@spanky2964 Ok Let Me Get Jerry on Speed Dial on My phone (SMH). What Mike are you talking about ? You can't play better then ethier of them and no one had to tell me that.
@nikesb2406 fuck crack fuck meth and fuck heroin, you do know the first two can thank the drug war for even being around, yep if drugs had been legal you wouldn't have had people cookin that shit up, its just like the poisonous bath tub gin of prohibition. The drug war created an artificial need for stronger, easier to manufacture and distribute products, that end up being more dangerous that their "natural" forbearers. This performance never fails to give me goosebumps and send chills down my spine. The pain on Layne's face and in his voice is so heartbreaking. I'm really glad that Layne's spirit and memory is kept alive through Alice In Chains music. There probably isn't a day that goes by where I don't listen to AIC.
Layne was the 'lyriscist' jerry the 'muscian' like any song writing partnersship, jagger and richards, lennon and mcartney etc. Both equally important when they're
the reason this song is called frogs is because of a place that they went to record and didnt get anything accomplished but there were frogs outside which is what you can hear in the background of the studio version
@estebansabbatasso Well both McCartney and Lennon wrote songs, but yeah Jerry was the musical engine like you said. Layne wrote some lyrics and a couple songs like angry chair, but Jerry was the main songwriter for sure.
@SWbro94 Layne wrote more and more lyrics as time passed. towards the end wrote most of them. so not just "some lyrics"... check the credits carefully. Jerry was the main music writer.
@OoopsOhMy Correct. He kept writing more and more lyrics until his death in 2002. And like I said in another comment, Layne is credited for half if not more of Alice In Chains songs, because they took his lyrics and made them into songs even after he died. Layne was a wonderful person with a huge heart and was a very loving, caring sensitive person. He was a mind blowing amazing musician and vocalist. He is a legen in every way and he will always be a legend for the rest of time. R.I.P Layne
@SWbro94 Jerry was the main songwrite while they were a band. Layne had wrote some songs though. But if you do a lil research and learn more about the band you will know Layne is credited for half if not more of Alice In Chains songs as of now. After AIC broke up he kept writing lyrics and songs until his death in 2002. Wich became AIC songs after they reformed. At this point in time Jerry did write most of the songs but also with Laynes helps.
always loved this band and yes it is a shame he passed..at least he left this beautiful music to remember him there will never be a band quite like this..miss you layne as im sure your mother does even more than we can comprehend bless you all my love and fond memories thank you
always loved this band and yes it is a shame he passed..at least he left this beautiful music to remember him there will never be a band quite like this
lyrically and sonically this is the heaviest song I've ever heard.I admire the fact that Layne bared his soul and his darkest thoughts and feelings in front of everyone. This is quite an intense performance and one can actually notice they all got a little numb after that
This song is so much better un-plugged. That bass riff (originally a guitar riff) sounds so much more haunting. Scratch that, the whole thing is just a lot more haunting in this version.
@ouroborus91 huh I believe it was about a break up with a girl, Jerry's girl. But half the shit the right is false. Interesting name you have there, I have seen it so many time before.
This song would be a good song if someone else sung it. But Laynes voice makes this song so special. This is so beautiful. So Dark, but oh so beautiful.
@JimB667 Interesting right up to the "dependance on junk" comment. At that point I thought I should point out most their songs including this one were written by Jerry.
@nirvanaruleforever It's the face of, "man, I wrote the absolute darkest riff ever in rock music. And it doesn't even contain one distorted strummed power chord."
@tylertheguitardude you hit it RIGHT on the button. I had this epiphany today and realized most hard drugs do NOT help creativity. Its the fight against them that produces some beautiful and haunting melodies. Love this song.
@rsohlich1 thank you for sharing, i know what you mean...drugs appears as a doorway in a musical aspect at firsts (my guess is is because of the newness of the experience much like any child) but becomes more after it goes for experimentation to habit.....
@rsohlich1Of course it is. I saw an interview of Layne and he said he never wrote high...it was always after it, after it wore off, when he was sober.....because that's where the pain lies. When reality slaps you in the face and makes it so hard to live without the dope...
