Ravenel 2, you could be right. He might not have been able to face going out on the ice again. The loss might have been too great.

I was lucky enough to see her at two pro comps when she skated as a single for a while after Sergei died. I think at first she received high scores out of sentiment, but after a couple tries she made some very nice single routine performances. She is an extraordinary woman. I miss Sergei, but you know, at the time people said if she had died he might not have made it, because she was actually the stronger one.

I didn't know Sergei, but my guess is that if she had died on the ice and he lived, he would have pulled through, but we would have never seen him in ice skates again. Nothing against either one of them, but that's just the sense I have, that her way of dealing with it was to skate and his way might have been to walk away from it forever -- both would have been understandable. I'm so glad she didn't give up skating -- it was so unthinkable at the time, we didn't know what she was going to do...

WEll I certainly don't think he could have gone on the way she did. As tiny and delicate as she appears, and as strong as he seemed, she was definitely the stronger one emotionally. Sergei might well have walked away from skating and just raised Daria away from it had it been Katia that died. I definitely think he would have pulled through, but not made it in the same way she has. I'm very glad as well she did not give up skating...
