X5= All wheel drive, its not a true 4x4 like land cruiser or jeep or range rover. if the terrain was really rough the x5 would get stufk and the one wheel that is spinning would get the power and the other 3 would just be still. locking diff = all wheels get power and pull suv out. bmw is nice but not true 4x4.
actually ... as you can see in the video ... for the amount of offroading it can do ... it dosent need an lockin diff .. since the x drive sends power the the wheels that are on the ground.... the wheel that is in the air is only spinning because its looking for traction.
they seem to be coping very well with the terrain,shame top gear give it a toss review.but not bad alot of people are expecting a landrover handling on this the bmw x3 is mostly for country parks that sort of stuff .did you have many brake downs.i am in two minds to buy an x3.

been to Sharm El Sheikh great holiday i went quad biking next time i will try the X3, who and where do you go. the X drive works great.
