Using a dampener isn't cheating. It's a way to clean things up, So what if he does? It doesn't help him sweep any better,nor does it make his fingers do any sort of magic tricks. All of you who say they're cheating, try one yourselves, you'll kick your own ass once you see the difference.

it is not a damper. it is around the head of a guitar (shoelace) no contact with the strings what so ever...only there for estetic purpose...dampers don't even look nlike that. and yes I agree, using a damper in a studio for instance i nota cheating

@thelycandraven What is the big deal with every body using a dampner or not, the same discussion goes around some people over actually using hammers and pulls over alternate picking, i just dont give a fuck how you do things. as long as it sounds good (with some limits tough, like pre programming a midi track.)

But really. Why would you actually care if you use a dampner, i regularly use it when i start doing sweeps and regular melody work so if i fuck up the crowd doesnt get major squealing.

You will see, that it is around the HEAD of a guitar, not the neck! His left hand technique is great but he needs to learn how to sweep pick as well, unless you want to throw a damper on your guitar during a solo!

A large factor in clean sweeping is your ability to mte the strings as you come off of them, and this guy uses a damper. It's cheating. That's why his tone sounds strange.
