  • To the uploader of this video: while you are correct in your assessment of Republican economic policies and the destruction they cause, your implication in the video description that the public debt means that China will one day own us is unfounded.

As Chris Hayes explained while guest-hosting a recent episode of this program, the great majority of American debt is owed by Americans to other Americans. China owns about eight percent (8%) of it, or 1.1 trillion of the $14 trillion debt.

  • Tax cuts do grow the economy. So does government spending. That's why the economy is improving right now, they have kept taxes low and pumped money in to deal with the recession. They should'nt have cut taxes so drastically though, even a couple percent has a big effect. Can't believe he lowered their tax rates 20%.

  • lol all this video did is prove Reaganics worked. I like how its so hard for liberals to admit it worked. They're always saying things like, "but... it was... um bad in the long run... (even though we didn't have an economic collapse until 2008)" They never explain how a rise in wealthy income is a bad thing lol someone needs to retake economics

  • @OverseerJames The top class got tons of money Middle class shrunk. This is somehow a good thing?Trickle down theory never works. After eight years of Clinton we had a surplus.

  • Regan was a joke

  • i want to destroy all Republican politicians

  • The reason for the latest global financial crises is that wages are too low. Wages in most of the world has been stagnate for the last 30-40 years. In fact in the US (and even in China) the average wage has fallen. The reason for that is because fat cats and shareholders want larger and larger profits and they also need to constantly reinvest in their company/product to protect themselves against competition from their business rivals.

Low wages = low demand. Capitalisms catch 22.

  • @alieighty other words...trickle UP economics! spread the word, buddy

  • @asdfqwervd Exactly! Wealth does not trickle down - it bubbles up! There is no such thing as a self made man. Every 'self made' millionaire needed somebody to work for him and somebody to buy from him.

  • Comment removed

  • @alieighty i believe that everyone needs to work hard...and work to their abilities or maybe a little beyond but under this current economic regime, the top sucks up so much wealth, it's not possible for the bottom to work hard enough. i mean...there has to be some labor rights and human rights involved too, and people should realize that. We cannot compete against a country that violates human rights and labor rights, like China. yet American corporations/CEOs love hiring China.

  • Tax cuts raised the National debt? Does Rachael Maddow know that debt comes from spending and that there is a congress with two parties?

  • @LURKUMALL Google "national debt without bush tax cuts"

  • Continuing my prior comment. The reason Raising taxes on the rich won't solve our issues is because government spending is very high, and government spending almost always exceeds tax receipts.. That's the problem, massive government spending kills the tax code, whether is tax cuts and tax hikes. The best solution is Cutting taxes and cutting government spending.. Otherwise republicans and democrats policies will fail.

  • @jaimepanama NO ONE has claimed it would fix it. So why are you assuming that? That's your mistake. Secondly, though it will not fix it but it will help. To think that we shouldn't raise taxes on the richest after knowing it doesn't do anything but take from people that work paycheck to paycheck if they can get a job in the first place is really stupid.

  • What Rachel Maddow doesn't explain is what happenned to Government Spending during the Reagan Years??? She just assumes that Giving tax cuts automatically increases the deficit and the national debt. In order for tax cuts to really work, there needs to be a systematic reduction in government spending, otherwise it will be a failure as it was during Reagan. The same applies on the side of Obama, raising taxes on the rich won't solve the income gap in society as long as government spending keep up

  • reagan dealt arms to our enemy Iran following their taking of our embassy and arranged to have them keep the hostages hostage until he got into office. I consider reagan a traitor if not just for the arms deal, then the two things put together should have had him in prison stripes.

  • Gee, do you think you could fit any more cliches into that comment? You are the 10,000th leftist I've spoken with that does not have a single original thing to say. Thanks for not breaking the streak!

Oh, and go easy on those psychoactive drugs.

  • Trickle down only works in a simplistic conservative mind.. (it has never worked at any level)

  • All of these numbers are dishonestly "doctored" to support the premises of the host.

