Awesome video. ! Also, if anyone thinks there's a debate about if this song is about "The Ten Commandments", or the book of Exodus in the Old Testament, consider the line "so let it be written/ so let it be done". That's complete (classic) Yul Brenner as Ramses! I don' t even think there is a Ramses in Exodus...
hey everyone would think that makin´ a song bout the bible its boring but the bible has some pretty bloody trashing storys,i mean...i like to read the bible and i dont even belive in god
They got the name from the movie after Metallica watched it Cliff said Woah its like creeping death it says it on this website called song meanings is tells you everything about the song and how it was made and everything
@Senorize fair enough. Nice hair-splitting there by the way. I might still be right though. I'll guess that the Metallica boys are more likely to have watched the movie rather than read the Bible.
@TexDad1971 I'm pretty sure this was inspired by the book as well. Wasn't "For Whom the Bell Tolls" based off of a book as well? I'm gonna rule this one as a don't judge a book by it's cover scenario. I have a few friends that actually read a LOT that you wouldn't expect. By looking at them you honestly wouldn't be able to tell they can even read. My pointless rant is over, it is almost time for me to clock out. Peace to the potatoes.
@tjthatomtom86 Yeah, "For Whom the Bell Tolls" is book by Hemmingway. And "The Call of Ktulu" is based off a book or a couple of books and/or stories by H. P. Lovecraft. If I'm not mistaken "Where the Wild Things Are" might be based off of a book as well.
@TexDad1971 I'm pretty sure this was inspired by the book as well. Wasn't "For Whom the Bell Tolls" based off of a book as well? By looking at them you honestly wouldn't be able to tell they can even read. My pointless rant is over, it is almost time for me to clock out. Peace to the potatoes.
@TexDad1971 The song was definitely written about the movie. It was cliff burton who actually said "its like creeping death" in regards to the angel of death in the movie. So no the song was about the movie not directly the the book of Exodus. Also the phrase "so let it be written, so let it be done" was never actually said in the bible(at least not my version) so that is more proof the song is based on the movie.
in fact james hetfield was raised in a kinda evangelic family, his mother (of course she was sick) died because the church his family went didnt aproved medical cares
@TexDad1971 That's exactly what happened. Cliff was watching The Ten Commandments and wrote the basic "hook" of the song right there based on the music of the film.
@TexDad1971 Like I mentioned before, yes, that is what happened and it is obvious because "So let it be written, so let it be done" is not in Exodus, but Yul Brenner as Pharaoh said it several times in The Ten Commandments. No doubt about it - the movie inspired the song! So let it be written. So let it be done.
@TexDad1971 you are wrong my friend, james and lars have been quoted talking about how when they READ the story of the exodus they said "whoa, its like creeping death" and now we have an amazing song no matter what its origins are. and I would find it very likely that James has read the bible, He was raised as a christian scientist and has embraced catholicism recently. either way, long live metallica, it is the one thing that binds us lol.
@TexDad1971 No not really, remember James Hetfield (SP) came from a christian background. Also everyone knows the story of Moses. Still a badass vid none the less.
@TexDad1971 Obviously you haven't done your homework. James'mother was deeply religious and I am sure that this affected the young James' upbringing. Do you think that in religious family they watched films instead of reading the book?
It's a little bit of both. Others have said where the title came from, the Angel of Death scene in the movie. They also got the line "So let it be written, so let it be done" from the movie. Other details of the song they got from Exodus, as others have said earlier, James was raised in a strict Christian household and the other guys were raised in some Christian background or exposed to it. "The Four Horsemen" is another Bible song from Revelation, so Metallica did/does read the Bible ;)
@TexDad1971 No way in HELL. James was highly christan and was born to an insanely christian family. I wouldn't be surprised if he hadn't read the story of exodus more then once. Get your Metallica facts right.
@Senorize It's more the movie really than the the Bible. The key phrase "So let it be written, so let it be done" is all movie and not in Exodus. It's a mix of mostly movie.
@Blueduckgorrilla3 thats what I meant. im not a religious person..last time i picked up a bible I was probably 11 years old. thats been almost 20 years.
@Senorize no no no,the band watched the ten commanments, and cliff said it was kinda like "creeping death" for example-darkness three days long is a commanment ment for three days of darkness, they watched this movie.thats how the song came to be
that was such an amazing video!! the only reason i looked up this song was because i was looking on wikipedia about The Ten Commandments and saw that Metallica based a song off the movie. I love the movie so much and I thought this video was amazing. You put the scenes with the words and it made this such a perfect music video!!! and in the song at 3:45 the music sort of sounds like the music in the movie. but great video!!! I love this movie so much!! i have seen it probably 18-19 times!!!!!!!!
@MrAvenged77xx You're fucking criticizing me for reading? Really? That's how low you can go? Because I'm fucking educated and know my facts about things you think that's something to make fun of? Onto your next point, "fuckin lier" First of all neither of those are words. Second, I did not lie. I honestly have read it about 2 or 3 times. I don't have to take anything from someone who's name involves a poser emo band like A7X.
@mrjeebsisback xD I wasn't sure if you did thanks for confirming. Why would I make fun of the bible, and that you read I read to. Second, I called you a lier because nobody I ever met (online or person) has read it more than twice. Last, I can tell your not a real bible studier because you called A7x a poser emo band, in the bible it shows that everyone is created equally. Don't bother replying because im not responding anymore. †RIP† Jesus
@MrAvenged77xx I'm going to reply anyways because I did read the Bible a few times but I DON'T BELIEVE IT. I'M AN ATHEIST. That's why I called A7X an emo poser band because I DON'T BELIEVE IN THE BIBLE'S MORALS (well except don't kill & stuff) I got the last word in I win JAJAJAJ! I'm gonna throw a party because of it!
@urielx17 I very much am enjoying the music but just because I'm responding doesn't make me a homosexual or a Jonas Brothers fan. The biggest insult to a person that you can come up with is that they're gay? You must hate Judas Priest bro, you're missing out.
@stevieray673 I just used Windows Movie Maker. Ripped the DVD to my harddrive and got the MP3 of the song, and picked the scenes in the movie and ran em in WMM over the song and there ya go. Good luck with your idea.
You should also check out "Of wolf and man" with scenes from The Wolfman I just did recently. Gotta go. :-)
amazing video, i have only a small recomendation, do other with the same but including short scenes of metallica in concert, i believe this look incredible
WOW.....much better than the cartoon "Prince of Egypt" which is all my daughter had seen so far! I had NO IDEA that so many metalheads had NO IDEA what this was about .....SAMAEL, THE DESTROYER! .....real WRATH of GOD stuff....... BRAVO TEXDAD! now make MORE Illustrated Metal Classics, and help educate the IDIOT youth of our Great Republic.........
I thought Cliff was the one who said it looked like a creeping death, not Kirk.

