  • (this x 10(power)) + rail 180º = mFk Railgun!

  • Gauss gun, railgun, coilgun, essentially identical.

  • this is closer to a guass gun then a rail gun.

  • Attraction, no repelling. I guess that's because of the gravity of the ball coming back down the hill that makes it go back and forth?

  • This is neither a gun nor is it related to a coil-gun. It's a bend rail which operates by techniques similar to a gauss-gun which is totally different.

  • this thing is called "Gaus-Gun", not "Railgun".

  • You disgust me by posting videos in which things are not what you say they are. YOU sir, are a ham sandwich!

  • weres the gun in that its just a rail

  • Fail Gun

  • do this would make guns quite

  • nice work!! i like it =)

  • not a rail gun for 2 reasons 1 doesnt shoot anything and 2 its a magnetic accelerator

  • @zanta24 yeah srry get them mixed up all the time and the title only fux my mind more:/

  • Doesn't look like a rail gun, more like a coil/gauss gun that has guide tracks placed on top.

Difference between a rail gun and a coil/gaus gun:

    - Coil/gauss gun uses a series of magnets (turned on and off in sequence) that pull a projectile to launch it.

    - Rail gun has two rails alongside and in constant contact with the projectile, and an electric flow is passed through the projectile which moves the projectile down the rails.

  • What actually is that?

    It's like a lololol gun.

  • so,,, how does it work then?

  • So mach 8 doesn't seem like much hmmmm?

  • how.....useless.

  • not exactly a rail gun... cool, yes, maybe a proof of concept. more of a maglev demo.

  • this isnt really a rail gun

  • not a rail gun

  • Dude...I hate faked titles or descriptions....I thought it might be a coilgun...at least something is propelled and able to pierce a can...but this is fucking crap.

  • it doesnt look that simple

  • 27 ppl missed "dont like" button

  • Hmm. You can add bells to each end and set it up on a clock

  • 0.o that ball is in perpetual motion

  • @AdelineProductions nononononono, its drawing large amouts of electicity.

  • Actually if this is any gun at all it should be Gauss gun. Rail guns operate differently

  • how the hell is this a gun?

  • So does this work by the coils attracting and repelling the ball, and is the ball magnetic

  • @iwan0t0smith ball is not magnetic, is from pachinko parlor... there is only attraction no repelling :p

  • thats not a rail GUN, it's just the "mecanism" of one.

  • @sup3rt0aster nope, its the mechanism of a coil gun, not rail gun.

  • @zanta24 U got it right, cookies for u.

  • the rows of bolts are more for the two magnetic rail to stay together and not ripe appart, the recoil is handle by the massive heavy gun cause magnets are really heavy and it s firing a tiny projectil.

and most of the force you produce with the massive current you need is lost , it s really low in effficiency , you spend more ressource on containing the wasted power then using it ,.....

  • lol BFC XD FAIL

  • Rail Guns do produce recoil. It is MASSIVE. That's why they need rows upon rows of pre-stressed bolts to hold the shit together.

Stop talking out of your ass.

  • Hey, rail guns shoot lazers. Or atleast they do In skulltag quake3 and a bunch of other games. Game companys need to get more realistic about rail guns. They dont fire lazers and they dont have recoil. They fire a projectile.

  • if it fires a projectile it will have recoil. equal and oposite reaction.

  • @Aev308 of course, one of newtons laws

  • A gunpowder projectile releases one large impulse, though, while a rail gun applies the force over a longer amount of time. The recoil is still there, but much easier to compensate for.

  • I was wondering about the recoil. I read a lot of bogus about how rail guns are so much better than gunpowder weapons because there is no recoil, muzzle flash, or sound. But apparently rail guns have recoil, make noise, and have a muzzle flash. About the only improvement I'm seeing over conventional firearms is that gun fire projectiles at higher speeds. Of course that doesn't really mean much when you need a bank of capacitors to fire the thing.

  • @redmartianresident Yes, the design fires at higher speeds, but that allows it to shoot 10x further while simultaneously eliminating the need for highly-flammable propellents and explosive warheads(to pierce armor). These considerations are important in an environment such as a battleship at sea getting shot at.

There is plenty of recoil, muzzle flash, and sound tho. lol

  • I think that we'll only be seeing rail guns employed on vehicles, vehicles far from the action at that.

  • @bahamut1993 In a rail gun, the force is still expelled all at once. Its just a huge electrical shock. And yes, the recoil is still present. Equal in magnitude to the projectile's force, as per Sir Newton.

