax bills a are jacked up to pay for new schools they get crushed. A number of my neighbos have had to sell their homes because they live on a fixed income and they cant afford to pay the taxes...and thats fair? People should only be taxed for the services they use.
tallguycleveland 4 months ago
@tallguycleveland --- con't >>> in property taxes unless you home is worth over $300,000 so stop lying.

Then when everyone gets a job and healthcare wont be a issue.

thetruetragedy 5 months ago
@thetruetragedy if you want to be able to do your job someday then you should vote YES on issue 2 considering you're a FUTURE teacher. When schools go to make budget cuts and have to layoff teachers, this bill will prevent them from laying those people off on the sole basis of seniority. So if you want to "do your job" like you say, then you should vote yes to protect yourself for doing a good job and keep from being laid off just because you have not been at a place 20+ years.
