They couldn't make the ending different from the real story of King Arthur, that's why the end was so sad. In the end though, Saber actually was mortally wounded and brought to a secret island called Avalon, where people live forever if we trust the stories of King Arthur. So the end really isn't all that sad because she never actually dies. Also, for all those who say she didn't get a second shot at the selection of the king, ever notice how the characters change their minds a lot?

Actually, it's canon that Saber went to Avalon after the end of Fate/Stay Night (at least of the Fate route), which as you said mean she would leave forever.

based on that reasoning, Shiro from Heaven's Feel would also be there (the one from the normal ending), since he saves the world without relying on "The World", just like Saber (she doesn't really save the world but u know what I mean).

It's easy to feel that way. But you gotta think of it like this. Shirou/Saber was amazing, but that's because Fate/Stay Night was one of the best written works ever made. It seriously set a new standard for how I tell stories. But Fate (the first route) isn't A story, it's part of THE larger story, and it's all done just as well.

IMO, the movie had a major shortcoming just being a "movie" and being limited to just a few hours at most to tell a story that takes many more hours to read. Because of this, a lot of parts were left out. However, it being short, the creators could focus more efforts into the actual animation and visual design, which came out truly AMAZING. Nothing can compare to watching this movie in full BD quality in 1080p.

A lot of things. The biggest problem with it is that they tried to merge elements from all three routes of the Visual Novel together while trying to follow FATE's story path. And they didn't do a good job of it. They cause the overall focus of FATE to become distorted and there are a lot of things that don't get answered. It's not entirely a fault of the merging though, as some things just can't get translated properly into the anime. Kinda why I'm worried about the movie actually.

Supposedly, for a short movie...they kept almost everything from the 2nd path. They also use the true ending and not the good ending.

Of course, they also omitted Illya's flashback with Berserker after the....you know....heart-wrenchingly sad scene...

That scene put Gilgamesh on my "Characters to kill" list, just above Shinji who also made the list of characters I would do horribly unspeakable things to. I laughed when Gilgamesh got sucker-punched in Heaven's Feel.

That was just effed up. I wonder if that scene was left in tact in the movie. I'll be pretty angry if it isn't done well.

About Gilgamesh, you gotta understand something. He's the King of the Kings, Saber is probably the first individual whom oppose him with strength and since he could always get everything he wanted, he just didn't know how to react when Saber opposed him. I won't lie. Gilgamesh is far more interesting than Shinji. But I also hate Gilgamesh a lot more than Shinji. Probably has (partially) something to do with my disdain for Sakura.

But Shinji's interesting in his own fucked up right and it's ridiculously well established in HF that his insane inferiority complex played a pretty big part in his development into the person we know and hate.
