Larry King was excellent at directing conversation in a way that would make viewers interested in what the guest was saying. All Piers Morgan cares about is making the guests say something offensive or controversial.
It is amazing to me when I have said the exact same thing he is saying here, when trying to explain to Christians why I am an agnostic atheist and don't believe in the God of the bible or that Jesus was his son. It's true. There is a time when we grow up and try to learn things for ourselves not stories that were taught to us as children to scare us into behaving and into blind faith, without any evidence except for what it is written in one book. It is crazy.
i'm not saying for you to believe in god but religion is not the problem it is some of the people that abuse it. atheist have also killed lots of people. there is a good side and a bad side gandhi, martin luther king, and others have done good because of their belief. i think religion is about hope and being thankful for life. im not catholic christian or go to any church i just believe in god.
lmao all the atheist and Christians here need to fuck off. paragraph ward over this shit grow up. all of you think you would run the country so well hhahaha morons get a job
I wish atheists would start answering "well what do you think happens after you die" properly. There's an actual, correct answer to that. Maybe not the most exciting answer, but there is one. Say I had a hypothetical box, it's locked up tight, and shielded well enough that you can't run any sort of MRI's or other scans to see what's inside. If I ask "what's in the box", the actual, correct answer is "I don't know. There is literally no way to find out. I'm secure enough in myself to admit that."
@SolaceAvatar I'm secure enough to admit that I think my consciousness is solely the product of biochemical reactions in my own brain. A dead brain cannot function, thus it seems a reasonable to me to assume that upon death my identity and self-awareness will cease to exist. The brain and consciousness are super mysterious but their functions are not 100% inscrutable, since the brain -unlike your black box- can in fact be MRI'd and x-rayed and zapped and prodded while its owner is still alive.
I love Ricky Gervais even though I am not an atheist. Its all about mutual respect between all beliefs or ideas. The one thing I disagree with is what he said about creation. I don't think many Christians still believe in the creation story of earth being formed in 6 days. I don't really believe much of anything in the old testament. I just believe in a higher power, not organized religion. The idea of a God is an amazing mystery that will never be solved by science or religion.
@Wrathmont313 IDK. The old testament was created by authors who were trying to explain their surrounding environment. The story of Adam and eve was conjured up by people who lived in a harsh climate. Therefore, they assume that there must have been a paradise that once existed. It was an ancient investigation of "why do we live such uncomfortable lives?" God is transcendent. God never made up the words God, religion, time, or space. These are just the byproducts of human free-will.
Why should an atheist or agnostic have to defend their ability to love or feel amazed at natures beauty? If you dont have those things as part of your life, you're not really human, right?
All human beings from time immemorial have, based on reason and experience, operated under the principle that highly specified information (i.e. drawings on cave walls, inscriptions in stone, poetry, computer code, etc.), and functional complexity beyond a certain level (bicycle, tape recorder, computers, etc.), are always the result of intelligent purpose and intervention. This is based on what we do know and experience about the sources of specified information and functional complexity.
@ejdf870 Difference between santa claus, tooth fairies and God is hes screaming out his existence to you on a daily basis but you refuse to see it. It has nothing to do with growing up
What, you don't hear him? or her? or it? or whatever God is (a man I guess, according to most Christians/Jews) He's obviously "screaming" out his existence since there's so many different religions in the world (?????????????)... maybe he's just not screaming loudly enough...???
@firelawn74 Various parts of the world developed a religion around their own version of a God, it has nothing to do with any Gods ''screaming out their/it's existence'' lol. Unless you have reasonable evidence to prove so.
That's what I’m saying.... sorry, my sarcasm sometimes masks my intentions... guess I need to work on that.
I agree; religion is more geographical than realistic. I guess if Muslims would have settled North America more so than European Christians, most "Americans" would consider themselves Muslim today (other than the Native Americans that were shoved into internment camp...er reservations.) I have no evidence of God, so unlike religion, I admit I don't know how it all began.
@ejdf870 Hmm... really? Mind telling me the answers you had to these arguments for god while you were growing up?

