I loved the way everyone behaved during this unmasking of the villainous Nick- you'd think he'd poisoned their food, & the fact that he'd been scrawling names & trying to influence the nominations for weeks before this conversation doesn't reflect particularly well on the others for not speaking up sooner when it was clear that he was manipulating them.

Apparently the selection process for this show involved randomly picking names out of the phone book and then taking those who agreed to participate. I know it was pretty low budget but I much preferred this simple format. They spend a fortune now on ridiculous tasks which are always an anti-climax.

Yes that method of picking contestants is far more interesting... literally throwing together a bunch of people you know nothing abut and see what happens, see where it naturally goes. Now it is all SO contrived, so set up... everyone knows how it works so its not TRUE reality tv as it was back then.

This kind of thing is what made Big Brother so great in it's first series. The 10 (11 if you count Clare, who came in after Nick was booted out) housemates in the house were just ordinary people who had no idea if people were even watching them on TV, or what would happen to them after they left. As you say it was a social experiment. Now people know what happens, and are just there to be famous.
