New jobless claims are slowing down, but that is largely seasonal. We were promised not to exceed 8% with Stim I. We are at 10.2%. GM is paying us back with more borrowed money - its a sham A free market not forced to make bad loans to begin with would have prevented the crisis so yes, less regs helps.

Loans were made under threat of government force to people who could not afford them. But for government intervention, the loans would not have been made. Ergo, no crisis. A history book? My history book taught me that FDR was the greatest president to ever hold the office. That is clearly a lie. He reigned over 16 years of death, despair, and poverty and made slaves of a sovereign people.
In ever other recession this country experienced, the recipie for recovery was to let the markets work. Recovery was always just around the corner. FDR prevented recovery for 16 years.
Those books also describe Nazis as bad but lie about what actually was bad.

My revision of history? The data fully support my version of history. GDP grew during the first 7 years of Bush. Dec, 2007 was the 1st quarter of neg growth - 1 yr post Pelosi.
Unemployment was at 4.7% up until around June of 2007 when it began declining. Again, after Pelosi.
And wages were stable or grew during Bush tenure right up to around 2007 time frame.
Please disprove that.

The Dems also increased the minimum wage which put the very people they saught to assist out of work. Bush gave breaks to those who pay the most taxes already. Never got a job from a poor person. Because of tax break, 4.7% unemployment.
Free market means bad players get wiped out. Sarbanes-Oxley was created as a result of Enron. That law also led to the current crisis we're in. Democrats in charge of Congress when that law was written.

For some reason my reply isn't posting so I make this short and see if it posts again. BushCo has fudged the unemployment numbers since keeping tract. They are not the same standards they were under Clinton, e.g. ignores those whose benefits ran out etc. Perhaps I am wrong, however, GDP does not reflect mainstreet. There is no legislation pushed through by dems in 07 that has contributed to this mess due to record republican filibuster. It is all the result of past R deregulation.

He ruined the economy, killed jobs, increased inflation to double digits, interest rates and unemployment too. And he lost to Reagan who turned the economy and the country around for 8+ glorious years. Carter was, next to FDR, one of the absolute worst presidents ever. But you seem to think Obama is the best since him. You're measuring stick is either upside down or broken.

Reagan took a weak defense system and turned it into a powerhouse that caused the fall of comminism in USSR.

I think you are so far removed by the effects of the "free market" and deregulation. I have met guys working at Home Depot now that lost over 500K in retirement money from Enron's takeover of PGE. You can look at stats over 50 years and unemployment is down, debt is down, GDP is up, and gap between rich and poor decreases all during Dem administrations. Look at the trends on Dept of Labor and stats.

Sarbanes-Oxley. In 1992, congress passed law requiring banks to create loans people could not afford. Clinton forced banks to use unemployment benefits as income to qualify buyers. Housing crisis beget unemployment.