@rsohlich1 i beg to differ they actually do and i've experienced it, especially what Layne was on, it keeps you going for hours and hours on end(in between nods). It lets you throw your voice around with out pain,(although it ends up destroying it in the end ie, Whitney Houston last performances). I could go on about it letting you get out side your ego etc. but everyone knows its about moderation not what Layne did.
In short heroin was the Seattle sounds fuel, like coke to Hollywood
Yea this is my favorite song ever by far. It sucks that Heroin had to be the subject of what made such great lyrics. Been through the wringer myself with it and laynes music gets me through alot of tough times. And it's just point on as to how Im feeling at that particular monment in time 99.9% of the time.

it is a task not to start bawling when you hear it his voice just cuts into you best band ever and best vocalist in all time and for the future to come
@whappy123 yo ceck out laynes last band he was in, "mad season" the river of deceit was a great song, it almost feels like AIC would make it to, the two bands sound alike
@FLshade I love Nirvana too but in what way do you feel Cobain was better? For me vocally Layne is far superior to Kurt. Kurt was an amazing songwriter, frontman, and singer but i have to say Layne wins for vocals hands down.
Yes you're right , but Kurt had an unmistakable color of his voice .. His screams , which suddenly transformed into quiet singing .. .. For me Kurt was God of singing .. and Layne was Jesus of singing :)
@FLshade Yeah love Kurts screams too. They both made the grunge era historic. And of course Chris Cornell in sound garden. He was so exciting to see live because his highs were insane with the raspy sound to go with it. I saw alice in chains once in the early 90's at the aragon in chicago, I saw soundgarden at summerfest in milwaukee, unfortunately I have never seen nirvana in concert. I wish i would have went to a show.
Oh, I envy to you .. I never been at Nirvana , Soundgarden or Nirvana concert .. I was just little child, so I could not see them .. There are still bands that is worth seeing but Nirvana , alice in chains .. That's the real music .. Music which have emotions .. Music which is not singing for money, but for fans .. I wish that scientists will make Time Machine :))
@FLshade At least you where born... Im 15 so Kurt was dead when I was born. And I didnt even now when Layne died. I cant understand that some peice of shit music (Justin Beaver, Miley Cyrus, Jonas faggots) that cant even sing without a computer is considered true artists. No fucking popstar today would be able to do that high pitch Laynes voice does in this song... The world needs another grungewave!
@N7Crazy I am 25, spent a year listening to Alice in Chains, this particular set for a few months regularly. I have memorized every word, practiced every pitch and vocal change Layne makes (even understand the double tracks he makes in his studio albums) and I've learned to sound nearly identical to him.
The only thing I couldn't do is write my own words in his style.
I find it funny that I have more vocal talent than some 15 year old kid who's making millions from being a media puppet.
@Yukyo8670 Personally, I have the opinion that nobody can match Layne´s vocals, but I could be wrong. Anyway, it´s isnt really a suprise that you have more vocal ability, than Beiber, because without a computer to improve (if you can call it that) his voice, he is nothing. Just like what you wrote, a media puppet, that has no other purpose than to make money.
btw, if you can do this song, I would like to see it! You allready have some pretty awsome bass covers man!
@N7Crazy Eh, if you want to get technical Chris Cornell has far more vocal range than Layne but there is just something about Layne's vocals that is so unique and haunting.
@FLshade -FUCK YEAH- we should all put our heads together n try n do it-really i cannot go on with the shit they try n call-(music) i wrote two other posts above n it explains alil how i feel- but for now we have to live through the memories, videos, pics, and of course the music. It will ALWAYS BE ALIVE IN YOUR HEART DUDE.head up to us all for keepin it real and alive.love to these gods of music-real music.$ EVER IN MY HEART N SOUL.
this is one of the 3 best unplugged! (Preal Jam,Nirvana, and Alice in Chains)... its a great show ... a cold, calm, true and melodic song... acoustic stuff i like it!!!
I can just feel the tension between the band members when they play this.
