  • That is one "imaginary" video. =p

  • how much did the amp cost you? does it hum much at all? my rh 200 g2 half stack does, any advice?

  • @griffin78 it did hum, noise gate would be perfect with it. don't own this head anymore. I don't use amplifiers anymore. I use computer/software based progs

  • god i hate dude bro metal

  • whats the difference between the t2 and the v2?

  • @UphillMusic

The T2: Simplified circtuitry; Shared EQ. The amp is fully hybrid (tube preamp, MOSFET solid state/single preamp tube power amp... Its baically a solid state power amp that reacts like a tube one). Its 2 channels with a boost on channel 2. So, if you want a straightfoward metal amp, the T2 is for you.

The V2: More complex; Separate EQs + a footswitchable band EQ. The clean channel is fully solid state, and there are 2 OD channels (cont)

  • @UphillMusic

OD1 is fully solid state with switchable boost. OD2 is hybrid with an Attack and Bright switch. So, if you want more versatility and more to tweak, the V2 is for you.

And the differences between the V2, V2 Ninja, and V2 Archetype is that the V2 Ninja is more "Open" and has more high end and presence. The V2 archetype has more gain and has a tighter low end. The Standard V2 is... standard.

  • @UphillMusic V2 has more knobs and options for tone than the T2 and I think it's more metal aswell, not sure though.

  • which song is played on 2:25????

  • @2chrizful its a RadioHead song I think.. not sure which...

  • Whats the diff. between the V2 and V2 Archetype? is it like a signature model? I couldnt find any difference on the specs...except for the name and blue led.

  • Did i hear The Agony Scene? Made my goddamn day! BTW I plan on picking up the original V2 this week, would you recommend it for a nu-metal?

  • Killer review! Killer head. Don't be a f hater. Everyone loves Marshall but this is a good head for $ you get what you pay fore .

  • i heard randalls get hott

is this tru with this amp?

  • @MennacetoSociety I've already had this on for 5 hours straight (not even on stand by mode) and it wasn't boiling. Of course there is the fan that blows out the hot air from the front but that's it

  • @ChaziChaz89 bitchin

  • that guitar if fucking disgusting

  • nice playing, great sounding amp, i subbed. do you guys play for anybody?

  • @flyboy8492 unfortunately not, we used to be in a band b4 back in mid 2000s... thx for watching. any special requestS?

  • @ChaziChaz89 sevendust-splinter please.

i play a lot myself, mostly bass. ive got a 1987 randall RB-125-115 with a eminence ES15L in place of the jaguar that was blown out. it used to have an 18" in it a while ago.. the only electric i do is a little mahar stratocaster copy and a nice dean markley 10 watt, just for fun. i also play acoustic, and a little mandolin.

i play bass, synth, and mandolin for a small group here called tantrum, with some vocals too..

    Derek.

  • Hi

it's good for tone like parkway drive, killswitch engage or metalcore in general?

  • @catchinfernalcircle for sure man!

  • @ChaziChaz89

palm muting is solid? do you think that i can use it with a harley benton G212 V30?

  • @ChaziChaz89

is it good for death metal?

  • 3:30 break you by lamb of god??

  • great review dude :)

  • That is a sexy amp and seven string

  • Whats with the noise at 3:12 on the overdrive channel?? does this amp really hum THAT bad?

  • wow dude your amazing a guitar well i dont no wether both of u were accasionly playing if so u were both awsome

  • wow dude your amazing a guitar

  • Well, i bought this amp a month ago, and i must say that i am dissapointed.

It's not that the sound is not worth 1200$, it's just that i can achieve a much better sound by using a RH150 and a DBX215. Standalone, the RH150 isn't nearly as good as the V2, but with a 15 band equalizer...

  • Periphery FTW!!!

  • @jerryzkidz99 LOL, I can hella hear it too. At 4:19 he's playing Insomnia for sure.

  • eq feature is nice

  • wow, great clean sound!

  • i like the sound of periphery very much - can i produce their sound with the randall or does it have annother character than the invader?

  • @circleofpit u could man, but it's obviously not gonna simulate it at a 100% like an original ENGL

  • not impressed

  • hey man how much was this amp?

