you could go even further and put pistons that pushes you from left to right, but it's going to complicate the redstone circuitery

This elevator works perfect. Nevermind my last post. Be sure to put the repeaters on the right delays and also check if some of the redstone tracks aren't bound to eachother. Best elevator I've found!

Instead of using a lever, use a button. It resets the elevator after you've used it.

I figured out the other thing...but When I do it the sticky piston doesn't pull the piston I realized it's because of the second repeater on the back (the one not touching the sticky piston) but without that the piston doesn't open.

I did this but when you tested it out afterwards the redstone stayed on. I don't know if this is because I'm using it in 1.0 or one of the ones near that or if it's just buggy.

This build works perfectly on 1.1 i just made it to go 52 blocks up, you just need to be very carefull when you make the repeaters delay, 1 wrong repeater can screw the entire system.

I use only 1 tick at the delay repeaters and it's much faster. You get from bedstone to cloud level in 30 seconds!!!

I followed this tutorial step by step over the course of 2 days. The mechanics of the lift work great, but anytime someone stands on it, it pushes them out. I put a stone wall up to prevent this, but now you just get stuck between the pistons and stone and have to mine yourself out of it.

the elevator only works north/south or east/west (cant remember which one) but all you have to do is rotate the entire thing 90 degrees

@1namster could be a timing issue with the repeaters. As far as I know a sticky piston will not pull (or push) a piston when it's extended. You are probably just off by a fraction of a second on the withdrawl. Try turning up the repeaters on the withdrawing part.