This is nothing by lying propaganda. But it has been very effective at convincing simple people who do not have enough knowledge to decipher this sort of sophistry.

This sort of lying propaganda is TEARING THE COUNTRY APART. It will lead to the takeover of America by tyrants. I hope you leftist maggots are proud of yourselves. I'm sure you are.

  • @UncleIrv Liberals are willing to here the other side what is it? What is doctored give clear examples . ? General statements are not helpful in debate

  • @keyokeyo59

    One example:

INDIVIDUAL income went UP under Reagan. But liberals always attempt to deceive by using the contrived statistic "HOUSEHOLD income."

"Household income" is a deceptive number, because the size of households fluctuate IN INVERSE RELATIONSHIP to the size of individual incomes. When incomes are high, individual incomes tend to become spread out over more "households," making the "household income" appear lower. This is a proven economic fact.

  • @UncleIrv leftist maggots? is that anything like right wing neo nuts blindly following clueless leaders that have been systematicy destroying america for profit? is is like that or.... ??? (leftest maggots.. sounds like a heavy metal band LOL)

  • @26yearstoorion

The issue is honesty. I would not call these people "leftist maggots" if they at least used honest statistics to convey their argument. Instead, I consistently catch them deceiving the public with sophistry and propaganda.

No one I personally support is "destroying america for profit." Unless perhaps you subscribe to a Marxist world view based on twisted definitions.

"Leftist maggots"? Yeah, that would be a good band name. I think I'll use it...

  • @UncleIrv suck my dick ya right wing puss........use dat dick head, now get back to fox news

  • @rickbar123

Sorry to deny your homoerotic fantasy, but no thanks.

    Get back to your crayons.

  • @UncleIrv I will get back to da crayons when I get done with your mom.

  • I have always been a Republican, but during the Obama presidency, my financial situation is better than ever, The companys that I work for, will not hire any more employees, because they fear unknown costs and regulations of the Democrates healthcare law, it's cheaper for them to give me their work, and pay my overtime wages, Obama creating uncertainty for job creators, has had a Reagan like trickle down effect, that only benifits me, I hope Obama gets another term, I like the job security!

  • @federalwarhawk Bullshit. Corporations will not hire because they see no demand. Corporations have offshored good paying jobs to low wage countrys and know full well that demand in America is tied to wages. America is now -low wage. Our health care sucks dick thanks to greed. Go back to Fox news for more bullshit talking points.

  • TRICKLE DOWN.... an obvious oxymoron to those who have been paying attention and a Republicans afterbirth that was not aborted!

  • Wow. You're pretty dumb. Reaganomics is the best economic theory ever.

  • we need to feed the rich so we can eat their poo

    it's called trickle down

  • @YOURIN You leftists are blind as fuck. If I were forced to pay more taxes OK OK I will just lay off A FEW THOUSAND EMPLOYEES! you liberals and communist fuckers have no idea what you are talking about. SINCE OBAMA TOOK OFFICE THERE WAS NO IMPROVEMENTS IN THE ECONOMY AND THE DEFICIT CRISIS EXPLODED! 8.3% unemployment, yea EXACT same as when Obama the socialist took office. yea great improvement that was. You keep with your BIAS BULLSHIT, but with this communist/socialist cunt in office whatever.

  • @Scattnam I'm not even going to comment on how fu*king ignorant what you just posted is.. (oop's jus' did :-p)

  • @26yearstoorion Braindead leftist shit. Why don't you go watch "zietgiest" seems so many liberals like them go to their video, retard.

but these forums are reserved for those who can think, those who understand what god wanted us to do. A free market economy. Give the wealthy taxes and you are GARANTEED a job. Maybe you liberals are too blind to understand logic. But what can I expect from a liberal Democrat!