Also I can make several arguments as to why tooth fairy and santa don't exist. can you explain what argument's led you to believe that a god doesn't exist?
This atheist movement is nothing more than intellectual mob violence. And, as always happens with mob violence, the innocent are persecuted for the crimes of the guilty. The Bible, the Dhammapada, the Koran, atheism, agnosticism doesn't kill people. People kill people. Immoral cretins who believe in God will hurt you; immoral cretins who don't believe in God will hurt you.

@trj1370 OK, let's not get out of hand here. Morgan is just asking compelling questions in a direct way. He's not oblivious or biased, and Gervais isn't reacting to him that way either. @tremontirocks I don't think Piers gets it. He laughs when Ricky mentions not being offended by religious people, despite Ricky being completely serious. His questions aren't compelling, they're oblivious and biased. Obviously people agree enough with me to keep my comment on top for 2 months.
@trj1370 Well, of course Piers seems not to quite "get it." The guy said he believes in God. Regardless, he's a good interviewer. The guy was the head editor at one of the largest newspapers in London, he did this in England and he replaced Larry fucking King. You don't get that gig by being oblivious.
@tremontirocks Fine, you like Piers Morgan. This is all I've really seen of him, which is why my comment is a question and not a statement. Maybe the rest of his work is excellent, but this example is oblivious and biased.
No. Piers was merely pointing out that Gervais' anti-theist tracts in his stand-up is offensive.
Which they are. I find his secular jokes hilarious, but whenever he gets into religion, I just roll my eyes and find something else to watch until that section's done.
Gervais' jokes always come across more as spite to me and less about being funny, which is a huge turnoff for me when it comes to comedy.
Making jokes for comedy is one thing. To make a point, however...
@SickBritKid Gervais' comedy does not come up at all in this video, unless it was cut off in the beginning. According to the context of this video, Piers is saying that Gervais simply being open about his atheism is offensive. That is an oblivious, biased, and offensive statement.
I'm also not a fan of Gervais' comedy or making religious statements in comedy in general.
@SickBritKid You dont understand the difference between knowledge and intelligence. He may have gone to havard from all his studying and gained knowledge but hes a moron just because you go to a ivy league school doesnt make you shit. Do you know how many great minds never went to a ivy league school LMAO its absurd to think just because you go to a good school you are intelligent. You can train a moron to remember words in a book and pass tests.
You mean those hundreds of videos on Youtube that are doctored and quoted out of context?
I'm basing my opinions on O'Reilly post-2008, where he's shown more respect and decency in facilitating a debate and less partisan douchebaggery and demagoguery.
So I'd suggest you choose your next statements carefully.
@SickBritKid BELIEVE Me they are not out of context. I watch the bill orielly show some times its insane he went to Harvard but he has no idea why the tides come in and out i mean really?
@SickBritKid Bill orielly more intelligent than me? i dont think bill orielly is more intelligent than the average 13 year old he may have a lot of knowledge but he hasnt shown his intelligence yet i mean really outside of his position on politics which i dont really agree with his understanding of the universe and this planet is SO TERRIBLE! lol if you live on planet earth you should know why the tides come in and out.
@SickBritKid one thing? like i said there is a list of things im not going to sit here and list them. IF you are a bill orielly supporter you should know about all the stupid shit he has said and if you dont just take a look around youtube.
I always feel a sense of comfort when I watch Ricky. Beliver a non-believer myself, I sometimes feel like I'm alone. But I plan to change that. I'm going to look into networking with people like myself.
I like how this guy is an atheist that is accepting of all. Most atheists in my experience are rude and arrogant and don't understand the concept of karma. If you attack people no matter what your or their beliefs are ofcourse you are going to be met with hostility.
the definition of karma is- the cosmic principle according to which each person is rewarded or punished in one incarnation according to that person's deeds in the previous incarnation. it seems you are the one that doesnt understand karma. in my personal experience, religious people have a tendency to call atheists ignorant of their beliefs, and that is why they dont believe the same they, the atheist, do not agree with them. but that normally goes both ways
@deolun Karma is the concept of "action" or "deed", understood as that which causes the entire cycle of cause and effect. Reincarnation and Karma are not the same but I can see how you maybe confused.
i've always liked Ricky Gervais. Some people can't handle his personality much less his beliefs. Well, I believe in God. And I admire and thank Ricky for approaching religion and spirituality the way that he does. I love it when he pointed out that he doesn't get offended when people say "thank god". Nor am I offended by his beliefs. One of my best friends is an atheist, she introduces me as "the only Christian I can talk to". We don't let our differences blunt our frienship.