  • @bianchiniman for me, 1200$ + tax in canadian currency

  • @ChaziChaz89 was it Tom Lee? or Long and Mcquade? cuz i know TL said that Randall isnt shipping to canada right now, please tell em where you got it! i want one!

  • @ahvaimusicom Tom?? Long? McQuade? Who are these people!? lol I bought it @ ITALMELODIE in Montreal, Quebec. From the dealer DINO

  • Hey dudes, can you tell me how the Regular V2, the V2 archetype, and the v2 Ninja are different??

I really really like how this sounds, and i'm glad you played some good metal riffs so I could hear how it sounds, because i'm going to get one now thanks to this video.

  • @bigdavid351 I can't go into details but long story short...

V2 ARCHETYPE: More bass, V2 Ninja: More distortion, V2 period: none of the highlights of the archetype nor the ninja

  • @bigdavid351 but I'll also let you know that this head sounds best with passive pickups compared to active pickups like EMGz...

  • @ChaziChaz89 sweet, how much was yours?? I found some around 1250. And yeah, i'm also going to buy Bareknuckle pickups for my Ibanez so it should be hella badass

  • wow there is a lot of out side noise .. the amp in hissing loud..

  • Nice man. I play a COW 6 string in RBP

  • @glock19x300 dude! I've been trying to trade in or at least pay a reasonable difference for my current jackson COWs for a red color.. It's fkn awesome, really like the devil sexy red it display. TOO bad when I bought mines, they only had the camo and black :( awesome guitars though ey? I'm surprised for what I've paid for, it's lasted this long and has awesome tone

  • @ChaziChaz89 Yea I got the last one I could find online from Musiciansfriend, the red looks kinda pinkish is some light cause the blue pearl in the top coat, I like it though. Yea they sound an play badass. I want to find a black one as a back up but cant find it to save my life. I will post a vid up of mine sometime soon

  • Nice threat signal

  • the kerry king marshalls are overpriced, but that said, i'm yet to hear a better ( IMO ) metal/ hardcore tone... apart from the engl customs. they're also pretty badass.

  • kerry king is a lame anyways.

where is your noise gate man??

    amp sounds sweet

  • dude holy shit has any one ever heard of a noise gate

  • @headbagger63 Its not about the noise gate though, its an amp review, they did a good job showing what the amp sounds like just straight plugged in

  • @ebritt91 Dude Would a dam noise gate really change the sound that much (NO) this amp sucks in person Anyway

  • @headbagger63 yeah, it would actually, a noise gate would take some of the sound away, as well as take away definition is some cases, i mean, thats the point of a noise gate, to take away unwanted sound. And this amp does not suck if you know what you are doing, it does however suck if you have no concept of EQ though. But if that's the argument we want to make, almost any amp can sound good with the right EQ and pedals.

  • @ebritt91 Dude Yes you can get a good sound out of this amp but When you put it in the spectrum of all amps out on the market today this amp SUCKS and trust me i know more than most dumb ass out there. The two solid state channels have know warmth two them and tube overdrive channel has two much low mid making it sound boxy. This was with all setting at 12:00 (expect level) and once i did set EQ where i like it still didn't match up to other better tube amps out there

  • @ebritt91 o ya by the way u r 110% wrong on one thing if the amp sounds bad without FX (whatever kind) it will sound bad with FX. OK some fx may improve the sound but by much. In my opinion u r better off getting any kind of tube amp like a Marshall or a Mesa or Randalls MTS amps My new favorites r Black star amps and diamond two great amps companies in my opinion

  • that is a beast of an amp!!!

  • That's quite a BOLD statement, I'd like to see you tell Kerry King that Marshalls aren't built for Metal

  • id like to tell kerry king to suck a dick! lol

marshalls are great for metal, not as fine and perfected for it as a randall but still they make some great crap!

  • Uhm, "better tone" is very relative, so it's hard to use the word "better" in connection with sound. It's about a) what speakers are in the cabinet, b) how heavy it is and c) how good it is sealed.

Marshall cabinets are usually sealed very good and have a medium to heavy weight which alone makes them good for roaring guitar works, you can debate about the speakers for years, everyone has his/her favourites.

  • i don't if it's your settings but i heard the v2 orignal and it sounded really fuzzy then heard yours and sounds way clearer

  • Did I hear Periphery? :) This amp sounds A LOT better than I expected, even with the not so great recording.

