  • Don't you miss those days when there weren't all these obnoxious dickheads on the trains jabbering on phones? Sigh.

  • :51 is that her purse or a bag just to carry the phone?

  • THE COMMERCIAL AT THE BEGINNING RUINED THE VIDEO. THIS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED ON YOUTUBE!

  • For everyone who says the average idiot cannot use a computer from the 80s. I still have a working comidor 64, and still own a 3.5" floppy drive desk top computer with windows 3.7... I think I can handle that... In fact if the average idiot could not handle them computers then they would never be able to handle the ones we have today... 64mb hard drive in the 64, 1tb in my computer now. Oh and I use a linix os on this one.

  • I need one of those new phones

  • Where is all this shit now?

  • It's funny how people rip on '80s tech but your average moron today wouldn't have the skills required to use a computer in 1982. We've become a nation of fat, lazy, reality-TV-watching idiots.

  • 80s was the BESTTT!!

  • @pcmcguire18504 "your average moron today wouldn't have the skills required to use a computer in 1982."

    Speak for yourself.

  • Dang I had forgotten how huge those things were!

  • These guys are high tech lmao!

  • so this was going on when i was being born! haha cool stuff! :P

  • I bet those phones came with a can of soda. (Dutch language joke. Old, bulky cellphones are known here as "koelkasten", fridges).

  • Produced by Tim and Eric.

  • LOL LOOK AT THE LAPTOP @:39

  • One of the cars registrations was an 'E' plate, wasn't that 1988, not 86'.....?

  • DUDE! Dig this. It's like, SO RAD! There's now floppy disks that are half the size of regular disks, and hold 1.44 MEGABYTES! What's next? PCs that run over 100MHz?

  • Zack Morris called, he wants his phone back!

  • all these people are dead from brain cancer

  • Dig that top of the line Lapper with the 3.5 disc drive!

  • Whata...

  • Yeah but can you make 1?

  • Aaaah, but can it play angry birds?

  • @pesmerga1983 yeah it could! you throw the phone to them pigs and poof!

  • @pesmerga1983 yes, you go to the park and throw it at the pigeons

  • @pesmerga1983 seems angry birds is made like 20 years later, no.

  • Right now I'm sitting beside my old rotary phone. I still use it a lot as it 'feels' right and, once I've gotten through to the other side, it is very easy to use. From my armchair, that is.

Maybe some day I'll by one of them thar sell phone thingies. Or maybe not...

  • "Phone Point'

pre-cursor to the WiFi access point... lol

  • The iphone -10

  • 00:17 now i know what pat sharp did before fun house

  • It looks like they just grabbed my tv remote.

  • o man awesome an only 8$ a minute lol

  • The lady with the phone looks like zack morris

  • Blame them for the riots!

  • ah back in the day when if you drooped your phone it still worked

  • proof at the end:

if you want to talk somebody in the United Kingdom, you get British Airway's tickets because the phone cann't reach that country.

  • i miss the old bag phones and car phones, they were pretty neat and noramlly had a better signal than even some of todays phones.

  • 0:14 "Hey! Have you heard about that new operative system. It's called DOS. It's so cool!"

  • Geeky European chicks with big 1980's hair...yeasssssss!!!

    Not.

  • If cellphones have a link to cancer in the current day, imagine what those technological monstrosities could do to you back then. XD

  • The antens, look like swords O_O

  • 0:17 So these where the first razor phones? And Motorola thought they had something big! I can hear the conversation now, I call up my friend. "Oh hi Jeff, yeah I'm on my razor, yeah I 'mustache' you a question, but I'm 'shaving' it for later, bye."

  • @SlobbyHill mustache, gotta train to catch....

  • downloading trojan.exe 14 hours remaining

  • 1:05 Woah! Was that a... PRINT ticket at the end there? Wow, I just scan my ticket off my phone now (lol).

  • Phones could be hidden in mullets back then.

  • The telephone doubles as a self-defense weapon!!!!!

  • I remember a guy who had a "Luggable" phone. It was basically worn on a shoulder strap and sat on the hip, with a receiver that was attached to the main unit by a spiral cord like on a landline phone...

  • Hey, I had a Razr phone once.

    Damn I must be old.

  • that battery was bigger than my phone

  • The 80s: Shitty phones, shitty music, and some FUCKED UP HAIR.

  • @BoomBoy13 - someone was born in the mid-late 90s.

  • @islandblader yeah, that doesn't mean shit

  • @BoomBoy13

No more shitty and fucked up than some of the pretentious bling bling shite yo' listen to, dickhead.

  • @JMR83 nah man, im more for classic rock

  • @BoomBoy13

Yup, much as I love some classic rock you sound like the perfect Led Zep musical snob then

  • @JMR83 Snob? How so?