@PremiumNetwork I dont know but whats worse saying you dont know or spending your sundays in a church where the sermon is being yelled by some guy looking for money. LIVE YOUR LIFE!! LET ME LIVE MINE
Believing in a religion is like the lottery people do it. " UST IN CASE"... be a fucking man (or woman) have " FAITH" in your self. Believe that when you do something well or need help in life you yourself can get through it and dont need some invisible dude.
Atheism is a Religion, because you believe, you have faith there is no God without proof. When you die, it is only then you see the truth.
Go back to the definition of faith. Faith is believing in something without proof. Religion is a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith. Therefore Atheism is a religion.
@Angellicationify That's actually a very interesting argument. I am an atheist. I agree that there is a certain element of believing without having ALL of the proof. However, I think that is the main point of atheism. I don't believe in a god because there is overwhelming evidence, to me, to the contrary. To take part in a business venture without knowing if it will pay off requires "faith". However, this is not religion. Atheism, to me, is an educated guess at our humble existence.
@Angellicationify Atheism requires no suspension of disbelief i.e. faith, therefore is not a religion. If anything, it demands proof of the positive claims of supernatural. Until those demands are met with something tangible, they don't believe. That is not religion.
I'm christian I don't mind what other people believe in at all its there choice and their life. Alot of Christians need to stop acting like we live in the dark ages it 2011. and in fact alot of us need to stop having so much hate for gay people or people who are atheist and etc jus cus they are different cus it proves your a hypocrite to believe in a religion that saids that you love everyone but yet alot of Christians hate people different from them and by the way Ricky Gervias is funny anyway
I am a Christian, and if someone tells me he or she does not believe in God, I don't get offended. However, I DO get offended when someone mocks or ridicules my beliefs. They're two completely different things.
Ricky Gervais thanking God is not a swipe at religion, it's a swipe at all the hypocrites who thank God but do nothing. There's something about camels and eyes of needles and rich men and heaven. Jesus did not say "thank me publicly for your award." He said "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." Nobody cares if you thank God or Jesus if you win a Golden Globe or a Grammy or the Super Bowl. Nobody.
@berlygirl123 Why didn't you mention any other religion? Because Christianity is the big boy and the most influential to non-Muslim countries. Btw he did mention that he views all religions as the same and he only mentioned Christianity because... he was born into a Christian family you idiot! That's why some people mock you guys because you say the most retarded things without thinking.
@berlygirl123 Wow. The ignorance in that statement is astounding. "Religious muslims" - which? "would kill him" - so, every religious Muslim is a murderer. Think!
@84CEvans No not every Muslim is a murderer, but I think Salman Rushdie and the cartoonist from Denmark may argue your point. Which "would kill him?" You need to think.
@berlygirl123 SHUT UP U TWAT... muslims are no better or worse than any other religion. You theist are all baboons who believe in mytholigcal crap set forth to rule the masses in a time where organized govt was not established.
@stomperfood I was hoping to "stir the pot" and bring out the worst in people. You, however, have shown your ignorance and disdain for women with your first phrase. How sad for you.
@berlygirl123 twat is not a jab at females .. thats like you saying i take jab at a man for calling him dick ahahha... ALTHOUGH your response doesnt help your point for females.
@PremiumNetwork Atheism is a not guilty vote in a trail, it is the default position and i did not name atheism the people of past did. It is not my fault we have a name for what people are not just like apolitical or amoral. Furthermore wtf does it matter to you what I call myself; just do not say I believe something I never said I did. Seriously stop playing semantics and respond to any of my question.
This is how an atheist is supposed to respond to anybody rather than the man with Bill O Reilly getting so offended and excited. We don't believe in talking snakes, or a man parting waters, frogs raining from the sky, or a god that everybody thanks for a good life but neglects the other side of the world who do not have food, water, or shelter. There is a point of rationality that we all agree upon that a supernatural deity has no evidence of existing besides the argument "It's our faith".
@PremiumNetwork So saying someone is guilty in a court trail with no evidence is rational? Keep rereading because you have yet to gasp my point or answer one of my questions.
@PremiumNetwork Also I feel my position on the existence of god is more rational because there is no evidence put forth to show he exist, so therefore there is not point to believe in him. The burden of proof is on the one making the claim, Period
