Paul's hair is incredible, beautifully conditioned, no split ends, gentle feathering blended into delicate cascading ringlets over his shoulders and the way he wears the carousing tousled half fringe is a testament to his masculinity.

I appreciate Gene's honesty, that he simply doesn't want "real musicians" in the band. Since KISS stand for "KISS is Simmons and Stanley" there was no room for talent that might draw attention away from those 2 egomaniacs.
Vinnie Vincent was a truly great guitar player. Bruce Kulick was a solid rocker, but at the end of the day, just a hired hand, not a real member of KISS.
They haven't written any tunes as catchy as they did with Ace and Peter.
It's too bad, I really think Bob Kulick did great work with them. It's just a show-business reality that a band like Kiss just couldn't have an "out of the closet" bald man in the band. It's OK to have a bad hairpiece (ahem) as long as there are no photos of the exposed head ;(
I remember being traumatized when I learned that the solo from "larger than life" was done by a session player, it's one of my favorite "Ace" solos.
@vfgjhj from what I've read . . . Vinnie never signed a contract making him a full fledged KISS member. And also I think there was an incident after a concert in LA in '84 where Vinnie kept doing his guitar solo even after Paul gave him a cue to stop.
And as for Mark St. John . . . well . . . who knows what might have been had he not gotten arthritis

He had a very long guitar solo and after the show Paul and Vinnie almost got into a fist fight because of it, and another incident was when Vinnie walked out on them during a concert and Gene, Paul, and Eric got really pissed at Vinnie. Especially Gene, and Vinnie said they were holding him back from being what Ace couldn't be (a true rock n roll guitarist) which is totally bullshit because Ace is better than Vinnie period.
Does anyone know why Gene and Paul didn't just put Bruce in the Ace makeup? No one ever discusses that. I'm curious. Was Bruce offered the Ace/makeup/costume gig? That would have been the obvious choice to me.

It is well known that Gene is incredibly difficult to work with. I think Vinnie has serious chops, but his style never seemed (IMO) to be appropriate to Kiss. Bruce is also a monster guitar player, and fit in with Kiss in the 80's/90's far better than Vinnie did.
Paul, you're so full of shit. The only reason you let him go was because ego couldn't take the fact that he's ten times the musician you and Gene will ever ever be. No offense to Bruce you've kept him on because he allows himself to be bullied by your and Gene's insecurities as musicians.
The Kulicks are good people. Bob could have easily succeeded Mark St. John in KISS since he sessioned for them a couple times before, but he looked out for his little brother by giving him a chance instead. Bruce from right here shows the value of humility, and it shows as he grew to be a better player.

I personally like Tommy Thayer, but I never got to see KISS Live with a different guitarist. They all had skill and were talented.I personally though, like the band the way it is right now. Gene Simmons, Eric Singer Paul Stanley, tommy Thayer.
Gene has no musical talent. Gene Hires Vinnie. Gene finds out that Vinnie has more talent in one of his pubes than Gene has in his whole body. Vinnie get's kicked out and replaced by someone Gene is sure he can control. End of story.
Gene and Paul can be the biggest a-hole's sometimes. 1982 thru 1984 was whn they had the best guitarists ever, Vinnie Vincent and Mark St. John. Gene and Paul talk crap about Vinnie and Mark because both guitarists were actual musicians and could outplay them and most musicians. Kiss has become their own tribute band and with the attitude that Gene has, the only thing that future generation will know them for is their merchandise, not their music!
honestly, I think Bruce Kulick was a much better guitarist than Vinnie hands down. He was with the band far longer and we got to see a lot more of his chops. Pretty close to Ace in that regard. Vinnie didnt impress me with his solo efforts, pretty much just high speed wanking.
For the record, I still think that Ace & Peter are talented and deserve more respect than they get. To put this in a better perspective, Gene, Paul, Ace & Peter had, (and still do), disfunctional behavior amongst each other to one extent or another. This band does not seem to have what it takes for the original members to stay together. Just get over it.

For those who are against Eric and Tommy in the makeup, why didn't Ace and Peter claim the rights to their makeup? According to Ace, he considers himself a musican first, and an entertainer second, which by the mid 70s with Kiss blowing up all over the place they were merchandising like crazy, doing a movie, releasing comics with they're blood in the ink, etc, and ace was drinking a lot. By the time Kiss did Dynasty, there just wasn't enough focus on the music for him, he hated doing Dynasty, Unmasked, and The Elder. The Elder was the icing on the cake that made him quit the group.
Prob was that and more. I hate to see a band go totally commercial and work more on image than music. They weren't that way in the beginning. Couldn't be anyway.
naa, not in the beginning. Later on, yes. Kiss did create a monster as far as too much merchandising during the 70s all the way to this day, in the 80s they did take a break from it since the makeup was off. However merchandise sales did help secure their all-time revenue.
that, amid the fact that the running orders for the albums were like 12 songs, 9 of which were paul and gene, 1 ace, 1 peter, and one group tune. but if ya look at it, the best songs (musically, not commercially) were typically the group tune, or aces contributions.
I believe it. However Tommy Thayer did contribute to 3 songs on the Sonic Boom album, but no Eric Singer. "I'm an animal" is pretty close to a group tune with the acception of Eric not writing.
also, Ive yet to hear the new sonic boom in its entirety, however, what i have heard is the best theyve done since revenge. Revenge is pretty close to my fAVORITE all time KISS album.
Gene is on a high horse, hes sober so he looks on vinnie ace and peter as he is better than them. and they choose to leave out the reason why Mark St.John got injured. They worked him like a dog, the CD practically could be a considered Mark St.John as a solo artist with a hired band. They treated him like ass too. I'm so sick and tired of Gene ripping on Ace and Peter for their substance abuse problems. What Gene fails to realize is that he's in a very small minority in rock and roll history. MANY of the greatest R and R musicians abused drugs and alcohol. It didn't stop them from being legends and it's not why Ace and Peter stopped contributing to the band. It was becuause Gene and Paul hijacked artistic control of the band and BROKE THEIR SPIRIT. As a result, they STOPPED CARING.

