@RADIZZLE4000 They sound nice, it lets you know when a train is coming and going! The MBTA wants to get new cars to replace the 01500/01600, and maybe the 01700s in 2015+, they will probably have the same truck sounds.
@ck4049 The 01500s/01600s/1700s are good, it's just that when you try to compare an unamusing 41-year old car (not the 01700s, UTDC made then in '87-'89) to a 17-year old car that chneged the way we ride the T, there's no comparison! But to be fair, the 01500s/01600s looked really awesome back when they were mostly unpainted before 1985 (especially compared to the 01400s!) !
@s7o0a0p The 01700s were delivered in the red and white paint, and the 01500s used to be double-ended until the MBTA ruined them in 1986. I still miss the 01400s! I think its about time to start pulling the Pullmans from service and send them to railroad and trolley museums! There is also talk about removing the 01700s from service, if the MBTA gets the obtion to purchase an additional 60 cars when the order goes to the builder in about five years.
@ck4049 If I could go back to the late '70s and ride the silver 01500s/01600s, it would be amazing! The old cars can be cool in their own way, like the PCCs on the Mattapan High-Speed Line part of the Red Line. They're from around the mid-'40s but they are always still great to ride!
@sieman700 Exactly! According to my opinions, the 01800s are the best rapid transit vehicles in history! Not only were they true innovators on the T, but that beautiful AC power conversion sound that they make along with those simple automated stop announcers make me remember why I adore the Red Line the most!
My uncle managed the tunnel construction from Harvard to Alewife.