@PremiumNetwork I am no longer repeating myself on this. If you refuse to read my WHOLE response to u and make no attempt to understand what I am saying, then what is the point in responding to u?
@PremiumNetwork Also doesn’t it seem hypocritical of you to say with should not label when you were labeling Atheism a religion and using an archaic definition that has really no relevance with the people of today who call themselves atheist.
@PremiumNetwork How does giving a word a meaning make it any better than any other word? Also I do not think I am “better” because I do not believe, however I think I have a more rational position on god’s existence than most.
Why do u care if a word has a meaning or not? I just told you what atheism means and u are acting like we don’t need titles and I just think u are dead wrong. For example I say my sister is an RN not tediously explains what an RN is or does.
@PremiumNetwork Wow, DO you read what I write you at all. I am starting to think you are a troll because no one can really be this ignorant of my position or my definitions after reading all I have said.
@PremiumNetwork I asked you a question how is a lack of belief in god a making a claim and your answer…. Really stop arguing for the sake of arguing and accept that THE MOST USED DEFINTION OF ATHEISM MAKES NO CLAIM AT ALL
@PremiumNetwork I know it can be very confusing. Different atheists and theists have different definitions of what an atheist is. Agnostic is meant to mean that the individual holds the position that God is unknowable. Most people who identify themselves as agnostic would fit the weaker definition of atheism: lack of belief in deities. These agnostics would consider atheists to be people who are sure of God's nonexistence.
@PremiumNetwork Um, you do understand that dictionary are not the best play to go when talking about a certain philosophical position right. Also some dictionaries disagree with your definition and disbelief is not a belief in this sense. Here ill make it real simple for you how is having lack of belief in a god a positive claim?
@PremiumNetwork Also I am done explaining this Agnostic has to do with whether you can know if a god exists, so those that say I am not an atheist because they think it make a claim are misinformed.
Also when something says a non-belief, how the hell is it a belief?
Atheism makes no claim and is therefore not a belief
@PremiumNetwork And what the fuck is that suppose to mean? How about a more common definition like, a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs
@PremiumNetwork Religion is normally defined as a belief in the supernatural and deities. But I think what you mean is that atheists have the belief that God does not exist. This is certainly true of some atheists but others simply don't have a stance on whether he exists or not. They lack a belief which is different from saying they hold the belief of God's non-existence. I hope that clarifies things. You are right in pointing out that Ricky is talking about his personal beliefs.
@PremiumNetwork Atheism does not say whether a god exist or not, I have said this and pointed it out to you already stop saying ATHEISM when referring to Gnostic Atheist. Also can you give me a concise definition of Religion please?
@PremiumNetwork I was responding to your claim that atheism was a religion. Also technically under your definition of belief everything is a belief thus rendering the word meaningless. Also no atheism does not say I belief nor did RG
And if you consider atheism a religion then buddy you probably have an infinite number of religions you “believe” in.
For him to respect other religions rather than attacking them despite not believing in them deserve their respect. I applaud Gervais for that and that other people, Atheist or Believers, should have that same attitude as he is.
@Reaperlastfm I remember an occasion when I was talking with a woman I had met on a plane, and I told her I was an atheist. She gasped and looked at me like I had just confessed to murdering my grandmother.
@PremiumNetwork Why do people say shit like this? Atheism is a lack of belief in a god or gods. So by its very definition it’s not a belief and since there are no beliefs in atheism it cannot be a religion. What you are referring to is agnostic and Gnostic which talk about if we know if a god exists. For example I am an Agnostic Atheist which means I don’t belief AND cannot know you if a god exist. Gnostic atheism make a claim that god does not exist.
@PremiumNetwork You are a simpleton my friend. If you look at the world around you and say that it must have been created you must be insane. Has your god ever answered your prayers, spoken to you, or done anything to show himself? Plus you read a book that makes no sense historically and say it's the "word of god". This word of god contradicts itself hundreds of times and is more violent then GTA in book form. Religion is a sick institution that needs to be stopped in my opinion.
AS an atheist ricky has been my idol for a while now. Living in America is terrible for us atheist and he made my year at the golden globes with that comment. Im sick of the phony people looking up at the sky and thanking " god" ( as if they know that he she it lives in the sky) and an atheist can't talk about his non beliefs and reasons for not believing.
@stomperfood I am an atheist as well, but I feel that everyone is entitled to there opinion. Living in America for me is fantastic because I can believe what I want, unlike many countries

