Atheism UK: a New voice for Atheists in England

It's funny to see these 'new atheists' finding god again, 'cos the first time was too traumatic. That's why they project their hateful speech to people of faith. Now they have nothing to sell, and Sam Harris can say: "You don't know what is REALLY believe in afterlife, paradise" to a christian audience and don't humiliate himself.

As if anyone is going to want to abandon a faith that offers them hope, comfort and a sound moral code (not to mention beautiful buildings, music, art and poetry) and replace it with this drab waffle. It's like being at a conference for parking attendents. Where is the poetry? the celebration? the passion? Atheism is essentially negative in character so it can't provide these things.

This group should be called Anti-Theism UK, not AtheismUK. Atheism is generally understood as simply a "lack of belief in God" and thus includes all non-believers. However, many atheists do not support Richard Green's aggressive anti-religion approach and hence it is not appropriate for him to use the term "atheism". He definitely does not represent all atheists.

Can anyone explain why this guy is condescending to an Irish audience? Starting with denigrating the "infamous" Irish constitution. If that chap had looked a little harder he may have found the reasons for the need to declare what he calls a theocracy. The Penal Laws seem to have evaded his attention.

The UK has no sectarian strife, no paedophilia and is a bastion of Humanitarian goodness except for the North of Ireland. Well that is good news.

@nilbud Maybe if Irish Roman Catholics had converted to Protestantism during the days of the Penal Laws, they'd have been better off. They wouldn't believe in a religion that says a piece of wafer is literally the flesh of a 2,000 year old god. And maybe we wouldn't have ended up with a country were divorce, contraception and homosexuality were all outlawed, and priests didn't rape and beat thousands of children.

Care to explain how Atheism, or the absence of theism, is a cult? Are cults not religions with a belief structure outside of the norm? A cult is a new religious movement, a cult member is more or less held captive, one doesn't freely leave a cult, though expulsion is an option. Typically they're hierarchical and tend to be either extremely totalitarian or utopian. I can't find any weight in your statement where Atheism "has become a cult", but please do enlighten us..

Good to see the UK and Ireland unite in their denunciation of these wicked cults. The Roman Catholic Church did more damage to Ireland than 'the Brits' ever did. Were it not for the Catholic Church, would there have been partition? After all, the reason Ulster Protestants did not want a Home Rule Government was because "Home Rule Means Rome Rule". Looking at the theocracy that emerged - outlawing contraception till the 1980s, and homosexuality and divorce till the 1990s(!) - it does add up.
