  • In my humble opinion, Larry is one of the all time great jazz guitarists. He has such a head for melody and beautiful chordal voicing. Just listen to the chords he plays behind Mark's solo. If you're not familiar with jazz music, you might think "sloppy" but no, jazz is improvisation and if you're coming from a pop place, jazz might sound sloppy because you're use to hearing everything perfectly placed and definitive. This tune is played masterfully and with much feeling by these three.

  • wish Mark Egan played longer with Pat Metheny. So talented such a great noise.

  • Know I know what is wrong with my playing - no drugs. I should get so sloppy. Love his work.

    Ron

  • Mark has such great tone. Wonderful

  • Its not a ripoff but I think a type of jazz groove- In the movie "Monterey Pop" Hugh Masakela hits it at the end if the short bit he is shown. I saw Robben Ford play what I thought was a Coryell tune, "Soul's Dirge" off Fairyland, with new words, he said it was his own- I'm sure they were similar- but who cares if the playing is great. Only the copyright holder of a song need worry much about this .

  • Mark Egan?.... One of the best bass player in the world!! Do you know he played bass in the album of Arcadia "So red the rose"?

  • this song, one the cd of the same name, i think, is one of larry coryell's best, some of his other stuff is really sloppy

  • Really, Sloppy, Where, show me. I've been playing for 50yrs so tell me where has Coryell been sloppy? His sloppy is better than most player clean. Lets see your video so we can all be perfect like you.

  • I should play so sloppy! hahaha good answer. I haven't been folliwing his carreer- I have listened to Fairyland about 100 times over the years tho- on of my top 10 by ANYONE! Iys so great to see this guy playing so neautifully- this song is quite lovely- there is a tune with a similar groove by Cliff Coulter on an old ESP sampler I have- Coryell is on the same label (same sampler too) so he might even have known that one or played on the track himself- thanks wonderful music LARRY!!!

  • Thanks man. Larry is probably one the best all round players. Plays everything above and beyond. He should be a model for every modern player. Sloppy, yea right. His harmonies and lines are unsurpassed. Later dude

  • I've been a Coryell fan since the 11th House Days. A great player, but when he was drinking and drugging, his playing WAS sloppy, and I saw several live shows of his that were far below his usual par. He admits as much in his book. Glad he's beaten off his demons and following his muse.

  • Yes I do remember that time. He came it out of nicely. I saw one of those shows at a place called "MY Fathers Place in Roslyn New York. He's still a giant in my eyes. His knowledge and commitment is unsurpassed. Good to hear from you.

  • I was in the band that opened for Larry that night at "My Father's Place", Jatra. Speaking to hi, backstage I could tell he was having a very hard time, although he played remarkably well under the circumstances. Instead of his solo second set he played with our band and I was thrilled. That was a long time ago and he has dealt with all of those problems admirably.

  • a trio playing jazz should sound a bit sloppy and thats why its so great. new music is perfect down to the last note and has no feel to it and thats why new music SUCKS!!!!!

  • what are you talking about. since when is sloppy good? i didnt even say that "trycicles" was sloppy. and playing "perfect" whatever that is, doesnt take feel away from the music. playing perfect, or good, lets say, has been going on for centuries, even lending to the romantic era. playing music without any ideas or anything to convey or express takes feel away from music, not play "perfectly." and i have no idea what you mean by "new music"

  • Nice recording quality on a very nice piece!

  • Does anyone have the chords for this one? Send plz, plz help!

  • Mark Egan sounds even better live. He, Larry, and Paul Wertico drove up to my hometown from NYC to play a gig one Sunday afternoon about six years ago. Larry and Paul played some amazing stuff, but Mark's sound is what made the trio sound fantastic!

  • He does have excellent tone. It doesn't hurt that he's playing a Pedulla MVP bass. I love his soloing too. He is very lyrical and tasteful and only goes for the pyrotechnics on a rare occasion.

  • Larry is such a great player. Egan is a monster. It's nice to see him in a straight ahead but yet open and free areana.

  • The song by Mark Egan sounds exactly like "Blue n´green" by Miles...

  • There is a little similarity in the changes in the very beginning, but the songs are completely different otherwise.

Yes, I am comparing them as I type.

  • A little similarity... Ok, everything is in the eyes (and ears) of the beholder... Best wishes!

  • Mark is sounding good. I wish somebody had video of him with the Pat Metheny Group.

  • A pretty piece, and yes, Larry still plays beautifully. (But c'mon, show Mark Egan while he's soloing!) Larry has never really gotten his due.

  • Larry has reached the age where a guitarist is entitled to sit down while comping, but he's lost none of that subtle but intense lyrical feel. I think it's past 37 years that I've been admiring his work, and the admiration has only heightened with the years. Nicely produced video, too!