@urielx17 I've read the entire Bible about 2 or 3 times. I'm an atheist. Don't question or judge me.

@mrjeebsisback 2 or 3 !!! god damn u like to read *cough fagot* fuckin lier
MrAvenged77xx 1 year ago
@MrAvenged77xx You're fucking criticizing me for reading? Really? That's how low you can go? Because I'm fucking educated and know my facts about things you think that's something to make fun of? Onto your next point, "fuckin lier" First of all neither of those are words. Second, I did not lie. I honestly have read it about 2 or 3 times. I don't have to take anything from someone who's name involves a poser emo band like A7X.
mrjeebsisback 1 year ago
@mrjeebsisback xD I wasn't sure if you did thanks for confirming. Why would I make fun of the bible, and that you read I read to. Second, I called you a lier because nobody I ever met (online or person) has read it more than twice. Last, I can tell your not a real bible studier because you called A7x a poser emo band, in the bible it shows that everyone is created equally. Don't bother replying because im not responding anymore. †RIP† Jesus
MrAvenged77xx 1 year ago
@MrAvenged77xx I'm going to reply anyways because I did read the Bible a few times but I DON'T BELIEVE IT. I'M AN ATHEIST. That's why I called A7X an emo poser band because I DON'T BELIEVE IN THE BIBLE'S MORALS (well except don't kill & stuff) I got the last word in I win JAJAJAJ! I'm gonna throw a party because of it!

@mrjeebsisback
dude just shutup and enjoy the great music or get the fuck out of here, if you reply your gay and you like the jonas brothers
urielx17 1 year ago
@urielx17 I very much am enjoying the music but just because I'm responding doesn't make me a homosexual or a Jonas Brothers fan. The biggest insult to a person that you can come up with is that they're gay? You must hate Judas Priest bro, you're missing out.

@mrjeebsisback
theres no reason to bringing a great band like priest up in this because its you who mentioned it and is sad u said dat.

@mrjeebsisback Since it's pretty difficult to prove that over the internet I suggest you leave that to yourself.

stevieray673 1 year ago
@stevieray673 I just used Windows Movie Maker. Ripped the DVD to my harddrive and got the MP3 of the song, and picked the scenes in the movie and ran em in WMM over the song and there ya go. Good luck with your idea.
You should also check out "Of wolf and man" with scenes from The Wolfman I just did recently. Gotta go. :-)