  • @Scattnam Your comment is a excellent example of a failed party and the ignorance of it's supporters... list all those 'magic' jobs that were created along with the smaller government that resulted! *then go back and get the facts from a independent source that lists the facts void of bullshit. Liberal? you bet your ass i am just as those patriots were that built this country... *truth's a motherfucker for Republicans LOL

  • @26yearstoorion OK DIPSHIT EXPLAIN WHY UNEMPLOYMENT WENT FROM 19.5% DOWN TO 1.6% DURRING THE REAGAN YEARS? HUH?/ LITTLE CUNT?

You obamabots are delusional. Socialism is corrupt!!!!!

funny how you libtards talk abotu overpopulation but when we the conservatives suggest global 1 child policy YOU FUCKS QQ ABOUT IT BEING CRUEL! fuck being humane im sick of dis shit!

  • @Scattnam There are more Republicans abusing social programs by percentages than anyone else... *suck on that

  • @Scattnam Oh boy.... another brilliant 'fact checkers' post here, we are all so fortunate to be allowed to exist within his magnificent presence.. Wow... i'm never going to wash my eyes again after what they have just read.

  • @26yearstoorion About time I find a liberal who came to his senses, its about time you finally checked your own facts before posting. I am absolutely right about Reagan, he was a hero, will be a hero and will always be. I look forward millions of years from now staring up at a statuette of him. Humanity will embrace his ideas of a free market and trickle down economics.

  • @Scattnam Oh... and anytime you want to sit down and take a IQ exam just let me know, we can share the results online for the amusement of your old milwaukee swilling neanderthal friends amusement :-p

  • Private property sucks, long live the collective!!! /

  • @1stBrillo typical leftist socialist/commy totaltarian piece of shit you are. Go to Russia you fucklet.

  • @Scattnam i served my country (under reagan, sadly)so morons like you could spew your hate..you need to get out of your parents basement and go get one of those chinese jobs reagan shipped off.

  • Government spending as a percentage of GDP is what is important. Clinton and Reagan did well by this measure.... but Congress controls spending... not the president.

If you want to understand this stuff, read Smith's Wealth of Nations, Friedman's Monetary History, Rothbard's America's Great Depression, and Keynes' General Theory.

  • Regan not as bad as bush but still bad president.

  • BOING!!

  • @WilliamTPrince And, actually, to say that there isn't much difference between a libertarian and a republican isn't entirely accurate. Republicans are usually defined as being for small government from an economic perspective, which is something they share with Libertarians; however, we differ in that Republicans favor larger government from a social standpoint. Libertarians are small government and high personal liberty all across the board.

  • @WilliamTPrince First of all, I provided actual arguments and pointed out problems with this video; I'm all for rational discourse, but Maddow's blatantly dishonest behavior warrants criticism.

Second, to compare relatively mild words like 'fool' and 'nonsense' to altering names in ways like 'Faux news' (don't get me wrong, I don't have any love for Fox either) isn't accurate. You don't exactly see me calling her 'Rachel Madcow' like many people do, do you?

  • @WilliamTPrince First of all, I'm not a republican; I'm a libertarian.

Second, in each of your posts, you didn't even try to make an argument. All you did was throw around some trite, meaningless pejoratives that don't contribute to the discussion in any way.

Once you have something of substance to say, get back to me.

  • As others have pointed out innumerable times, Rachel has soundly demonstrated that she possesses no integrity whatsoever. From slandering one of the greatest presidents of the twentieth century to making brazen self contradictions, I feel genuinely sorry for the fools who are duped by this sort of nonsense.

  • Neither side helped America in fact both contributed to it's decline. The Democrats pushed so far left in the 1970s ex taxes, busing, affimative action that it created a backlash that resulted in Reagan's victory. In the 1980s, Reagan pushed deregulation to far especially in the financial Industry that it created the Savings and Loan scandal. We won the Cold War but left us with a large debt. Both the Democrats and GOP have failed America

  • The entire video is riddled with lies and misstatements.