@trj1370
SickBritKid 9 months ago
@SickBritKid Gervais' comedy does not come up at all in this video, unless it was cut off in the beginning. According to the context of this video, Piers is saying that Gervais simply being open about his atheism is offensive. That is an oblivious, biased, and offensive statement.
I'm also not a fan of Gervais' comedy or making religious statements in comedy in general.

@SickBritKid You dont understand the difference between knowledge and intelligence. Do you know how many great minds never went to a ivy league school LMAO its absurd to think just because you go to a good school you are intelligent. You can train a moron to remember words in a book and pass tests.

I'm basing my opinions on O'Reilly post-2008, where he's shown more respect and decency in facilitating a debate and less partisan douchebaggery and demagoguery.
So I'd suggest you choose your next statements carefully.

I like how this guy is an atheist that is accepting of all. Most atheists in my experience are rude and arrogant and don't understand the concept of karma. If you attack people no matter what your or their beliefs are ofcourse you are going to be met with hostility.
markleye1 1 year ago
@markleye1
the definition of karma is- the cosmic principle according to which each person is rewarded or punished in one incarnation according to that person's deeds in the previous incarnation. it seems you are the one that doesnt understand karma. in my personal experience, religious people have a tendency to call atheists ignorant of their beliefs, and that is why they dont believe the same they, the atheist, do not agree with them. but that normally goes both ways
deolun 11 months ago

Angellicationify 1 year ago
@Angellicationify That's actually a very interesting argument. I am an atheist. I agree that there is a certain element of believing without having ALL of the proof. However, I think that is the main point of atheism. I don't believe in a god because there is overwhelming evidence, to me, to the contrary. To take part in a business venture without knowing if it will pay off requires "faith". However, this is not religion. Atheism, to me, is an educated guess at our humble existence.

njnick17 1 year ago
@Angellicationify Atheism requires no suspension of disbelief i.e. faith, therefore is not a religion. If anything, it demands proof of the positive claims of supernatural. Until those demands are met with something tangible, they don't believe. That is not religion.

Nobody.

