if this was implemented half of the counters would be lost too. Counters have different inputs that involve both forward and backward presses so evade would most likely need something different. I suggest having evades work the same as Just Guards from Soul Calibur with a (slightly) larger buffer. This would also keep people from spamming evade and recovering all of their health in a match, unless that person has beats in their head and can Just Guard as easy as they can breath.
I hope this doa isn't as hard as doa4 because that was basically a block and counter fest and it was hard for me to do both because it was really hard to time my counterattacks right and it was as if you were stunned when you got hit because when i did it was like i coudn't regroup! That final boss was also a pain in the ass!
Well thats awkward... You can basically do that. Lei Fang does that with a forward+gaurd button, she just pushes the attack away and neither character takes any damage.
Well It would Work Butt witt Certain Players cause Zack idk if Ppl would be able to Keep up witt his Attacks Or even Ayane butt Leon Or Bayman yea It would work because They Fight slow!! so idk We would half to see ;)
To be Honest half you of can barely keep up with counters, if you throw evade in the mix it get more confusing and complicated. I think we shouldnt mess with the formula, it it aint broken, dont fix it.
@BlackOrochi Counter is complicated when you fight good opponents. if you fight a mediocre player who spams the same combo then that's easy, but you cant say the same on someone who knows the character well and variates their moves. Counter is definitely complicated in DoA.
@JunDageki We both agree on that, however i'd say Countering is technical, but definitely not complicated to understand nor to perform. That's the beauty of it.
@BlackOrochi No, I said it would be confusing and complicated if we add evade to it. Countering is somewhat confusing for most people. Esp. in the midst of the fight and some attacks that look high but are actually mid, etc. Countering itself is enough to keep you thinking and guessing, don't make it more complicated.
@Chaotix641 Kinda. It's more about giving players defensive options: whether to decrease the opponents health bar with a counter, or to increase one's own health bar with an evasion.
i would say add the evasive command but dont add recover health for every successful evade. make it so that when u evade powerful attack from the other opponent, it make the other opponent vulnerable a like a second or two, allow small window of oppotunity to close in for attack or juggle if possible. To prevent people from evading all the time, add a little meter with like 7 or 8 blocks indicate how many time you can evade, then it regenerate over time or something like that.
@TheGodsamurai Indeed, it's called adding +frames to allow players to react faster after a successful defensive move. It's a good suggestion. However, I'm afraid that adding a limited number of times would curb the players' freedom. And it would also be too similar to other fighting games that have gauges, special move bars, ultra bars, etc. DOA is supposed to be purposely uncluttered IMO...
@BlackOrochi it just gonna prevent people from evade all the time. the player still have freedom to use counter if evade amounts reach zero, but the evade bar will regenerate over time for some more evade. DOA has never have any sort of ultra bar for special attack to begin with so we ok with that. so it like evade create opportunity to land multi hit combo at the cost of using it sparingly, while counter reward powerful counter attack at the cost of precise timing.
@TheGodsamurai I see your point: players would use Evasions instead of Counters to reverse opponents attack and inflict damage to them... That's exactly why I did not want Evasions to give "+frame advantages" in the first place, but somehow some friends convinced me that it would be better. In the end, i think that Evasions should only be used to strategically recover a little health throughout the match and NOT to counter attacks, since Counters already do that ! Thx for bringing this up :)
@BlackOrochi no problem man, glad we have this discussion. anymore ideas on any game in the future, hit me up for some opinions. i will gladly tell u what i think and for u to come up with more idea. I might not play every game that u play, but if i know any of those game u speak off, we can discuss.
I like the idea, recovering portions of health sounds good too, just gotta add a penalty like guilty gear/blazblue for turtling without attacking. like a negative effect, they do it in those games to keep people from winning by getting the lead and playing keep away. Make sense?
@DragonXL47 Absolutely agree. Maybe a failed evasion can make the opponent vulnarable for a longer period of time, therefore leaving an opening so called "Power Blows" or regular combos ... It'll take testing.
Manual evasions would work yes... but health recovery would be disastrous amongst high-tier players seeing as how they might drag it on and on by doing consecutive evasions and rebuilding all lost health etc. Its a very good idea though :)
@pspkiller626 The risk is there, for sure. Maybe the portion of Health recovered and the penalty incurred for a failed evasion can be key... Again, it takes testing. Thx for the comment!
There are some attacks you can evade already, so I'm going to assume you mean punches and kicks. If you do, then it's a good idea!! But there should be a limit on how many you can use! And I like the way you have the counter coward and evade back. BUT you should be switch the counter to back and evade forward in options! Personally I use counters as a back ya know?? :) I hope this wins!!