  • wait a second... 'across the board tax cut of 25%"... "cutting taxes especially for the richest Americans... from 75% to 50%".... wait that sounds like the across the board tax cut... you biased cunt

  • if we all say FUCK WORK then the rich will suffer because the 90% of people like me and you RUN this country. and the whole world would go into a robbing unlawful infamous battleground of helplessness. civilization vs government vs 1% that is when humanity destroys itself just to be equal

  • The rich: giving us a golden shower.

  • Thank you Rachel.

  • The beginning of the end of the American Middle Class. There you go again!

  • what she fails to mention that under Reagan the U.S had one of the largest economic booms in history and that revenues actually increased after the tax cuts. The only reason that there was a deficit is because spending increased dramatically due to the arms race which we one in large part due to Reagan. And for anyone who says that there was huge growth after WW2 when there was high taxes that's because we didn't have any competition most of the manufacturing around the world had been destroyed.

  • Wait. Liberals don't like Ronad Reagan? I'm shocked!

  • @tommvaughan

Yeah, and they're not fond of telling the truth either! This video contains contradictions galore - self contradictions to boot. How can you have an across the board tax cut that is not across the board to favor the rich? Did Rachael flunk math, logic or both?

  • Job creators by the rich lol... Yet the engine of our economy is small biz.. Last I looked small biz owners are losing their asses too..

  • The difference between now and then. NOTHING!! We still have a Republican President, except this one pretends to be a Democrat.

  • Hmmm, not too many people are being employed by the commodity futures contracts, bonds, and derivatives. The "job creators" are getting favorable tax rates on those, by the way. The "Job Creator" line works on the uneducated redneck bible thumping base who don't understand...but they vote.

  • Wooo watching video like this just make me want to kill somebody (whos a rich republican that.)

  • how many americans don't pay taxes...46%. yea i wish i had opportunities to make more money, but I'm not going to force someone to pay for my lifestyle(excluding of course the corrupt politicians and bankers, they are financial terrorists)

  • end the fed

  • No matter what you think the middle class is getting screwed.

  • she is failing to mention is that investors from other parts of the world bought out American manufacturing; our lost technology that made a big impact on the Global economy (you know Microsoft) which made America a huge exporter once again until Bill Clinton dressed up in China’s cloths and signed trade agreements with China to outsource all our jobs. (That’s where your pay and wages went!) that's where white collars workers make money and when your job was outsource, they all got raises

  • AMERICA ISNT BROKE RIGHT WINGERS ARE JUST DESTROYING THE MIDDLE CLASS WE ARE BEING LIED TO

  • @MrMrbobblehead When we hand trillions over to banks, automotive and energy giants- then print money to pay our bills. We are broke, because we are destroying the value of dollars it is a hidden tax. It is not the rich that invest in the strength of the dollar either... Just because the government is allowed to do something it would find illegal for people to do- does not mean it is gonna last forever or the rest of the world is gonna sit by and do nothing about it.

  • @MrMrbobblehead no kidding. tax cuts for the top 0.1%, 2 unfunded wars...just to name 2!

  • the rich dont even care bout taxes it just dumb ass rednecks that dont want to admit a black president is doing a good job

  • Their should be a law against getting richer

  • Since Reagan tax both the middle class & the lower class 11 times, let's do it on them!

  • trickle down theory only works if society is competitive. If you lefties have a better theory, please spill it. Taxing the rich doesn't work either, because it causes them to want to leave the country, and open up plants in china. The super rich are the ones who are leaving because they can afford to open up these new plants.

  • @cassidy408 Wrong. Companies produce elsewhere because of the lower wages they have to expend, not taxes. This is a greater cost on any major company's balance sheet. American companies that produce elsewhere, and yet want to sell here in the #1 world market, should then have to pay even higher taxes. If people won't buy their products because of the cost passed on, thae maybe those companies should reconsider producing elsewhere.

