  • I can just feel the tension between the band members when they play this.

  • R.I.P. Mike Star!!!!

most underrated bass player of ALL TIME

  • @pantyhosenightmare Mike Starr is Not in this Video.

  • @ThEmB0nEz fuck mike I can play the bass better than him, everyday all day long, ask jerry>

  • @spanky2964 Ok Let Me Get Jerry on Speed Dial on My phone (SMH). What Mike are you talking about ? You can't play better then ethier of them and no one had to tell me that.

  • The best unplugged!!!! ever made!!! its epic

  • GOTTA admire that compared to nirvana, these guys did more originals on their unplugged - all were originals weren't they?

  • @Liquidskeleton most of them yes

  • @Liquidskeleton yes all were originals

  • its like all the great musicians in my generations are dying.

  • kurt danielson said he layne was totally disconnected from the crack he smoked. The crack is really what leaves lasting impressions on your brain.

  • @nikesb2406 fuck crack fuck meth and fuck heroin, you do know the first two can thank the drug war for even being around, yep if drugs had been legal you wouldn't have had people cookin that shit up, its just like the poisonous bath tub gin of prohibition. The drug war created an artificial need for stronger, easier to manufacture and distribute products, that end up being more dangerous that their "natural" forbearers. If we'd left them in their plant form we'd be alright heroin too

  • @cblazer Portugal legalized all drugs. They have a lower percentage of drug use in their country. And btw Crack wasn't made until the 1980s and Meth wasn't that big until the 90s. What started the drug war was Cocaine and Heroine. Know your facts before you rabble on.

  • This will always be a favorite song of mine <3

  • This performance never fails to give me goosebumps and send chills down my spine. The pain on Layne's face and in his voice is so heartbreaking. I'm really glad that Layne's spirit and memory is kept alive through Alice In Chains music. There probably isn't a day that goes by where I don't listen to AIC.

  • Layne was the 'lyriscist' jerry the 'muscian' like any song writing partnersship, jagger and richards, lennon and mcartney etc. Both equally important when they're

    working on a song together

  • 240p we'll meet again.....

  • +1 Mr Staley, rest your soul.

  • Layne is a genius.

  • Eerie song. I can feel my ears pulling me towards the speakers...

  • Layne looks so frail, but still sings like lark! Even 10 years later I am dumb founded that there was no way to save him from himself.......

  • @darknes7800 some people can't be saved

  • ***FN ROLLIN**

  • the reason this song is called frogs is because of a place that they went to record and didnt get anything accomplished but there were frogs outside which is what you can hear in the background of the studio version

  • @Sociald98 may god bless those frogs.

  • fucking brilliant.

  • Its true that Cantrell wrote most of the lyrics and was the musical engine, but staley was the energy. Think Mcartney/Lennon

  • @estebansabbatasso Well both McCartney and Lennon wrote songs, but yeah Jerry was the musical engine like you said. Layne wrote some lyrics and a couple songs like angry chair, but Jerry was the main songwriter for sure.

  • @SWbro94 Layne wrote more and more lyrics as time passed. towards the end wrote most of them. so not just "some lyrics"... check the credits carefully. Jerry was the main music writer.

  • @OoopsOhMy Correct. He kept writing more and more lyrics until his death in 2002. And like I said in another comment, Layne is credited for half if not more of Alice In Chains songs, because they took his lyrics and made them into songs even after he died. Layne was a wonderful person with a huge heart and was a very loving, caring sensitive person. He was a mind blowing amazing musician and vocalist. He is a legen in every way and he will always be a legend for the rest of time. R.I.P Layne

  • @SWbro94 Jerry was the main songwrite while they were a band. Layne had wrote some songs though. But if you do a lil research and learn more about the band you will know Layne is credited for half if not more of Alice In Chains songs as of now. After AIC broke up he kept writing lyrics and songs until his death in 2002. Wich became AIC songs after they reformed. At this point in time Jerry did write most of the songs but also with Laynes helps.

  • he and mike live in my heart<3

  • why did he have to go, oooooh...

    I will always remem' oooooh...

wish that he was stil here, oooooh...

this song is too damn cooooooolllll...

why did it have to end this way?

  • just to clear things up most of the lyrics on their final album were written by layne

  • Comment removed

  • Is it even possible to feel so serene and depressed at the same time?

  • @ZeldaFoxEars That's exactly how I feel

  • EVERY BODY GATHER OUTSIDE HIS OLD APT ON APRIL 5th in SEATTLE...good shit for the frogs scathered then gathered.

    b.

  • One of the best albums ever made....this unplugged version....listen start to finish and then repeat

  • I actually like the unplugged versions of all the songs moreso than the album versions...

  • wow this is so beautiful and depressing at once.. i just love it

  • Layne wrote most of the tripod lyrics

  • just the most trippy unbelievable song. That bass in the beginning blows my mind. And then theres the vocals of course. Art

  • On the album I didnt really like the voice effect he used but this version is so much better .