  • Hello? Yes this is she...yes doctor? Brain tumours!?!

  • Spot the E-registration car, which didn't come out til Summer 1987, making this probably 1987 or 1988.

  • 25 years from now someone else is going to view old commercials of our phones these days and comment on how lame they were.

  • @MrCorporalTunnel yeah, they'll have cell phones the size of your finger nail, like Zoolander.

  • Hey....how ironic! the RAZR...or here, RAZOR....in 1986....0:15

  • 1:04 - Wow, small enough to fit in a suitcase!

  • Comment removed

  • those are sum fat ass phones

  • On location we used to call it "The Brick"

  • And the BEST thing is.. is that it's ONLY $10.00 a minute!

  • I remember my first computer. It had the memory of Paris Hilton and the speed of a snail that realy doesn't have to be anywhere right now.

  • Those phones were as big as a phoneboot !

  • i love the music

  • thats not a mobile phone thats the thing they use for calling in artillary and air strikes.

  • I love it at :50 when she pulls that big ass phone from her tiny purse!!! HAHAHAHA!!!!!

  • in the year 2000!!!!!! in the year Two Thows UUUUUUUUNNNNNNDDDDD!!!

  • If you got attacked by a crazed flash mob at least you could use it as a weapon to defend yourself. These little plastic phones of today wouldn't hurt anybody

  • @FlamingoKicker

How about the Razr? haven't you seen the commercial for those things? You could slice someone to pieces.

And just yesterday, I crushed a would be mugger's skull in with my Ipad. Those things are fucking STURDY.

  • Retro 80's synth music too

  • WOW you can just feel the Brain Cancer from those phone that ONLY weigh a POUND! :)

  • google:- the yapper zapper. Its a very cool mini cell phone jammer

  • love how the ad loads instantly but I have to wait for the video to buffer.

  • @jdoggybizzle ikr .. and sometimes, you get a 30+ second ad on EVERY video .. even if they're all from the same uploader.. wasn't there supposed to be a protection against that? (one ad watched, next ten or 15mins there shouldn't be any ads on all videos to prevent exactly that)

if firefox wouldn't suck so bad in current versions (RAM usage, fucked up interface, buggy hardware acceleration), i'd use that + AdblockPlus (dot org)

  • 0:07 i swear thats a dude with a wig.

  • @InsaneMovie This was the 80s. The hair is normal. That's just a dude in a dress.

  • Was everyone that ugly back then o.o

  • The great thing about phones in those days is they could be used as weapons.

  • Those phones made great self-defense weapons.

  • What you may not realize is that "background music" was really the ladies ring tone the entire time.

  • theme music sounds like a madonna single lol

  • Saddest thing about this commercial........in 20 years, people are going to look back at commercials for Droids and iphones in the same way we look at these today...

  • A Piano-phone? Kick Ass, I want one too!!!

  • wow. You mean people can have a phone they can take with them? That is neetO.

  • And now that the World Health Organization has determined you can get brain tumors from using a cell phone...figure...these people that had one in the 80's should be on the death clock first.

  • "RAZOR FONE!"

"For the man who wants to combine the world of telecoms with shaving paraphanalia.."

  • Comment removed

  • My dad had a phone like that!

  • I'm guessing the "Phone Port" sign indicated coverage for cell phones?

Wow reminds me of Wifi spots though in Korea - there is one massive as Wifi coverage covers entire cities!

  • I honestly think older technology looks better than most of the newer stuff today.

  • 14 TURDS DIDNT LIKE

  • Why does it say '86 when the "E" plate was 87-88?

  • That laptop was awesome!!

  • ahh the classic motorola dynatac brick phone

  • The 198o's cell phones really, really sucked and weren't really good unlike the cell phones today. Anyone who was born in the 1980's like me would agree.

  • amazing! i need one of those! where can I get one?

  • @RobbyArt I think you'd have to do to the landfill for one of these.

  • @mmr11027 Unbelievable. Why anyone would want to throw away one of these is absurd. This is unbelievable technology. Someday in the future we will all have one of these.

  • @RobbyArt I know. Everybody needs at least one paperweight or doorstop, right? I do think it would be nice to have one as a conversation piece but not for conversation.

  • @mmr11027 Actually I think I have one of these in the garage somewhere if not at the landfill.

  • Pause at 0:18 The "Razor Phone" is actually a phone shaped like a shaving razor... WTF Motorola? Where are our shaving razor cell phones?

  • @somedvl I totally have one of those... but in blue! It is awesome, not really awesome at making phone calls, just awesome

  • thats so new wave! does duran duran have a customizable phone i can buy!?

