You need to have at least one star rank in ALL (including mirror) GPs, if you have at least 2 stars you will have a 2 stars rank, the same for 3 stars

That mini-turbo you did after you got hit with the blue shell was an ingenious idea. I've got to try that. Blue shells are a real pain for me since I use a heavy character, so the acceleration isn't that good. Thanks for the video!

i did this like u (timing wise) infact on the first one i got 5 seconds ahead, and on the rainbow road i got 30 seconds ahead, but i got only 2 stars.

is it because i was hit of the track and became fifth?

It's just a regular mini-turbo from standstill. You hold down both acceleration and brake/drift, then let go of the brake/drift once the blue flame shows up. This even works on automatic.