  • Never gonna fuck with me again...

  • always loved this band and yes it is a shame he passed..at least he left this beautiful music to remember him there will never be a band quite like this..miss you layne as im sure your mother does even more than we can comprehend bless you all my love and fond memories thank you

  • always loved this band and yes it is a shame he passed..at least he left this beautiful music to remember him there will never be a band quite like this

  • Check it out I got a top comment :D AIC RULES

  • I am so thankful that they did this amazing Unplugged set. I wish Layne was still around

  • I wish i could have met layne. Mabey in the next life

  • lyrically and sonically this is the heaviest song I've ever heard.I admire the fact that Layne bared his soul and his darkest thoughts and feelings in front of everyone. This is quite an intense performance and one can actually notice they all got a little numb after that

  • @gerronema Layne didnt write this song ... Cantrell, Inez, Kinney wrote this ...

  • @ifirley well, he wrote the lyrics

  • @ifirley Cantrell, Inez and Kinney wrote the music, Layne wrote the lyrics.

  • @Buckyfanatic actually Cantrell did most of the writing. But Layne did aswell.

  • @ifirley your right I dont know why ppl dont just look it up. Cantrell did most of the writing altogether

  • im not sure why i love this song so much... i guess its the pure creepyness mixed with good song writing, these guys are amazing

  • Billy you are the best

  • Holy shit this song is unbelieveable iwill never forget when i watched this or listened its just........ holy freakin shit!

  • Darkest song ever..i love it

  • You never gonna fuck with me again ... EPIC

  • soo fucking awesome there are absolutely no words to describe it:D!!!!!

  • This song is so much better un-plugged. That bass riff (originally a guitar riff) sounds so much more haunting. Scratch that, the whole thing is just a lot more haunting in this version.

    ~ John

  • laine staley sua voz é do caralho uma pena voce ter partido sou seu fã aonde que voce estiver esteja em paz.. Brazil

  • i miss you guys love.

  • Amazing song, amazing moment

  • it was so sad to see Layne like this.... So much talent.

  • dang this shit just hits you in the soul

  • This song gives me the chills... Layne was in good form... Wow...

  • all including but you..alone

    epic.

  • i think i cried

  • @Moment0Clarity actually the lyrics are layne's...he wrote over half of the lyrics to this album

  • @ouroborus91 huh I believe it was about a break up with a girl, Jerry's girl. But half the shit the right is false. Interesting name you have there, I have seen it so many time before.

  • This song would be a good song if someone else sung it. But Laynes voice makes this song so special. This is so beautiful. So Dark, but oh so beautiful.

  • 2 people are...oh wait, I'm not some guy that rants on who likes something or not.

  • all his songs read like a disturbingly honest diary. Its all there, the hurt, the anger, the regret, and of course the daily dependency on junk.

  • @JimB667 Interesting right up to the "dependance on junk" comment. At that point I thought I should point out most their songs including this one were written by Jerry.

  • @Moment0Clarity very true, I was half taking the piss there, my bad

  • @JimB667 could not agree more ;)

  • when i see jerry's almost possesed face when he plays this song i get the chills it's amazingly intense

  • @nirvanaruleforever It's the face of, "man, I wrote the absolute darkest riff ever in rock music. And it doesn't even contain one distorted strummed power chord."

  • @cestoiber117 what do you think ? About what is this song ? Is fucking amazing !!!

  • the atmosphere of this song is so thick I can't see straight. Layne lives in immortality.

  • heroin didn't make this song... it was the fight against it that made the song

  • @tylertheguitardude you hit it RIGHT on the button. I had this epiphany today and realized most hard drugs do NOT help creativity. Its the fight against them that produces some beautiful and haunting melodies. Love this song.

  • @rsohlich1 thank you for sharing, i know what you mean...drugs appears as a doorway in a musical aspect at firsts (my guess is is because of the newness of the experience much like any child) but becomes more after it goes for experimentation to habit.....

  • @rsohlich1Of course it is. I saw an interview of Layne and he said he never wrote high...it was always after it, after it wore off, when he was sober.....because that's where the pain lies. When reality slaps you in the face and makes it so hard to live without the dope...

  • @rsohlich1 i beg to differ they actually do and i've experienced it, especially what Layne was on, it keeps you going for hours and hours on end(in between nods). It lets you throw your voice around with out pain,(although it ends up destroying it in the end ie, Whitney Houston last performances). I could go on about it letting you get out side your ego etc. but everyone knows its about moderation not what Layne did.

In short heroin was the Seattle sounds fuel, like coke to Hollywood

  • this song is fukken amazing i love it lol

  • There is something about Alice in Chains and Layne Staley that makes you believe in a higher state of being.

  • 2:17-2:53 goosebumps every single time

  • @CornadaTV everytim I hear Laynes voice its like I feel his words crawl up my spine.