  • Better than the iphone.

  • The 1980's called. THEY WANT THEIR CELL PHONES BACK!

  • @Meef1701

What a living nightmare if there is no way of turning them off.... Mass suicides will become the norm.

  • I still have one of those works perfect its 11 years now, bought an iphone 2g broke after 2.5 years

  • no android that days????

  • looks like brick....

  • ... and eyeglass arms attached at the bottom of the frame instead of the middle.

  • The.. Razorphone? Am I the only who just saw a massive razor with a built in phone in that store window?

  • 0:56 Hello? Is anyone there missing a giant pair of ugly glasses?

  • @noisepuppet Just you whore

  • @noisepuppet But you'll have to agree the girl' hot - 80s hotness!

  • did u see that razor phone!!??!?! HAHAHAHAHA soooo ghetto!! lmao

  • Reckon you can get apps on it?

  • @KrustyDangley5 you can! theyre sooo good can do almost anything on them!

  • @Jackk721 Is right jackkyyy laa ;) haha have to check em out ;)

  • these phones were like the strongest thing every built , they would never break as easily as today's phones , and were awesome :)

  • That lady pressing the buttons down on the phone like she was lightly touching a touch screen! NOT!! Those buttons were hard to press down! Then you had to press SEND to make the call or SND - haha

  • @BennyB5555 Hahaha...yea, those phones were like bricks! And they cost over $500...I guess because, back then, when you bought a cell phone, that was it...thats probably the only phone you will purchase for several years - they didn't have "up-grades" every 18 months or 12 months, like they do now. One thing I can say for the old cell phones, though, is that they were actually pretty darn rugged and durable (for $500, they better be!). Now, they aren't made to last; it breaks...buy a new one!

  • @dslgunner1977 That's so true. Since these came out around my birth, older people would go on about how the reception was top notch. Amazing for that time period, if you ask me.

  • @TheDoodlibop - a friend of mine commented on this recently. He observed how, as phones became combined with PDAs, the PDA side kept getting better, but the phone side keeps getting worse.

  • 100% of people who used these phones have cochlear cysts.

  • heck with that thing, I want a razor fone! :17

  • @jeremyc311709 HAHAHA RAZOR?!!!! that's so last week. I mean that there's a new type of phone out every time you look around ! lol

  • Being a teenager in the 80s...let me tell you that this was pretty cutting edge. We all thought it AMAZING, that you could place calls, while you were out and about, without having to use a pay phone.

Trust me, in about 5 or 10 years, I phones and smart phones will be passe'. I get made fun of because I still use a flip phone, and don't have a touch screen. I just bought a qwerty keyboard phone, only because Verizon's data plan is WAY overpriced!

  • What they failed to mention about cell phones is how much they would annoy the hell out of everyone.

  • xD Ohh man, cant wait, is it already out yet?

  • 1:03 that chick's like, "great I sat down here to read, and now this b*tch won't shut up on her phone!!!"

  • 0:16 and here you thought a "Razor phone" was a skinny flip phone made by Motorola 5 years ago!! wrong!!!!

  • The 80's, hair style, clothes and music...what where we thinking?

  • The white "cellphones" depicted in certain parts of this video are actually CT2 cordless phones.

  • Oh dear! Sitting here with my iPhone, laptop and plasma TV this looks like 1846! Gotta love the 1980s and 1990s :D

  • Talking on a brick with an antenna like a soup can with a string. Wow, people have such imagination!

  • Man, that battery at 0:37 is bigger than today's mobile phones!

  • Man, that song is hot! woo!!!!

  • I was one of the first people in the Atlanta market who had a portable cellular phone back in 1988. Was a huge bag phone, Battery lasted about 8 hours on a charge and I got a whopping 100 free minutes every month with my service for the low low price of $120.00 and additional minutes were just $0.75 each during peak hours of 5am until 8pm and then just $0.56 from 8pm until 5am. What a deal! I was the shizzle!

  • I want that bookmac at 39

  • I can just imagine the conversations these people are holding when buying a portable phone in 1986....

"You know we only take credit card."

"Oh I have several credit cards. Pick any I forgot which one is maxed-out."

"What's all this white residue on them?"

    "Oh, that.s...powder...for your nose."

"Now you know the bill is going to run you about $900 a month."

"Do you have a bathroom? I need to powder my nose again."

  • But can it check Facebook and tweet?

  • Sadly, this was filmed last week in Bratislava.

  • I didn't know Princess Diana did advertisements in the 80s!!!

  • if you use those today i heard they give brain tumors

  • At 0:58 , looks like they didn't just do big phones in the 80's; LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THOSE GLASSES!

  • you're all cunts

  • I want one!!!
