  • My favorite police uniforms were the double breasted long coats with the brass buttons. Can you do a video of the different police uniforms through the years? Thanks!

  • Blaine, theTactical Patrol Force was also specialized unit that kept NYC from burning the 1960's.You need to alittle more research.

  • 2:35 = my car :)

  • Nice fact on the "Copper" and "Cops" term. I think the term "Bronze", or "The Bronze" came from bronze badges as well - just maybe not in the US.

And I remember they change the color from blue theme white stripes to white theme blue stripes after 9/11 not before.

  • @nntthh12 No your wrong. The NYPD in 1996 announced that they were changing the color scheme in 1997 to the white car blue stripes. And if you look at 9/11 videos. You will see that they already have the white car blue stripes.

  • very interesting ;) thx

  • I LOVE AMERICANS!

  • Awesome, really interesting aswell, apart from the spelling...

  • It appears that in 1973 the NYPD changed vehicle color schemes from the green & black to blue & white, ...was there a specific reason for the change? Great vid!

  • you know, if your going to make a video for hundreds of thousands to see...you'd think that you'd be able to use proper grammar

  • @thegreatcb7 not necessarily. especially if he felt that people would still be able to understand and follow along when he completed making the video

  • The 1994 pic they are showing a 91 caprice.. The 94 looked a little different w/ open wheel wells.

  • whats the song called at 2:30 ?

  • Thank you ..very nice. If I may include..It was LT Joe Petrosino who create the NYPD bomb squad in 1901. It was called the" Italian" squad composed mostly of italian NYPD who dealt with The "mano negra" They dealt with Italian Anarchist bombmakers of the time. It was Lt. Petrosino who warned the white house on the assasination attempt on President McKinley. They blew him off. The President was murdered.

  • 2:27 anyone know what car that is?

  • GAH... i knew that thing about the copper buttons >_>.. not that... anyone like... cares or anythign <_<

  • thanks bro!! Awesome.Just keep up the good work.

  • I remember the 1973 Plymouth Fury as shown at 2:24. I can't believe the difference between then and now. I'm starting to feel real old, here. LOL (Resided in NYC 1974-1979)

  • the green lites now i know

  • Anyone know the model of the NYPD car shown for 1985? I'm pretty sure the 1989 car is a Plymouth Grand Fury, but the 1985 car seems to have slipped my mind. Does anyone remember? I believe the same model was used for many years by the New York City Dept. of Traffic, although their cars were painted brown and orange.

  • Interesting video, but you have to correct your typos. Thanks for posting!

  • I always wondered when did they change from blue and white to White and blue.

I wasnt even in school in 1997 :D

  • @itsGerbilsworld It was a budget decision: the NYPD found that slapping their logo on an already white car would be cheaper than paying to have them painted blue and logoed just before delivery. There was a report on this in 1996.

  • @Mhikeal

    Cool, Thanks :D

  • To stanpy, I am really not trying to argue. I try to avoid this site due to the mere fact it has been hijacked by idiots who have no conception of reality. But occasionally i spot a nice little video that seems to pique my interest. I only voice what I believe to be true. I have better thinks to do then argue with fools.

  • @ gta97360 the second song was the theme song for the police show, streets of san francisco, starring karl malden and michael douglas.

in the NYPD the term COP never stood for Constable on Patrol, it has always stood for Copper

First revolvers carried by the NYPD were .32's

Wish I could find a model P660 Siren that works correctly, they have a distinct sound as it is, but when they worked correctly, there was a "damper" in the nose cone that made the siren "echo" as well as "growl"

    Great Vid

  • What's the second song ?

  • 2:25, worst RMP EVER! Plymouth Grand Fury was the best.

  • great

  • oops I forgot I was supporting him. I am from Canada and we really do not encounter many of his ilk. Most of our black community seem ti integrate into the general population and we usually do not deal with his type that much

  • Very good video

  • i loved this vid can you show some pics of the even newer nypd vehicles

  • I thought cop was short for constable on patrol from back in the day??

  • @CGRSpaz650 you right coppers were because of the copper badges but cop is short for constable on patrol

  • @CGRSpaz650 your right cop is short for constable on patrol. Coppers is because of the old copper badges and "50" is because before two way radios they were on cb channel 50.

  • You spelled "Special" wrong

  • learn to spell

  • EXCELLENT

  • I see the cop haters managed to find this video, I am a retired police officer of 30 years and loved every minute of it . I build models of police cruisers and I have an interest in the vintage units. Thanks for the interesting video. Oh to the cop haters I think I hear your mommy calling you, come on out of your parents basement and learn a little about the real world. Oh and super black man your 15 kids need some support, get offthe computer and find a job so your kids can eat

  • @cmcharlesmillar Why should he? Slobs like you and I are feeding his kids AND paying for his computer and internet access. You should know as a cop that common sense and logic will not be tolerated.