  • @YOURINQUIRER WRONG. The main 2 reasons companies relocate elsewhere is TAXES and ignorant REGULATIONS. Both are caused by leftists. You post is completely crushed by the fact that Toyota, Honda, VW, and BMW have built plants in...the USA. They built them in the South, though, because southerners are harder workers and don't unionize. EPI FAIL for you fool. Learn economics. BTW the biggest peacetime expansion was under Reagan, even Clinton said so.

  • @YOURINQUIRER This video is all lies. Her stats are blatantly wrong and easily exposed on google. BTW, Tip O'Neill is the reason for the debt explosion. Reagan sent 6 balanced budgets out of 8 FACT. Tip O'neill (using taxpayer dollars as his own re-election device) INCREASED spending saying that Reagan's budgets were "Dead on arrival." HMMMMMM, seems lefties are big liars.

  • Comment removed

  • @YOURINQUIRER Yeah! Fuck companies that produce elsewhere by exploiting foreign workers including children, and screw up the environment while they're at it! Some people are so greedy and have no sense of moral responsibility, I don't understand it.

  • @YOURINQUIRER exactly..well spoken

  • @cassidy408 Republican President Eisenhower had taxes on the wealthy at over 90% and we had the biggest peacetime expansion in US history. We created the American middle class. Bill Clinton raised taxes and we enjoyed one the best economic periods of the 20th Century including 23 million new jobs. George Bush lowered taxes and he had the worst job creation record since Herbert Hoover: 3 million new jobs in 8 years. Obama did better than that in 2 years (non government, BTW).

  • @YOURINQUIRER Totally ignoring that if you used the same tax code under Eisenhower the "1%" paid less (factored with inflation) then vs now in reality, you can set any marginal number you want but if the rest of the tax code super cedes that- its irrelevant. They had even more corrupt loopholes for the wealthy back then. During the clinton era we were busy inflating the housing bubble, of course there was jobs- and inevitably it blew up. I guess this time- that is the next guys problem...

  • @EgadsNo I venomously hate neocons- and democrats typically amuse me, but since the 80's we have been a military keynesian empire. Creating bubbles, printing money- war mongering, selling out the safety of our food and land- so corporatist can make more money. This has been BOTH SIDES! Stop fighting the other side and take a look at our entire government. Stop fighting over what method to treat symptoms is best- while offering no solutions to treat the disease of corporatism.

  • @YOURINQUIRER In 1930, America's population was a spec of what it is today, so don't give absolute numbers on job creation and compare it to Obama's, how about percentages? Companies outsource due to increased user cost, which include depreciation, labor cost, (impicit (unions) and explicit), and taxes.

From an idealogical standpoint, I can agree with you, but microeconomic and world macro models are screaming that you're wrong, and that such policy limits human welfare. Show your model?

  • @YOURINQUIRER Actually, according to the National Bureau of Economic Research and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the largest peacetime expansion in US history occured between December 1982 and July 1990; a year after Reagan entered office, to a year after he left.

The jobs 'created' by Bill Clinton were in part due to the tech bubble that existed at the time, besides the fact that his policies were a primary cause of the housing bubble that further contributed to the illusion of prosperity.

  • @YOURINQUIRER Spending was really low in the 1950s and in WW2 the top rate was 94%. The Republicnas taking over congress in 1994 was the reason that Clinton did so well. And Clinton did cut Capital Gains taxes 8% and created the child tax credit.

  • @YOURINQUIRER Those numbers are nothing but a bunch of bullshit. Firstly Obama did not create jobs. DUMBFUCK. we LOST JOBS in the private sector while Obama tries to expand the government with his bullshit "Lets fix up the schools, lets fund renewable green shit". I don't understand you liberal hippies with your "we must protect the planet and destroy the economy" yea whatever, keep drinking that socialist koolaid, hows it doing for ya?

  • @Scattnam No your wrong!! Obama added more jobs that Bushey!! talk about drinking Kool aid

  • @sandratv46

You are clearly under the influence of psychoactive drugs.

