I tried to enjoy this movie, but I couldn't stop rolling my eyes at the witty badass remarks. Everyone in prison is just soooo cool. It's hard to enjoy action movies where everyone is "gangster."
To be honest, I loved this movie. And its not because I'm dumb and simple minded like you'd probably assume. Its because this movie is genuinely fun and unbelievable, and it doesn't try to be anything else. That in itself is nice to see. You say big explosions and crazy action scenes don't make a movie. Says who? The movie police? This is an ACTION movie, with hot chicks, cool cars, big guns, and awesome action. It doesn't need a deep story and sappy emotion to be a good show.
My only problem with the movie is that they tried to cash in on the "Death Race" name. Call it anything else and I am fine with it. What if they remade "Pulp Fiction" and the final product did not attempt to match the tone or spirit of the original? But, we do like action films - check out our "Wanted" review. Good points. I don't think you really listened to what we said. We never said anything about deep story or emotions. I love action in movies. But as Mord said, why call a film "Death Race" when it has little to nothing in common with the original, which had action, satire, violence, and humor. This one has some mediocre action and nothing else. -Frank
OK I see what you mean about the title, but what I was getting at was your rating of the movie. You guys gave it a 1 and a 1.5 which I don't think is fair. Sure it had bad dialogue and an unbelievable plot and wasn't like the original which it is "loosely" based on, but it has awesome action, which I thought made up for those shortcomings. It may not have been what you expected style wise from something called "Death Race", but it was still good and doesn't deserve a 1.5. Maybe a 6.5?

This movie wasn't trying to make any special points or be all serious and shit, it was just meant to be entertaining. If you guys can't see that, then you shouldn't be reviewing movies. And horrible cinematography? Come on...
great review. you did a lot of comparison of the original vs remake, and that hasn't been done as much. probably cause not many people has seen the original.
A twist is cool, but when the entire theme of the movie is not related to the original... what's the point of using the name, you know? But I really just think they should ditch this whole remake craze. Too bad it makes a lot of money.
loved it. But chew on this... think about the reality shows that's on TV right now. Now... 4 years ago we would have never thought there would be shows like this on TV. Now advance four more years... and it will seem believable. Plus the races rock.

I knew it was going to be garbage right after I saw the first trailer. They explain the whole story in the trailer and it was a boring 2 minutes. Why would anyone want to see a feature length version of a bad trailer? Also the last two good remakes were The Fly and The Thing.
