  • Ah.....facts of Texas History and its rise to the Republic of Texas!!

  • @Crazycupmuffin Actually, it was written in 1836. The author is unknown. 1836-1955 That's almost 120 years!!!!!

  • this song was wrote around 1853. So its funy that after 100 years it was a number 1 song in 1955 :)

  • On Sept 2, 1955

"The Yellow Rose Of Texas" by Mitch Miller was the #1 song.

  • Originally released in August 1955 on {American red label} Columbia 40540.

  • Yesserie gents that's right! The high yeller rose was a Black woman!!!

  • I have that same record! Except, it's a red Columbia label, backed with Blackberry Winter.

  • I will shotgun this video with my internet 12 guage

  • @powerkor Missed!!

  • @78s4FR aw hell!

  • Anyone who does not see the beauty of this song is ignorant. Texas is a great state. There are more beautiful Women in Texas than anywhere in the entire world. Period.

  • God, how this brings back memories to me of an age of innocence, scratchy records, singers that could sing, orchestras that could play and bring joy to a young fella getting ready to go out dancing. Can still remember.

  • lol I forgot that some people still listen to records

Meanwhile in the year 2011, I've got a couple thousand way higher quality tracks total on my pc and Zune.

  • @DracoAzule there not better quality , analogue and mono just as good, they just sound diffrent

  • it almost looks like the record is warped a bit but still sounds good

  • This video is posted on Facebook page called "Golden Tunes - Sound of Oldies", so if you have fb account and some time, check it, i guess you will like it :) Page is for everyone who like like warm cozy sound of evergreen music.

  • I remember waking up to this song when I was 6 years old. That was 54 years ago. And I'm a Canadian.

  • @doggygerms geez, sorry to hear that. must have been a nightmare for a canadian to hear this, especially with any word texas in it.

  • @doggygerms i remember listening to this song when i was 25 years old. That was 2 seconds ago :)

  • wavy wavy!!!!!!!

  • @iempsa best comment ever! =)

  • A #1 hit for Mitch Miller in September 1955. It knocked out the song that is the song that began the Rock Era. Rock Around the Clock by Bill Haley and His Comets. Mitch proved that the Big Band Era wasn't quite done yet. Mitch, you gave us so much and despite your age, it doesn't seem right that you are no longer with us. Thank you for the memories. We love you and will never forget you.

  • Mitch Miller born July 4,1911 passed away July 31,2010 in his 99th Year. Rest in peace.

  • @masstax very sad to hear of mitch millers death just last month. i remember watching singalong with mitch as a very young youth featuring diana trask our own australian girl.

  • @masstax I just discovered this song today and I can't get enough of it.

  • Mitch, you will be missed.

  • RIP Mitch....

  • that is a warped fucking record

  • @RedZeppelin Yeah!! that's what happens when you expose them to the heat..prob. stored in a basement near the boiler...

  • Mitch Miller passed away today at 99 and it reminded me that cleaning the house on Saturday nights always included singing w/ dads reconrds and sing along with Mitch was always part of it. I wish I could have found one with his band singing.

  • RIP Mitch Miller. 1911-2010.

  • Mullet is a fish, The Yellow Rose of Texas was a Mullato. Like obama

  • @minstrelboy8 I thought that mullet was a hairstyle favored by fashionably challemged rednex???. I'll use it in a sentence: " Many of the teabaggers that hate the mulatto Obama sport the ever fashionable mullet hairstyle!!!"

  • Little known fact: The Yellow Rose of Texas was a mullet woman, a high yeller in the raciest language of the day, who, in service to the Texas Republic, volunteered to entertain the lecherous Mexican President Santa Anna as Sam Hustons troops closed in on San Jacinto. The General was literally caught with his pants down.

  • Gosh! Thanks for that

  • That would be mulatto.A mullet is a fish,or a bad haircut

  • @caitlan97 I think you meant Mulatto??? Rumor has it than when the Battle of San Jacinto started, Santa Anna emerged from his tent with his pants down around his ankles!!!

  • @caitlan97 Holy frijoles! Interesting. Did you know that in the famous World War 1 song " It's A Long Way To Tipperary " Tipperary was a nickname the British soldiers had for a brothel in London? "Leicester Square" also mentioned in the song was also the nickname another brothel in London.

  • @caitlan97 I think you'll find that she was in fact a "mulatto" woman, rather than a "mullet".

  • This is a real oldie - played on 78 RPM

  • I love it

  • great song......

    ritesh..INDIA

  • Still have my mom's record. lol bright red columbia w/ plenty of scratches from wear. Kids today have elmo and nintendo--I sat next to my mom's cabinet stereo listening to this music and prolly coloring or something. Dug it out tonight when I was thinking about it and decided to look the songs up and found a few.

  • Ah 1955 - Mitch Miller and Guy Mitchell. This takes me back to high school in Wales. Thanks for posting.

  • This brings back memories - thanks for posting.