  • Comment removed

  • the V2 sounds great. i played this amp at my local guitar dealer with an jackson christain olde wolbers(7string) guitar just like you. it blows my mind off, but i prefer my 6505.

  • I guess it's a different impact with everyone. I have a friend who used to own a 6505+, and when he played my V2 archetype, he was really impressed by it as well. But I will admit, the V2 sounds better with Passive pickups on a guitar vs Active pickups.

  • THis seams like a very directional amp. Like, the amp sounds different depending on wich way you turn your head. My JCM 900 does this (no, i dont use the dist channel for metal, i leave that to a pedal or 2)

  • Uuuhm ... directional amp?

The review is about the head, not the cabinet. It doesn't matter where the head is, because there is no sound coming out of an amplifier head except for the noise of the fan, maybe!

I suppose what you mean is that the sound changes if you're on the left / front / right side of the cabinet. That's true because Marshall cabinets are usually biult to the front with a back wall and shielded sides, but that has nothing to do with the head! ;-)

  • Still, just sayin. Sounds Killer, and an advantage to 'directional amp/cabs' is that you have more tonal options when you mic them for live/recording work.

  • That's true. The sound still comes from your head, but the speakers put it out and in my opinion there is no reason why sound should ever go backwards (?) !

  • IS THIS A FUCEN IPHONE COMMERCIAL?

  • @andrew9843 No... if it were the auto correct function would have fixed your typing.

  • FUCKEN AMAZING Adam weber from Threat Signal uses one of these babies on there new album. Im from Hamilton Ontario Canada man and good friends with "thereevesanator" and i was wondering where to pick-up one of these puppies to replace my Randall RH300

  • ha ha "thereevesanator" that fucker. I love his videos, the man's got some skalllzz. Check it, me I purchased it from ItalMelodie in Montreal, Qc.

But they didn't have it in stock, so they placed the order for me and I got it like a good week after. Just go to any local music store that sells Randall gear. If you notice they don't have this specific model... well as long as they deal with Randall, they should be able to place to order for you in no time.

  • sounds like ur trying to play break u by log

  • its a tube power amp with a tube preamp for clean channel and a solid state preamp for the gain channel

  • that head is rather huge, isn't it?

  • not at all, it's the opposite, the cabinet and marshall head is smaller then usual

  • Nice rig man nice playing as well

  • how is this amp at loud volume. i have no experience with solid state or hybrid amps myself but from what i have read on the internet, solid state have scratchy/harsh/ thin sound when turned up with a band

  • the amp in the video is at 1.5 master volume... it's 400 watts man... it's too much lol. Solid States are nice as a practice amp I find, more for bedroom practice for 1 player only. Not really for band use

  • although it may be a solid state power amp, it has a tubed pre amp, so it still has the compression and response of a tubed amp, with the headroom and tight bass of a solid state.

  • Uh, Alberto!

What's the song called Joe plays at 4:19 ? ;-)

  • Periphery/Bulb - insomnia

  • Cool, thanks! :-)

  • Thanks for review! You inspired me to buy this head in the future. And I love Threat Signal sound. It seems that this Randall sounds rather close to "Under Rerpisal" by that band. Good guitarplaying!

  • any amp sounds good when your drunk. atleast to me they do

  • What's that first song he played called at 2:25?

  • Hmm either I'm on crack or you played a riff by periphery...

  • You're right, Joe played some RIFFS from PERIPHERY.

I forgot to mention that in the video titles.

  • whats with the faggot music?

  • I am curious to know how your fucked up mind works. What is GOOD music to you then?

  • slayer

  • Hey guys!

    here"s sum positive feedback.

Don't move the camera too much.

The original sound changes depending on the height and angle of the camera's mic

and its kinda hard to focus on what's really going on.

I know you're trying to show the settings

so just try not to move it so much.

I think everything was great over all.

This video motivated me to buy that sweet amp!

    keep it up and thanks!

  • isnt this thing kinda loud for bedroom playing????

  • Yes, That's why it's kept on Vol 1.5

  • very good review bro u know ur shit most people dont thanks alot for the review

  • Sounds like arse!

    Mud buckets!

