Yes the FMTV Wrecker is a very well built truck, with strong performance but I can honestly say after operating all the wrecker, the 5ton Wrecker, the FMTV, and the HEMTT that the HEMTT is by far my favorite not to mention that was my truck for a year in Iraq so I got a bit of a soft spot for it lol
The intake is that black box at the top left behind the cab and the engine fan is equipped with a cut off switch to avoid damage. You can hit the water whichever way you choose but I agree, it's benefits are negligible as the resistance of the water will pretty much slow the truck to a slow entry speed anyways.

@TCFan25 - because both the intake and exhaust are above the cab on an FMTV. it's pretty much like a built in snorkel