Obama added jobs? Under even the most skewed liberal numbers, Obama presided over a net loss of over 1.5 million jobs. And that is using highly skewed liberal numbers. The actual total is much higher when you use U4, U5 or U6 numbers.

But you're a Kool-Aid drinking Obama-tron, so I expect this fact to bounce right off your brain like a super-ball hitting concrete.

  • @UncleIrv nice hate fest... where were your 'whitty' comments while G.W. (Dubya) was screwing america over? (don't ask don't tell? )

  • @UncleIrv There is an old saying, "never try to reason with an idiot" so I won't attempt to. And I don't take psychactive drugs. But obviously anybody as disconnected from reality as you appear to be must be on something. Let me guess, you get your information from Faux News. If you just want to trade insults that's fine too you stuttering gun totin hillbilly. I bet you think the GOP is actually sypathetic to your needs as a taxpaying citizen. I'd ask you to think again but....

  • @Scattnam your an idiot on your best day

  • @Scattnam as your potential 'intelligence' trickled down your daddys leg? (The disease of republicanism is curable! *think...)

  • @YOURINQUIRER excellent comment :-) *nothing to add :-p

  • @YOURINQUIRER

No wealthy person paid 90% income tax in Eisenhower's time. The tax code was full of loopholes. And Clinton came into office with a soaring economy. All of you don't want to face the fact that the strong economy in the 90s had to do with Clinton's predecessors. And yes, Bush inherited a recession from Clinton, and another financial crisis began at the end of his presidency due to government intervention in the housing market causing a bubble.

  • @s9z9s Wow.. as a 'job provider' through those years you speak of i'll have to call your statement bullshit buddy, Clinton was handed another one of those Republican fuck ups and turned it around... then G.W. screwed us again .. and again.. nice, trickle yourself somewhere safe OK..

  • @26yearstoorion

You're going to have to give me specifics. What fuck up was Clinton handed? What did he do to turn the apparent fuck up around? What was it specifically that George Bush did to screw things up?

  • @YOURINQUIRER

Convenient how you leftists totally ignore whatever facts necessary.

The ONLY reason economic growth was so great under Eisenhower---no matter what his tax rate---is the fact the THE ENTIRE INDUSTRIAL CAPACITY OF MOST OF EUROPE AND ASIA WAS UTTERLY DESTROYED IN THE WAR.

The US had a massive influx of workers (returning soldiers), a massive increase in demand (no more war) and NO COMPETITION WHATSOEVER. We supplied the world for 15 years while they rebuilt.

  • @YOURINQUIRER Nice... but telling this to a conservative is useless unless you throw in a few multi colored graphs in crayon :-p

  • @cassidy408 People were worried about globalization for decades before the Great Depression. Matters reached a head in the 1920s when it was at the forefront of everyone's mind. We fixed the problem, not by imposing tariffs, which just made things worse, but by rebuilding our lost middle class and yes, taxing the rich more.

Ironically, when we moved dollars from the asset bubbles of the roaring 20s back into the real economy of production and consumption, the exchange rate fixed itself too.

  • @cassidy408 People open factories in China because of Reagan's free trade.

  • @cassidy408 How can you be "super rich" and not afford to be able open up new plants? What does work?

  • @cassidy408 Let the rich leave. See ya, have a nice trip. Get the products made in low wage countrys off America's shelfs. Old Ron was very big on closing markets and protection of markets, at least for his friends.

  • @cassidy408 can't afford??? LOL...IDIOT!!!

  • @cassidy408 Let the super rich leave, they're just not taking the money with them! =)

  • meh im not sure why no one is taking into accounting inflation.. war. and outsourcing jobs which is a problem because fucks up the flow of money in our country.

  • @yeahzeeroo Contrary to what Ron Paul is telling you controlling inflation IS PART OF THE PROBLEM - things are WORSE under MONETARISM - THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT THE LIBERTARIANS CLAIMED. Wars are fought for the RICH, and outsourcing is an argument against free markets WHAT THE WHICH WANT AND WHAT REAGAN DELIVERED...