  • @cmcharlesmillar Arguing online with kids doesn't really make you look that mature, whether or not you're really an ex-Police Officer, "sir".

  • the first women joined in 1891 but the first black not until 1911 ?? wtf, black men are absolutely equal to white man, but women are weak, scary, cant shoot, have no authority and are only in the police because of feminists, not because the are needed!!!

  • @bonzty Usually I find mysogony offensive, but your comment is just laughable in every sense of the word. You have no sense of grammer. Anyways, women are "weak"? Okay, it's common sense they're not as strong as men, but they're not by any means 'weak'. "Scary" what the motherfuck? Are you gay? "Can't shoot".. yeah, because pulling a trigger requires a shitload of skill.

  • @StanpyX And it's also only because of civil rights campaigners and the like that black people are allowed to be Police. But anyways, female police officers are a neccesity, believe it or not. Not all of police work is about running after and handcuffing burley drugdealers, which I agree a man is more suited to. There's some areas of policing that require a more delicate touch, and that's where women are useful. My biggest example is female suspects, but there's also children and suicidal people

  • @StanpyX All I really look for in a police officer is the ability to do their job right. I don't give a shit if it's a male, female, black, white, straight, gay, etc. I'm by no means a liberal political correctness commando, either.

Only ignorant people get obsessed with those little issues, anyway.

  • bad song

  • Great man

  • my mum was an officer with the royal ulster constabulary during the height of the troubles. patrolled the streets to keep us safe. well done mum!

  • Speacil Units? YOUR Special ! XD

  • Best police force in the world

  • I think it is great that you put together this video. I must point out one minor detail. The word 'cop' is old english and from England. It stands for Constable On Patrol. (at least that is what detective Scrotes told me)

  • To Jrfirefighter The NYPD and all NYS PDs use red lights . Blue lights are reserved for volunteer Fire dept use on there personal autos when responding to the fire house. Some NYS Police cars also now use blue on the Interstates The Command Bus are know as THV s in NYPD jargon Tempoary HQ Vehicle

  • Does anyone know why NYPD uses red emergency lights and not blue?

  • I believe it is more tradition than anything else. Recently some NYPD vehicles and New York State Police vehicles are using both red and blue beacons in their emergency lights. No one I have ever spoken to seems to know the exact reason though. Jersey was similar up until very recently as well whereas Virginia mandates the use of blue emergency lighting for police vehicles.

  • The notation of "coppers" is not exactly true. Coppers were coppers and cop stood for "Constable On Patrol".

  • 0:51 lol

  • Great !!!!! need to watch it.

  • Smh your Retarded 3:17 Speacil Units It's Special Units You clown

  • @Chrisrambo09 The spelling cop strikes again. Get a life.

  • Am I imagining things, or did I really see a Vespa scooter?

Also, when the second song played, I immediately said out loud, "The Streets of San Francisco! A Quinn Martin Production!"

  • actually the reason is b/c the NYPD were the first to have a uniformed police force. the buttons on their jackets were made of copper and people called them coppers b/c of this. then it was shortened to cops.

  • its kinda hard to be a tough cop on a moped.

  • did they use swat tanks back then

  • SUPER SUPER MEN S

  • SUPER SUPER MEN S

  • SUPER

  • SUPER

  • SUPER

  • thanks for the video. learned some stuff from it. good job.

  • anyone else think that the crown vics will always be cooler and these new, fancy chargers or impalas?

  • @outerspit55 Crown Vics are very imposing, and you can see one coming up from behind you from a mile away! Usually it is a cop, or a little blue haired lady driving fast!

  • A mistake at 3:02!!! There stands: 1997!

But the car on the background: Ford Crown Victoria, is at least from 2003!!!

  • this guy needs to learn how to spell "speacil units" 3:17

  • I love the Police car of the year 2000 its such a cool car xD

  • @Gamer1988Pro Ugghh... that is the opposite of what I was thinking. Wasn't that car a V6 FWD?

  • @crimdell

    ???

  • @Gamer1988Pro What is so confusing? I just stated that my own opinion of the 2000 Chevrolet Impala is not as favorable as yours. I think that it had a V6 engine with FWD, which had to be frustrating for any cops chasing faster vehicles (which is just about every other vehicle on the road). You can like the car. That's fine. I just don't think very highly of GM sedans manufactured in that period. Or most periods, for that matter. Peace, bro.

  • the dodge charger was awasome

  • nice vid!

  • I like 1973 colors

  • I dont know why your comment was removed but i wonder why they went from blue to white.

    Maybe a money saving measure.

  • @PULSE88 A study was done in the early to mid 90's and it was found that people are more likely to approach a white vehicle than a blue vehicle. The white vehicles seem to provide an overall more favorable image over the blue vehicles which were switched from being green in the 70's.

  • Well, cheers for that information mate.

I guess that if the people of NYC perfer a white vehicle, a white vehicle they shall have LOL.

I never knew such a study was carryied out.

    Cheers again.