This makes sense, but some attacks ACTUALLY DO evade. When you counter some of Kasumi 's somersault kicks, you side step about 270 degrees to either her left or right side. Evasions sound ok, but it still needs more defining. and/or refining.
@FlowerOfRebellion True, however one does not exclude the other. They can co-exist :) I'd be curious to see how Team Ninja works with that...if ever they do...
Sounds ok for DOA, but the amount of life recovery per successful evade should be limited. Perhaps every damage taken can leave an 2ndary life for recovery behind the actual life bar, & it would sustain recoverable damage up to 50% from each damage taken. Also, getting counter hit by rival while having recoverable life would eliminate the current recoverable life & reset it 50% from the counter hit taken.
That way, player would have to be careful & motivated at the same time to use Evade inputs.
Just imagine what this would be like in tournaments "OH JT GETS DOMINATED, OH JT IS EVADING ALL THE MOVES HE GET 15% OF HIS HEALTH BACK! JT DEFEATS GEN WITH HIS 12 HIT COMBO OHHHH HE GETS HIT BY A CAR THIS COULD GIVE JT A CHANCE TO WIN! KO FROM JT!
lol its kinda a good Idea I mean if someone where to do an attack like dragon kick you would dodge it anyway and for those characters that have counters for 9,6, and 3 they could gain life some life for that. or at least the kung-fu characters could like elliot, lefaing, and gen fu.... that leaves... bayman he doesn't gain life cus he's such a hard ass :p
I am not exactly sure this would work. This just feels a bit more like SSB's evasive system. Plus, there are more than a few characters that have special holds, I don't think those could be rearranged to make room for the evasion system.
Also, this evasive feature would set DOA apart from all the other games. Without the evasive feature, its honestly like any other new fighting game that comes out; just good graphics and new characters.
This is a great idea!!! Adding the evasive commands to DOA increases enjoyment of the overall player experience and it creates a new dimension of versatility to strategic gameplay. Making fighting commands more complicated is really not a bad thing; since games like Street Fighter have somewhat complex commands to master. Getting health for each successful evasion is a sufficient reward; since games are usually intended to present some degree of challenge for the player.
Wow thats not a bad idea! Although you already can evade (in a way) by ducking against a high punch or jumping against a low kick, but regaining health and everything sounds pretty cool.
Now wether this gets put into the game or not depends on a few things...
1. The creaters (TeamNinja) would need to be watching this exact video.
2. They would need to like the idea enough to change the game and add these things in.
3. They'll need our support, but they shouldve had evading in DOA all along.
@RandomPhail Thx for commenting! Ducking and Side-stepping do allow players to dodge in a way, but Evasions would allow them to dodge in the middle of an opponents combo :)
@SylantGod If they did implement something like that I would say that's cool about the frame advantage. But even more so how about new moves from evading like throws that add even more dmg. And even if you do get special throws from that position it should be 100% able to. It would add more game play dynamics. Knowing when to do a fast frame rate attack over using a throw in the situation to do the most dmg in that time frame. Would really be cool with speed of game too.
@SylantGod And "I" know they should add lynching to the game as a new KO feature to the game,to create "depth" to how finish a round =/ Only Scorpion from MK9 so far had the right idea even tho there's only 2 blacks in that game and from what I can remember of this horrid series,Zack the kickboxer is the only dark one that watch too much of Bill and Ted and thought he was white =/
@zeokenX seriously? man your so racist like i dont want to talk to you. nobody in the community of DOA CENTRAL wants to talk to you. nobody likes you and prejedism. at all. its not cool. not ammusing. and definitely not healthy to society. please change your ways. get jesus or something. just stop being you. dickhead
Omg thats actually a good idea, becos counters as it is takes more life than neccessary ending the game fast without much attacks being made, evation with increased health will be brilliant, and the function of towards them is intelligent cos then its even more riskier, but takes skill, so it becomes a two tier game, seperating pro's from lucky amateurs

@kyoniscat How would that help you recover from long juggles? 90% of high level play is about "training" your opponent and playing mind games. I rarely get juggled or juggle any high level player. Juggles are in the game to punish for a reason. You obviously can't play the game worth a lick.
@flippedoutcookie yeah i guess man i don't play this competitively.. sheesh don't get so worked up.. i love doa as much as anyone.. more of a 2d fighter myself so don't talk to me about mind games because doa is pretty easy.. sixty something wins.. one loss look at my wins online.. yes i know that's not saying much but at least i know more than mashing.. you're nothing but a try hard.. play me on doa i'll kill you, street fighter, blazblue, arcana heart, darkstalkers.. cmon:)