  • @CornadaTV Same here, such an awesome build up and line.

  • Yea this is my favorite song ever by far. It sucks that Heroin had to be the subject of what made such great lyrics. Been through the wringer myself with it and laynes music gets me through alot of tough times. And it's just point on as to how Im feeling at that particular monment in time 99.9% of the time.

  • hard drugs and depression go hand and hand

  • Nobody that knows about music could possibly say that this band is anything but incredible! It may not be in their genre, but "No One Is Blinder Than He Who WILL NOT SEE!"

  • those dislikes must be fucking beiber fans ........

  • Comment removed

  • you can really see the pain in laynes face in this song. so sad..

    :(

  • doesnt have to do anythin with who's better.....this is all fuckin amazin art and each are the best in their kind , this music will touch your soul , same as kurt's songs

  • this song is so amazing, i hadnt relly listened to it alot until i saw this version, it just chills you man, i cant believe how intense it is

  • @thepublicenemy08 yo check out "sludge factory" by AIC, great song, really shows his full talent in singing!

  • cool bass on this version.

  • 4:33 and on, when the harmonics start, i just love it, i just wanna shut my eyes. amazing song

  • my favorite song ever

it is a task not to start bawling when you hear it his voice just cuts into you best band ever and best vocalist in all time and for the future to come

    rip layne stanley

  • @whappy123 totally agree, he was the best vocalist ever

  • @whappy123 yo ceck out laynes last band he was in, "mad season" the river of deceit was a great song, it almost feels like AIC would make it to, the two bands sound alike

  • @FLshade I love Nirvana too but in what way do you feel Cobain was better? For me vocally Layne is far superior to Kurt. Kurt was an amazing songwriter, frontman, and singer but i have to say Layne wins for vocals hands down.

  • @markenhagen

Yes you're right , but Kurt had an unmistakable color of his voice .. His screams , which suddenly transformed into quiet singing .. .. For me Kurt was God of singing .. and Layne was Jesus of singing :)

  • @FLshade Yeah love Kurts screams too. They both made the grunge era historic. And of course Chris Cornell in sound garden. He was so exciting to see live because his highs were insane with the raspy sound to go with it. I saw alice in chains once in the early 90's at the aragon in chicago, I saw soundgarden at summerfest in milwaukee, unfortunately I have never seen nirvana in concert. I wish i would have went to a show.

  • @markenhagen

Oh, I envy to you .. I never been at Nirvana , Soundgarden or Nirvana concert .. I was just little child, so I could not see them .. There are still bands that is worth seeing but Nirvana , alice in chains .. That's the real music .. Music which have emotions .. Music which is not singing for money, but for fans .. I wish that scientists will make Time Machine :))

  • @FLshade At least you where born... Im 15 so Kurt was dead when I was born. And I didnt even now when Layne died. I cant understand that some peice of shit music (Justin Beaver, Miley Cyrus, Jonas faggots) that cant even sing without a computer is considered true artists. No fucking popstar today would be able to do that high pitch Laynes voice does in this song... The world needs another grungewave!

  • @N7Crazy I am 25, spent a year listening to Alice in Chains, this particular set for a few months regularly. I have memorized every word, practiced every pitch and vocal change Layne makes (even understand the double tracks he makes in his studio albums) and I've learned to sound nearly identical to him.

The only thing I couldn't do is write my own words in his style.

I find it funny that I have more vocal talent than some 15 year old kid who's making millions from being a media puppet.

  • @Yukyo8670 Personally, I have the opinion that nobody can match Layne´s vocals, but I could be wrong. Anyway, it´s isnt really a suprise that you have more vocal ability, than Beiber, because without a computer to improve (if you can call it that) his voice, he is nothing. Just like what you wrote, a media puppet, that has no other purpose than to make money.

btw, if you can do this song, I would like to see it! You allready have some pretty awsome bass covers man!

  • @N7Crazy Eh, if you want to get technical Chris Cornell has far more vocal range than Layne but there is just something about Layne's vocals that is so unique and haunting.

  • @FLshade -FUCK YEAH- we should all put our heads together n try n do it-really i cannot go on with the shit they try n call-(music) i wrote two other posts above n it explains alil how i feel- but for now we have to live through the memories, videos, pics, and of course the music. It will ALWAYS BE ALIVE IN YOUR HEART DUDE.head up to us all for keepin it real and alive.love to these gods of music-real music.$ EVER IN MY HEART N SOUL.

  • @whappy123 haha he said layne stanley

  • its 7 am

    on a tuesday in august

    next week

i turn 28 im still young

    it will be me

off the wall i scrape, you

    i love thaT PART

  • I want to cry when i hear layne sing... HE IS the quintessential vocalist!

  • this is one of the 3 best unplugged! (Preal Jam,Nirvana, and Alice in Chains)... its a great show ... a cold, calm, true and melodic song... acoustic stuff i like it!!!
