Am I the only one that's ever taken an economics class? Obama doesn't have to have that extra 3% tax for these business owners. He can lower the taxes he plans on taxing and the excess money in the economy will spur more job opportunity and more spending. This will replace the tax revenue. That's right proper tax cuts WILL raise tax revenue.
That is the theory behind Reagonomics/ Trickle-Down Economics and it never works. In a fair and honest world, if the millionaires are saved an extra 3% in taxes, they will turn around and immediately put it back into the economy. But this is not a fair world. The rich put the extra money into savings or stock or buy goods manufactured overseas and a good deal of that extra money never makes it into the US economy.

The problem with the flat tax is that it fosters greater income inequality and shrinks the middle class. Poorer people spend more of their income on necessities while the wealthier have more discretionary income to invest. This diminishes opportunity for those who are born or start out with less. There are also some well-documented social and economic problems associated with increasing income inequality. So fairness is subjective, and depends on whose perspective you choose.

I went through college and law school, and I absolutely get more than someone who didn't. This means increased opportunity for me, of course. But you miss the point, this about tax policy. Policies that encourage increasing income inequality tend to polarize classes: growing both the upper class and the lower class, and shrinking the middle class. You also cannot have a flat tax system that works unless you close all the loopholes that allow wealthy earners and businesses to protect assets from being taxed. If someone making $500,000 a year is to pay a flat 10% tax like everyone else, yet his accountant can work the tax laws so that he only winds up paying taxes on $200,000, then the flat tax hasn't worked.

Under McCain's plan the rich will still pay more than everyone else. Obama just gives you "straight talk" in telling you he is going to raise the rate for the income above 250k by 3%. That means that if you make 260k that 10k more is the only part that will be taxed more.Look at the statistics from 06's tax analysis. People who made about 100k in income paid 20% in taxes, where as people who made 400k only paid 22%. Do the math on that and see who comes out better.
Thats a distortion (obviously you are not the A student). It's more like if you earn an A you get five great teachers teaching you algebra, and if you get a C you get no teacher at all, just an old book. Under the McCain plan the A student gets a 6th teacher, and the C student gets to keep his book. The A student didn't ask for anymore teachers, and the C student is falling farther behind. The C student should get one teacher, to increase his odds of improving. No big loss for the A student.

You can get made at him... but the mistake he made was probably confusing revenue and profits. It's actually fairly likely that a small plumbing company could be generating over 250K in revenue, and it is also likely that a company that small could be purchased by someone working as a plumber.

People and businesses who make (after deductions mind you)over $250,000. a year would just be paying 3% more in taxes (for $280,000. that would be $12. more). Regulation keeps American companies from shipping jobs to third world countries .Then turn around and import what should've been produced and taxed here in the first place.Thereby creating jobs that would've fueled the economy and would've also generated tax revenue. With higher fuel prices you had gas price induced inflation which caused every other goods and services to triple in price thats why families could no longer afford their mortgages and loans. Now that demand for oil is down the oil companies have cut production by over 5 million barrels a day in an effort to drive prices back up. When I went to my favorite restaurant last night I gave them some of my wealth and now my net worth has dropped by $100 and theirs has gone up by the same amount. If that were true, then they had at least the last 8 years to create jobs for the rest of us. But the unemployment levels are higher than they were before Bush's policies. He can lower the taxes he plans on taxing and the excess money in the economy will spur more job opportunity and more spending. This will replace the tax revenue. That is the theory behind Reagonomics/ Trickle-Down Economics and it never works. In a fair and honest world, if the millionaires are saved an extra 3% in taxes, they will turn around and immediately put it back into the economy. But this is not a fair world. The rich put the extra money into savings or stock or buy goods manufactured overseas and a good deal of that extra money never makes it into the US economy.

The problem with the flat tax is that it fosters greater income inequality and shrinks the middle class. Poorer people spend more of their income on necessities while the wealthier have more discretionary income to invest. This diminishes opportunity for those who are born or start out with less. There are also some well-documented social and economic problems associated with increasing income inequality. So fairness is subjective, and depends on whose perspective you choose.

I went through college and law school, and I absolutely get more than someone who didn't. This means increased opportunity for me, of course. But you miss the point, this about tax policy. Policies that encourage increasing income inequality tend to polarize classes: growing both the upper class and the lower class, and shrinking the middle class. As I said, those born into the lower class don't have the same opportunities to attend college, etc. MSG me if you want a more detailed argument.

You also cannot have a flat tax system that works unless you close all the loopholes that allow wealthy earners and businesses to protect assets from being taxed. If someone making $500,000 a year is to pay a flat 10% tax like everyone else, yet his accountant can work the tax laws so that he only winds up paying taxes on $200,000, then the flat tax hasn't worked.

Most doctors make an average of 160k to 200k anyways, so their taxes won't increase. Furthermore, do you think it is fair for someone who makes 100k to pay 20% of their income in tax, and a person who makes much more to only pay the same if not less due to loop holes. If someone's making over $250,000 and is in the top 5% of small businesses, they shouldn't complain about not saving MORE money! Money is finite. If they get more, someone else is getting less. Hard work is important, but there's a lot more hard workers that would be benefited under Obama (about 19 times more). If this top 5% really wanted to get around increased taxes, use some of that revenue OVER $250k for workers benefits and compensation. Appreciate THEIR hard work!

Under McCain's plan the rich will still pay more than everyone else. Obama just gives you "straight talk" in telling you he is going to raise the rate for the income above 250k by 3%. That means that if you make 260k that 10k more is the only part that will be taxed more.Look at the statistics from 06's tax analysis. People who made about 100k in income paid 20% in taxes, where as people who made 400k only paid 22%. Do the math on that and see who comes out better.

It's more like if you earn an A you get five great teachers teaching you algebra, and if you get a C you get no teacher at all, just an old book. Under the McCain plan the A student gets a 6th teacher, and the C student gets to keep his book. The A student didn't ask for anymore teachers, and the C student is falling farther behind. The C student should get one teacher, to increase his odds of improving. No big loss for the A student.

You can get made at him... but the mistake he made was probably confusing revenue and profits. It's actually fairly likely that a small plumbing company could be generating over 250K in revenue, and it is also likely that a company that small could be purchased by someone working as a plumber.

Your theory is just garbage. All Obama wants to do is put the taxes back the way they were for the wealthy, before Bush. People and businesses who make (after deductions mind you)over $250,000. a year would just be paying 3% more in taxes (for $280,000. that would be $12. more). The tax breaks for the huge middle class would produce more spending for products, which would then go back to the business owners and everyone is happy.

actually inflation is too much money circulating in the currency, so the more money they print, the value goes down because there is more of it to go around. Now printing is needed to meet the population increase. But, when all your taxes are doing is masking the inflation, that becomes a problem.
