My gf is from China, and is currently studying there. Internet pages on freedom of speech and democracy or even human rights are banned there, i.e. not viewable. The question is valid: how can you have a form of music which in its nature is rebellious when you can't even say anything rebellious?

If they were communists they'd have short hair and probably would be wearing rather uniform clothing...they would not be long haired rockers (seriously look them up).

@flowerdrop1 You obviously haven't heard the good stuff then. I'm fairly new to asian rock/metal, but I've picked up a few mind blowing bands here and there. You should check out Fu Xi for example. Try searching for something from their 'In the Quiet Road' album. Also, Spring & Legend is pretty cool. I think that's actually a project from one of the guys from Tang Dynasty. If you say asians can't play metal, you know too little...

Maybe Tang Dynasty wasn't the best example of a sound unique to the chinese, but there are an insane amount of other bands that do their own thing. So you don't like that kind of music, there's nothing wrong with that, but my point is, saying that "asians just can't play metal" is pretty thoughtless.

@MetalGearNaked It's not simpler or hardere. It's different. I'm still at a basic level, but what I got (for now, at least...) is that syntax and morphology are simpler than in "western" languages. Writing is difficult, but also charming. Well, give it a try, or you'll never know :-)