  • thats because the volume is low... with tube amps, the louder the volume, the better the tone, unlike solid state amps which sound the same at every volume level

  • I KNOW that. Thats the test of a GOOD valve amp if it sounds decent AT low volumes.

An attenuator is a GOOD investment then.

  • this is very true i guess :P

  • Its SO true!

  • Wrong.

A lot of high wattage solid-state amps sound better when they are turned loud, but not too loud. High wattage SS sounds like shit on low volumes.

  • no... the tone on solid states stay the same...

it may sound different because of the high volume but thats because with solid states, you arent getting a natural sounding sound. your ears hear it as a more distorted sound. trust me.. i know what im saying

  • Nope, you don't know what your saying.

When you push a solid state amp too hard, you WILL get some distortion from the amp, although, instead of it being pretty sounding distortion, from the power tubes breaking up, you get an abrasive nasty sounding distortion from the transistor's breaking up.

With SS, you want at LEAST 100W for gigging purposes, not that you'll use all 100W (You won't) but you want that headroom before the amp starts to naturally break up.

  • alright thats pretty much what i said but you included why the sound isnt natural. thanks for being a dick.

  • Not really, because it's not your ears making the amp sound distorted, it's the transistors breaking up.

The tone does NOT stay the same throughout the volume of the head.

  • This is not a straight SS amp... it is a tube hybrid, so yes, it DOES sound a litle different when it's cranked up. YOu may know what you're saying, but I actually OWN one, and gig with it on a regular basis. I love the amp, but I will tell you that Randalls customer service (or at least my experience with them) sucks. Had a problem with my cab, and it took two months, and numerous phone calls to get it back from them.

  • Exactly like you said, that was YOUR experience with Randall's Customer Service. I had an immediate response by e-mail, had no problems with them, they answered every question and were very informative (the problem was precisely my Randall Archetype Head).

  • Oh, I had an immediate response from them by email as well... and they picked up the phone every time I called, and had answers to all my questions. All of them EXCEPT why it was taking two months to fix a problem with a speaker cabinet. Come on, a 412 cab is not rocket science. Glad you had a good experience with them. My experience wont put me off of Randall, I still love their amps.

  • probably a noob answered that call :p

  • that's the sound I search for my guitar. Got a Epi Goth Explorer with Duncan Metal Pickups and a Afterburner for boost and I wanted to buy a Randall, and you guys helped me a lot! this baby has exactly the sound I love! thanks guys, great video!

  • fear factory!!! hell yeah!

  • threat signal rule!

  • how much?

  • 1300$ CAD (Canadian Currency tax included)

  • this guy and I think alike...I used to have a Marshall AVT150 half stack but now have a V2 ninja half stack haha I gotta say the V2 is absolutely brutal; it puts the Marshall to shame in my opinion

  • lol I guess we can pretty much say we went through the same gear But ya, for distortion, Randall delivers it. But for cleans...I chose the Marshall, that's the only reason why I still have it.

  • yeah I agree. the AVT had a pretty clean; I would usually put some of the built in chorus on it and it sounded pretty great. I just don't use cleans much anymore so the V2 is pretty much perfect.

  • Is that thing wider than the marshall cab?

I have a marshall 1960BV coming in, and I hope it isn't...I hate when the amp head is wider than the cab...:( I was looking to get one of these. I know it's something insanely minor but i also know that it'l lbother me...

  • I feel you but don't worry, it's a marshall AVT CAB! for a solid state head, my friend, joe, has already tried his 1960 Marshall cab on the randall, it's even, so don't worry, it's my CAB that is SMALL

  • Haha sick, now I just gotta decide between this amp and a DSL100, oh man. Stupid GAS. :(

  • That sounds fucking epic!

  • awesome playing and tone!!!!

  • at first i was going to buy the randall archetype cab, but when I tried it, I realized...not much of a difference. Bigger louder with a little more tone..but that's it..and fkn 10x heavier lol. i like the marshall bcuz it still gives it a warm feel. I dont know...It's how my ears make it feel for now :p

  • next time just give me 2000$ CAD and then I'll make it happen

  • haha joe u fucking rock

  • ark-uh-type

  • whats tht marshall head under the randall

  • Marshall AVT Solid State 150 Watts Head

  • what do you think of the head? i'm considering buying one i heard that darkest hour and born of osiris have started using randalls such as these actually born of osiris just recently sold this amp head on ebay.