  • u play too many video games

  • This is actually an example of the basic principles of a coilgun. There are a series of magnets which switch in as a projectile, or in this case a ball, moves along a barrel, or in this case a couple of wires.

A railgun on the other hand has two rails and no magnets. The projectile sits between the rails completing the circuit, which a massive current is passed through on firing. The repulsive forces between the current carriers forces the projectile out.

    Nice wee experiment here though.

  • you really dont know the meaning of a rail gun XD

  • you are all major fools a rail gun is different to a coil cun as a coil gun works on a gass from a round(some retards call them bullets) a semi auto coil gun works when a round is fired from a bult it is then recocked by the gass from the recoil. a coil gun is a standard assault rifle! a rail gun works with the magnets making a bolt go back and forward firing a round making a wepon recoil less and make a more stable gun for proof the bushmaster cannon uses a rail gun concept to fire

  • blargmaenso rail guns and coils guns are almost the same thing Rail guns have the magnets that project the ammo mounted on rails

Coil guns coils of wire instead of the magnets but they are still mounted on a rail so you should do your research and not be a dick

  • Your name is a harsh but accurate description of you. Although I wouldn't call you "Dumb", you are greatly misinformed. Railguns have no magnets whatsoever. They use pairs of conducting "rails" that are in direct contact with the projectile. A massive voltage is put into one rail, and an equal and opposite voltage into the other. This creates an electromagnetic force upon the projectile, thus launching it out of the "railgun" assembly.

  • Not a railgun, but there are rails.

What you got here's more like a coilgun :)

    Nice though

  • uhhhh oviosly u dont know what a coil gun is i dont even see a coil

  • Coilguns are very different to railguns. The magnets here are permanent magnets, but in an actual coilgun, there would be a coil of wire that would act as an electromagnet to accelerate the projectile down a barrel. Railguns don't use magnets, which is why this is more like a coilgun than a railgun. Instead of being an ass and trying to sound smart, get your facts straight, njkl44.

  • Comment removed

  • Not nearly the same thing, look it up please.

  • I can see why you called it a railgun, seeing as the principle (looks to be) the same.

    Nice job, either way :D

  • magnetic projectile.

  • A railgun is an entirely electrical gun that accelerates a conductive projectile along a pair of metal rails. They use 2 sliding or rolling contacts that permit a large electric current to pass through the projectile. This current interacts with the strong magnetic fields generated by the rails and this accelerates the projectile.

Railguns should not be confused with

Coilguns, which are contactless and use a magnetic field generated by external coils arranged along the barrel to accelerate a

  • @ablinkin112 and thats were you get the mac gun from halo :D

  • you guys are all idiots its not a coil gun or a rail gun. its not a gun! a gun shoots a projectile. this didnt launch anything and is therefore not a gun.

  • This is more like a coilgun than anything, nicely put together though. What's the power drain on this thing?

  • @blargmeansno SAME EXACT THING

  • A railgun is a purely electrical gun that accelerates a conductive projectile along a pair of metal rails using the same principles as the homopolar motor. this is a coil/gauss sort of gun thingy

  • More of a coilgun/gauss gun then a rail gun. YES there is a massive difference.

  • gauss rifle or a wierd coilgun design, but definately not a railgun, unless you mean a (gun with rails;)

  • No, I think it was just proof of concept, not sposed to be a real rail gun

  • tbh i happened to see another device on here made similarly that was labled 'rail gun'. It did not go back and forth just one direction maybe thats the difference? @_@

    hehe

  • how the hell is this a rail gun???

  • when you say in the title "was operating more smoothy before friend nearly destroyed", does that mean your firend was nearly destroyed, or your friend nearly destroyed it?!

  • haha, no one was almost harmed... just bend it and broke some pieces.. all good it was built pretty fragile ^^

  • what's a uln 2803?

  • high voltage, high current darlington array... best if u just google 'uln2803' ^^

  • I can't see quite well. How is the emf produced and sent by the motion here?

  • cool

  • Technically its a gauss rifle. Railguns operate under a different principle.

  • I got an idea! Relabel it as an perpetuum mobile / bedini magnetic gate / SEG and take more footage on it with an multimeter displaying "generated" voltage!

    Wouldn't that be great?

  • wow... That is awesome.

  • pretty much ^^ tho as i mention in comments someone had bent it up a bit trying to show me how to improve it, caused it to occasionally get stuck. :\ Also the coils are being driven at twice the rated voltage so prolly will overheat and melt the hot clue eventually hehe

    Original intention was to make it go up 7 inch incline and then roll down through a loop da loop i'd made then come back around to start but would need much much more power for that u_u;;

  • So it keep's going like that forever ?

    Nice!
