I understand what the ad is meant to do, but the studies that have been done about the effectiveness of scare tactics say it's almost a waste of time. Studies have found that scare tactic ads work on people who are already using safer sex practices, BUT push away people who are not practicing safer sex. So, if you REALLY want to do something to lower the infection rate, this ad does nothing to meet that need. It's a waste of time & money AND it creates more stigma for HIV+ people and gay men.
I'm a gay man, and i had the same reaction to the ad. However I don't think they are trying to be homophobic, they are just try to do a scare tactic to prevent people from having unsafe sex similar to the smoking ad with the guy with the hole in his throat. The problem with the ad is that is that it marginalizes people with HIV whatever the intention.
I am gay. I think you are missing the point. The ad IS directed at homosexuals. We are the group MOST likely to contract HIV. I think this commercial, although a bit graphic, will do its job to ensure that those of us that want to stay clean, will.
Unfortunately, bareback sex can affect your body in several ways besides HIV, and yes, people who actually had conducts a little "kinkier" had several problems with anal cancer, specially if there was an haemorrhoid history on the patient.
This is not about homophobia, this is about saving as many lives as possible or eradicate the disease, and for some reason young guys now don't seem to care about protecting themselves.

I'm gay, and though my manager probably is going to say this is artistic suicide, I wanted to let you know also that for 2 years and a half I worked on a hospice taking care of people who's HIV was either so advance there was no going back, so it was just palliative care, or help people who survived big crisis to go back to society.
This is something I never do, specially as this is my band's YouTube. I just wanted to clarify something as most people seem to not understand the implications of bareback sex.
The truth is always homopobic to the truthophobic gays

I assisted gay kids (21 year old) dying, if this is what you have to show them, I'm all for it.
My most sincere respect.
