This was my favorite 76ers team. They return the 76ers back to an elite NBA team, They corrected the screwed up job our very own, Philadelphia's Dr. Jack Ramsey trade the great Wilt Chamberlin leading to the franchise crumbling in 1973. They we drafted Doug Collins, trade for Big George McGinnis, draft Llyod Free, Daryl Dawkins, Joe Bryant, Harvey Catchings, Mike Dunlevay traded for Caldwell Jones, Steve Mix. In the finals George choked bad in the worst slump of his career and it cost us.
I don't think it's any coincidence that ever since David Stern became NBA Commissioner, no small market teams have won a title and 80% of the teams have never been to the Finals. It's pretty much set up now a days so that the big players go to the big markets and teams like the Blazers and Jazz and Kings and Pacers etc, will always get the shaft because they're just simply not big enough. It's sad.
@WrestlingBC12 If Stern had his way, the Lakers and the Celtics, Knicks or 76ers would be in the Finals every year. Maybe San Antonio would get in once every 5-10 years; Houston once or twice a decade as well.
@decline2state David Stern screwed up the N.B.A. I'm a Basketball player and I haven't watched the N.B.A. in 15 years. Just don't like it. Don't like Lebron James or his philosophy. Small market teams might as well not even exist. Money rules. Plain and Simple. Philly, Boston, New York, L.A. Chicago. No Kings, No Hawks, No Warriors, No Cavs, No Blazers - None of those teams in the finals. Same teams every year - Borrrrrrrring!!
Hey devean3, I'm practicing to enhance my jumping ability by following the training course over at (50 inch vertical [dot] com) - and thus far got like over 9-10 inches so far but I'm only a a little off from dunking the ball It is still my 2nd week so far, any tips?
devean3 ok, other stuff can I say. Anyone who owns or plays with a bball need to all learn how you can dunk, I just recently completed the workout program at 50 inch vertical (dot) com - I wish I did it sooner (I m only 5'6!)
eh devean3, if you {want|would like|wish|really want} to develop in basketball, you have to start {following|sticking with} #RANDSETa {real|actual|genuine|authentic|serious|proper|legit} # training prog. I used the famous nba training prog at | 50 inch vertical [dot] com |. I haven t even told this to my college teammates yet heh
what people forget was that mcginness was playing the whole series with a severe groin pull but wasn't allowed to sit because his backup, steve mix, was out with a broken leg. the blazers won by essentially playing 5 on 4 the whole time.
I used to have game 6 on tape - they gave away copies at Tom Peterson's when you bought a couch or a vcr or some crazy thing...I remember the first time I watched it I had goosebumps the whole time because I knew how it would end, but that made it all the better! :-)
portlannd was the epitome of team basketball, philly was not, blazers ran fastbreak and passed as well as any team ever did, walton ws incredible, ate the sixers alive
write reverend dr. jeremy taylor from wisdom university and ask him why he hates God so much he stole the God spoken name ministry of dreams to ruin prophet like reverend antonia vladimirova of dreams, foundation, janetmck, who is janet, mckinght, cluracan who is katie bazor, both like lawrence forman and david shapiro of furcadia, and sistermoonshine13 and her friend utubiaparty1, universalist unitarian minister jeremy taylor Phd has verneral warts and gives you youth from wisdom university
The Blazers were an open-eyed biology students, and the rest of the NBA was frogs just waiting to be dissected. Had it not been for Walton's injury, the Blazers could have tacked on 2-3 more titles. That team will never be forgotten.
I believe what happened was survival of a sport. Here we have a market that had never seen a winner in the Portland/Seattle area and then all of a sudden they are in the finals. Look what team made the finals the next two years.....Seattle. Dr. J was used for the tv ratings and the bookies. I bet the odds had to be 15 to 1 odds for Portland.
Portland did outplay the sixers and thus earned the right to be 1977 nba champs. However, the force was with the blazers that year.Mcginnis slumped nearly the entire series untill game 6(28 points). WORLD BE FREE WAS INJURED UNTILL GAME 7. THE SIXERS LACK OF GOOD COACHING IS EVIDENT WITH CALDWELL AND MCGINNIS TAKING THE BALL DOWN COURT.(YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING!!) I do believe that the sixers very much wanted to win, but they didn't know how.
Team basketball will always beat individualism. Portland played great team basketball. Rick Barry's Golden State Warriors, Larry Bird's Celtics, Magic's Lakers and Michael's Bulls all played great team basketball. The Spurs are now showing it again. I luv this game!
@wrestlingbc12 well David stern just stopped the Chris Paul trade with lakers. What you think now with him doing that?

McGinnis was the REAL power behind the 76ers. He was playing injured during the series. Shame. He didn't heal until the last game.

Just shows how more important teamwork is, compared to individualism. The 2004 finals is pretty much the same story