  • This woman is an idiot. Sorry, but it is true. Social Security, medicare and medicaid, are 57% of the budget right now. Cmon, add in welfare and there you go.

This isnt about the evil rich demons that have all the money (no such thing), its about how the democrats (im not republican) installed the income tax (1913), Social Security(1937), Medicare & medicaid (1965). These are the problems. Government controlling our elderly health, retirement, and handout healthcare too? Your fault

  • @OffTheGlass87 WTF? STOP WATCHING FOX NEWS YOU LOON... RON PAUL/LIBERTARIANS ARE INSANE WAKE UP... To TRASH you idiocy in one question:

WHERE DID THE MIDDLE CLASS COME FROM AND WHY - and DONT GUESS...

  • We have to give rich people all the money, or they won't give the rest of us jobs.

  • almost the entire gov't hates and despises the 80%. they hate us because they are not beholden....ask yourself, how MANY politicians don't cozy up to the rich? All politicians go to RICH FOLKS FUNDRAISERS. Most politicians (especially GOP/Conservatives) are in the back pockets of the 0.1%. We need to rise up.

  • i have nothing against rich people...but when you get rich by stealing (i.e. bankers) this is despicable. Yet, the country has no laws to punish such doers. Now these bankers just piss on us and laugh at us from their mighty buildings while we protest on the streets below. And tax cuts....tax cuts are the devil.

  • @dalecampbl9 We would not need a law to prevent bankers from receiving trillions in bailouts- if we never gave them the power have a position to claim for them. It was regulations that entitled them- we told them to make bad bets and if a problem happened we would split the bill, because the public was soo sure it was gonna help the economy and our society. Same with automotive and energy. Creating a regulation ALWAYS creates power to be abused.

  • @EgadsNo has it ever occurred to you that "regulation" can be good or bad.. Just because the GOP wanted BAD regulation doesn't make the concept of "regulation" bad. Same with government...the GOP government sucks and causes bubbles and great depresisons...but that doesnt mean the idea or implementation of a government is bad. By the way...you have proof that government coerced the banks into giving mortgages to people without any risk assessment? If so, was it a GOP coercion?

  • The rich had more money to invest in chinese child slaves.

  • @MrAppleseed88 they sure the fuck did not invest in the USA

  • then we slammed into the deepest recession we have ever seen form 1980-1986

  • The sad truth is we neer fully did away with Reaganomics. All of Reagan's successor's Republican and Democratic alike in one way or another continued those policies. We need to put an end to these fucked up economic polices.

  • They never tell you why it didn't work, they just imply a nebula notion of greed.

  • Reagan. Can anyone trust him ? He was an actor before !!

  • Let's all get trickled down upon!

  • Trickle down? Hell, your cup runneth over.

  • The primary reason for the increase in debt was to win the cold war. Rachel accidentally puts the figures for national debt in billions, but it's really trillions (I think). Anyway, although debt increased to 2.6 trillion, wealth increased by 17 trillion.

  • Rachel says around 5:28 that debt tends to increase as tax revenue decreases, however, correct me if I'm wrong, but according to statistics, tax revenue increased from $599 billion in 1981 to $909 billion in 1988. So revenue increased.

  • It's also important to note that Rachel is using "family income", but as Thomas Sowell points out, although family income may stagnate, the size of families was also decreasing. The only valid indicator would be individual income level, and see how that changes.

  • What you must admit though is that even though the rich got much richer, the middle class also went up a little. This is important because many are under the false assumption that because the rich get richer, the poor automatically get poorer.

Now, upon more careful analysis, we would probably discover a lot of flaws in Rachel's argument, but what I'm saying is based on what she is presenting here.

  • @phil8888 In addition, we went from 13% unemployment in 1981-1982 down to 5%. So about 8% of the nation that had no jobs and were earning zero, were now employed (1983-forward) and earning 100% more than they were while unemployed.