Seriously stop playing semantics and respond to any of my question.
njnick17 1 year ago
This is how an atheist is supposed to respond to anybody rather than the man with Bill O Reilly getting so offended and excited. We don't believe in talking snakes, or a man parting waters, frogs raining from the sky, or a god that everybody thanks for a good life but neglects the other side of the world who do not have food, water, or shelter. There is a point of rationality that we all agree upon that a supernatural deity has no evidence of existing besides the argument "It's our faith".
shyndashu 1 year ago
@PremiumNetwork atheism is the rejection of all of the proofs offered for the existence of god or gods. not very difficult to understand.
hobnailrose 1 year ago
@PremiumNetwork So saying someone is guilty in a court trail with no evidence is rational? Keep rereading because you have yet to gasp my point or answer one of my questions.
njnick17 1 year ago
@PremiumNetwork Also I feel my position on the existence of god is more rational because there is no evidence put forth to show he exist, so therefore there is not point to believe in him. The burden of proof is on the one making the claim, Period
njnick17 1 year ago
@PremiumNetwork I am no longer repeating myself on this. If you refuse to read my WHOLE response to u and make no attempt to understand what I am saying, then what is the point in responding to u?
njnick17 1 year ago
@PremiumNetwork If you mean I am skeptical of god’s existence then yes, the same goes for Easter bunny, Zeus, 2012, etc etc
njnick17 1 year ago
@PremiumNetwork Also doesn’t it seem hypocritical of you to say with should not label when you were labeling Atheism a religion and using an archaic definition that has really no relevance with the people of today who call themselves atheist.
njnick17 1 year ago
@PremiumNetwork How does giving a word a meaning make it any better than any other word? Also I do not think I am “better” because I do not believe, however I think I have a more rational position on god’s existence than most.
Why do u care if a word has a meaning or not? I just told you what atheism means and u are acting like we don’t need titles and I just think u are dead wrong. For example I say my sister is an RN not tediously explains what an RN is or does.
njnick17 1 year ago
@PremiumNetwork A lack of belief in a god or gods
njnick17 1 year ago
@PremiumNetwork Wow, DO you read what I write you at all. I am starting to think you are a troll because no one can really be this ignorant of my position or my definitions after reading all I have said.
njnick17 1 year ago
@PremiumNetwork I asked you a question how is a lack of belief in god a making a claim and your answer…. Really stop arguing for the sake of arguing and accept that THE MOST USED DEFINTION OF ATHEISM MAKES NO CLAIM AT ALL
njnick17 1 year ago
@PremiumNetwork I know it can be very confusing. Different atheists and theists have different definitions of what an atheist is. Agnostic is meant to mean that the individual holds the position that God is unknowable. Most people who identify themselves as agnostic would fit the weaker definition of atheism: lack of belief in deities. These agnostics would consider atheists to be people who are sure of God's nonexistence.
scienceman96 1 year ago
@PremiumNetwork So you don’t think words matter? I’m done
njnick17 1 year ago
@PremiumNetwork Um, you do understand that dictionary are not the best play to go when talking about a certain philosophical position right. Also some dictionaries disagree with your definition and disbelief is not a belief in this sense. Here ill make it real simple for you how is having lack of belief in a god a positive claim?
njnick17 1 year ago
@PremiumNetwork Also I am done explaining this Agnostic has to do with whether you can know if a god exists, so those that say I am not an atheist because they think it make a claim are misinformed.
Also when something says a non-belief, how the hell is it a belief?
Atheism makes no claim and is therefore not a belief
njnick17 1 year ago
@PremiumNetwork And what the fuck is that suppose to mean? How about a more common definition like, a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs
njnick17 1 year ago
@PremiumNetwork Religion is normally defined as a belief in the supernatural and deities. But I think what you mean is that atheists have the belief that God does not exist. This is certainly true of some atheists but others simply don't have a stance on whether he exists or not. They lack a belief which is different from saying they hold the belief of God's non-existence. I hope that clarifies things. You are right in pointing out that Ricky is talking about his personal beliefs.
scienceman96 1 year ago
I can't imagine anything more offense than, "You're going to Hell for eternity because you don't believe what I believe."
macarion 1 year ago
@PremiumNetwork Atheism does not say whether a god exist or not, I have said this and pointed it out to you already stop saying ATHEISM when referring to Gnostic Atheist. Also can you give me a concise definition of Religion please?
njnick17 1 year ago
@njnick17 AMEN!!!! ;)
Mams31383 1 year ago
@PremiumNetwork I was responding to your claim that atheism was a religion. Also technically under your definition of belief everything is a belief thus rendering the word meaningless. Also no atheism does not say I belief nor did RG
And if you consider atheism a religion then buddy you probably have an infinite number of religions you “believe” in.

Gnostic atheism make a claim that god does not exist.
njnick17 1 year ago
@PremiumNetwork You are a simpleton my friend. If you look at the world around you and say that it must have been created you must be insane. Has your god ever answered your prayers, spoken to you, or done anything to show himself? Plus you read a book that makes no sense historically and say it's the "word of god". This word of god contradicts itself hundreds of times and is more violent then GTA in book form. Religion is a sick institution that needs to be stopped in my opinion.