You have to also understand that Ace & Peter also contributed to their dismissal because of the substance abuse which began to hurt the band. They ruined it for themselves by acting stupid and not being more responsible. There is a show from Dynasty where Peter fucked up Beth and another show where he stopped playing and walked off the stage. You DON'T do that shit regardless of the problems with your band mates..

It is well known that Gene is incredibly difficult to work with. I think Vinnie has serious chops, but his style never seemed (IMO) to be appropriate to Kiss. Bruce is also a monster guitar player, and fit in with Kiss in the 80's/90's far better than Vinnie did.

The Kulicks are good people. Bob could have easily succeeded Mark St. John in KISS since he sessioned for them a couple times before, but he looked out for his little brother by giving him a chance instead. Bruce from right here shows the value of humility, and it shows as he grew to be a better player.

I personally like Tommy Thayer, but I never got to see KISS Live with a different guitarist. They all had skill and were talented.I personally though, like the band the way it is right now. Gene Simmons, Eric Singer Paul Stanley, tommy Thayer.

Gene and Paul can be the biggest a-hole's sometimes. 1982 thru 1984 was whn they had the best guitarists ever, Vinnie Vincent and Mark St. John. Gene and Paul talk crap about Vinnie and Mark because both guitarists were actual musicians and could outplay them and most musicians. Kiss has become their own tribute band and with the attitude that Gene has, the only thing that future generation will know them for is their merchandise, not their music!

honestly, I think Bruce Kulick was a much better guitarist than Vinnie hands down. He was with the band far longer and we got to see a lot more of his chops. Pretty close to Ace in that regard. Vinnie didnt impress me with his solo efforts, pretty much just high speed wanking.

For the record, I still think that Ace & Peter are talented and deserve more respect than they get. To put this in a better perspective, Gene, Paul, Ace & Peter had, (and still do), disfunctional behavior amongst each other to one extent or another. This band does not seem to have what it takes for the original members to stay together. Just get over it.

For those who are against Eric and Tommy in the makeup, why didn't Ace and Peter claim the rights to their makeup? Ace and Peter were stupid not to get the right legal advice to THEIR make up designs since they were too fucked up to make it happen. It their OWN DAMN FAULT for why Eric and Tommy wear THEIR designs. I don't have any sympathy for either of them in this case.

According to Ace, he considers himself a musican first, and an entertainer second, which by the mid 70s with Kiss blowing up all over the place they were merchandising like crazy, doing a movie, releasing comics with they're blood in the ink, etc, and ace was drinking a lot. By the time Kiss did Dynasty, there just wasn't enough focus on the music for him, he hated doing Dynasty, Unmasked, and The Elder. The Elder was the icing on the cake that made him quit the group.

naa, not in the beginning. Later on, yes. Kiss did create a monster as far as too much merchandising during the 70s all the way to this day, in the 80s they did take a break from it since the makeup was off. However merchandise sales did help secure their all-time revenue.

that, amid the fact that the running orders for the albums were like 12 songs, 9 of which were paul and gene, 1 ace, 1 peter, and one group tune. but if ya look at it, the best songs (musically, not commercially) were typically the group tune, or aces contributions.

I believe it. However Tommy Thayer did contribute to 3 songs on the Sonic Boom album, but no Eric Singer. "I'm an animal" is pretty close to a group tune with the acception of Eric not writing.

They worked him like a dog, the CD practically could be a considered Mark St.John as a solo artist with a hired band. They treated him like ass too. I'm so sick and tired of Gene ripping on Ace and Peter for their substance abuse problems. What Gene fails to realize is that he's in a very small minority in rock and roll history. MANY of the greatest R and R musicians abused drugs and alcohol. It didn't stop them from being legends and it's not why Ace and Peter stopped contributing to the band. It was becuause Gene and Paul hijacked artistic control of the band and BROKE THEIR SPIRIT. As a result, they STOPPED CARING.

You have to also understand that Ace & Peter also contributed to their dismissal because of the substance abuse which began to hurt the band. They ruined it for themselves by acting stupid and not being more responsible. There is a show from Dynasty where Peter fucked up Beth and another show where he stopped playing and walked off the stage. You DON'T do that shit regardless of the problems with your band mates..
