Sean replaced me with that guy ???? lol. I used to play with Sean Malone in the late 1980s in a band called "Multi-Color House". We both sucked back then. I will posting a video soon of Sean and I playing at Jannus Landing around 1987-88. He is going to hate me.... again. lol
It's amazing that these three incredible musicians that I totally look up to still cannot play it as good as rush. You can't appreciate how amazing rush is until you here someone else try to play it.
Wow! Nice job -- too bad for the cameraman, though, huh? Maybe he never heard of Rush or something - I imagine he's done his last video for these guys tho, with his embarrassing tendency to avoid the bassist at almost any cost. Here's a clue for you aspiring camera guys out there - familiarize yourself with what you're recording, so you don't look completely incompetent!
...wow, did he really miss the first 2 bass solos and then the first half of the third? Better get ready to make fries!

@Scatterblak Well the venue they were playing at was a drum festival or something(Hence all the posters with Cymbal brands at the front of the stage.).
To all those who say that Portnoy can't play the drums. I say watch this and prepear to eat your words. Brilliant solo by MP and brilliant cover all round by eveyone esle to.
@LeslieWolf71. Thanks for the info someone esle allready told me who the bass player was. But I thank you for making the effort. In fact I am going to subb you just to say thanks. Keep in touch.
im not talking about the spirit of radio riff, im talking about the duh, duh duuuuuh.... duh duh duuuuuh part after spirit of radio.. its the same note as the main riff of la villa.
This is the best YYZ cover I have ever heard anybody do ever. Gilbert was flawless in his role as The Guitarist. I have never heard anyone but Alex play Alex like Alex. But his execution of the solo was just as slick and slippery as the original recording.
Since they all did such a great job, I'm gonna have to take the lowest of all roads and play the part of the casual no-life, no-talent, pissed-off-at-the-world youtube observer, and insist that this is fake.
@AnubisXII Haha you're the best dude. Don't you hate it when people say that all over youtube? I've been accused of fake videos on many occasions. Just makes me laugh that people are such huge losers that they need to compensate their shitty lives by trying to make someone else feel below them. FOR SHAME!
Wow ignamax, Cignus and the Sea MOnster was a tribute. Of course Portnoy that song is YYZ, because Neil Peart is one of his primary idols in drumming..
I just noticed the RUSH naked guy over top of the Dream Theater Logo on the bass drums. And where on Earth did Mike get that Sigmund T-Shirt? I wouldn't mind having one of those myself.
I don't know about anyone else but there is something about this that just isn't quite right. Gilbert's tone is right and so is the bassists, and Mike's got the drumkit and everything but theres an intensity that just isn't there. Mike is just going through his standard laundry list of licks in his solo and in this situation (where you're trying to be neil to the last detail) his solo just doesn't come close. No one's solo would. I'd rather see Mike really b himself, not a half assed mike + neil
I know who Sean Malone is, and, I already own Cynic's 1st album. I'd qualify his playing as "original", which doesn't necessarily make it great...
His abilities don't make up for his very poor stage presence. There are loads of other bass players that are able to play those 4 Rush songs, with much more enthousiasm. Malone doesn't look like he's having any fun.
you are the coolest person int he world thank you so much for uploading this! you wouldnt happen to have anymore cygnus and the sea monsters stuff would you?

NolikargAven 8 months ago
@NolikargAven It isn't, the Cymbals which Mike uses there, are Paragon, Neil began to use Paragon near the 90's
BBALVE 1 month ago
@BBALVE actually neil helped developing these cymbals, they were made only to neil.and i think he started using them in the 2000's.

@pag619 Sean Malone, ex-bassist of Cynic and Gordian Knot. One of the greatest Bass/Chapman Stick Players imo

it's not playin' the solo that's hard, it's composing the thing...that's where Neil whips Portnoy's ass...

Portnoy did as good a job as anyone other than Neil can do ;) Very nice cover all around.

To berkleedrums: YES !!!
I agree!!! But 1 thing...
After meeting Portnoy at a drum clinic, I quickly found that he was an egomaniac with an attitude that doesn't match his ability.

Portnoy is just another NEIL PEART WANNABE !!!!!!!

Paul is playing an Ibanez model 2630, probably made in about 1978. It's one of the best guitars you can buy (if you can find one).

I thought originally it was an Artcore AS103 but the trem and toggle didn't match. This explains it. Thanks:)