  • I love it man, I actually asked Christian Olde Wolbers the same question...Here's the thing man, I love having a warm marshall sound for a more open chord melodic type of stuff and it has that sound (Check my cover for Papa Roach's LifeLine) and it also has the aggressive distortion that I am looking for when I am chugging or palm muting fast. It's all in one type of head. I am very happy with it. Especially for it's price, take it a for a spin at your local dealer!

  • nothing like a bit if radiohead

  • Could you tell me the songs he pulled the riff's from at 3-4?

  • actually i meant from 3:10 to 4:50

  • how much did you buy the V2 for?? nice review btw

  • nice, lamb of god! haha

  • Imma go see em this friday live @ MONTREAL!

  • thats awesome! i just saw them this monday in winnipeg....FUCKING INTENSE! i also just got in the Randall V2 Ninja...the sound is amazing

  • Thought the same, hehe

  • too bad amott doesn't actually play these live. He plays the mts modular heads.

  • but thise one is dino cezares' and what you think about carvin x100b or something like that is it good for metal ?

  • Dino Cazarez? Get the fuck outta here. It's Christian Olde Weber's.

  • It's true...I really don't get Amott..has his own signature head..yet he barely promotes it....at least to have it front of his randall cabs when he plays live.

  • its up 2 randall 2 promote it which they probably should cos its a pretty sick amp

  • Wats the difference between this and the V2 standard?

  • i think the krankenstein+ sounds better.

  • How long have u guys been playing?

  • I started in 2000, Joe started I think..2 years later? A lot more talented then I am, that's only because I chose to be a Rhythm guitarist and he chose Lead. Nice question

  • Isn't this the amp that the Michael Amott Ninja V2 was modeled after.

  • Ya MIchael Amott also has a signature model of the V2 Randall Head. There are 2 artists that have their models based on the V2 Head.

  • Does this thing have a sound gate?

  • Nope, sorry

  • why did you bought v2 insted of t2?

  • bcuz...it's an artist series, and the t2 is limited. I swear I love playing around with the EQ on my Archetype, it's a big plus on this amp to achieve any sound I want

  • egnater tourmaster 4100 to be specific

  • My advice is to take your guitar to a store and try both and see which one you like best for what you want to do.

Remember the 4100 combo weighs 92 lbs. The head is about 65 lbs. It's a good amp. So is this.

  • would you prefer an egnater over this?

  • This amp sucks.. It has very little hint of tube tone and sound much more Solid state then it claims to be.. Very few artists actually use this amp. Randall switched to the MTS modules since they figured out that their ownly good at copying other amps tube tone

  • I have a MTS, and I hate to break it to you but there is not a single original amp circuit on the market today. Arch Enemy used the Ninja on "Rise of the Tyrant". The sound on this demo is limited by the camera mic. Good SS amp.

People complain about solid state stuff, and BMC on certain models because some company put SS diode clipping in an otherwise all-tube circuit, then they go and put a solid state overdrive pedal in front of their amp. Go figure. It's about getting the sound, right?

  • Solid state doesnt sound like a tube amp period.. SS may have as much distortion but, lacks the warmth and dimensions

  • finally someone else who gets it.. haha

  • well said

  • i think its taste matters one guy likes SS amp other likes tube :)

  • "Finally" someone who makes sense

  • I love this video man!! So can I achieve good bottom end with this amp and would you recommend a cab with V30's to match this amp?

  • Haven't tried V30's yet....But I am pretty sure you can achieve the sound that you're looking for..I am using a cheap Marshall AVT cab, yet it makes it sound like a beast.

  • is that a Fear Factory song around 7:50? lol sounds like it, thats dope - man. How much did your rig cost? I want that amp badly - such a mean tone. Damnn.

  • If I remember the title..I think it's called 'Drones" on the Archetype Album. Well The Marshall Cab (500$),Marshall AVT head (500$), and Randall Archetype (1300$). I would suggest you to give the archetype head a try man. You'll be very surprised how many sounds you can get from it. That's the beauty of Randall heads in general, instead of sticking you to 2-3 channels, you have endless possible tone to adjust from. Thx for watching man