Also not included in the equation is the huge uptick in immigration over the last 30 years, about 1.2 million per year, mostly poor and unskilled when they arrive. That deceptively brings down the wage and poverty curve.

  • Yeah, lets build our economy based off the strategy of a hollywood actor!

  • i dont think anyone won with reaganomics because of the dollar devalued in 10 years, poorest not only received the same but with worthless dollar they bought more because things got cheaper because they moved the industry out of the usa since the 80s witch was what the rich wanted less taxes and slave labour, if there was any improvements on usa economy was because of science and slave labour low cost products not poltics

  • ifm you give tax cuts to the rich they will say thank you spend it on other rich bussyness owners and move their biz out of america to slave labour countrys to make more money from us economy since nixon wall street took over the usa and presidents have been choosen one by one and controlled they do whats better for the 1% not the rest

  • Sounds Luke the BS Obama says. Make people believe then they pull the plug.

  • Ronald Reagan = worst president in history.

  • Reagan was nothing but a shill for Big Business. Only months after gaining the presidency he declared "Open Season" for Union Busters. It was a flat-out criminal conspiracy in which the government said to business: "Just go ahead and break the law, we won't stop you. We won't enforce The 1935 National Labor Relations Act or Wagner Act." which gives working people the right to organize, and to collectively bargain. I'm proud that I never voted for Reagan, because I knew he'd screw the workers!

  • Reagonomics destroyed the middle class and the middle class still loves him. Too bad the middle class doesn't like unions anymore. The middle class is their own worst enemy. 8 years of Reagan then another 4 of Bush. Another 8 of Clinton who allowed NAFTA and the repeal of banking regulations then 8 more years of Bush Jr. Who's really to blame?

  • Obamanomics sucks nuff , go look at any stats you want to

  • @lowslowflyer77

    No such thing.

  • @lowslowflyer77 Obamanomics is Reaganomics. War deficit spending. Slashing social services. Bailing out the rich. Deregulation. This is farther than Reagan ever got and this is the result.

  • @michalchik Maybe because the Republicans are forcing Obama to do their bidding, sadly enough. This isn't Obama's economics, but the Republicans. If they don't agree with his policies, they just hold their feet and let Obama take the blame.

  • @toverkleet I agree that it does not match his stated goals, but it just does not seem like he is trying. In fact there are many times he starts with a proposal that is already a republican proposal. There are other times he could do things by executive order (like negotiate for drug prices or end DADT) and he hands it over to congress and turns it into their issues. He issues no signing statements, does no recess appointments. He is an appeaser and a wimp or a Trojan horse.

  • dishonesty reigns supreme, and you must rewrite history before you can change logic of which she has none ,but rabid fans who want to believe that self reliance is bad. When Obama is thru we are going to have to spend alot or maybe fight a real war overseas because of his neglect and incompetence HE IS JIMMY CARTER 2.0

  • Comment removed

  • She must not remember how bad the 70s where.

    It was already going down.

  • Poor republcans would rather starve to death then admit that the "Give it all to the rich" doesn't work. Way to screw your own family over.

  • I agree with TheSkunkCat. The claim that tax cuts shift a 'burden' from the rich to the poor is false. In 1999, the bottom 50% of taxpayers paid 4% of all taxes, while the richest 5% paid 55%. In 2008 the bottom 50% paid 3% of all taxes while the top 5% paid 59%. In 2007, 38% of the population paid ZERO income tax; in 2009, 47% of the population paid no income tax! The lesson: Those redistributive politicians who rob Peter to pay Paul... can count on Paul's vote!

  • @bjusticeUr are right, and it makes absolute sense when you CONSIDER that the bottom 80% of Americans hold only 15% of the nations wealth! The top 1% a very very small fraction of the population hold nearly HALF of the nation's wealth. While the following 19% hold about 35%. So ur tax numbers although correct always seem absurd to us until of course u illustrate why.

  • Here's the solution for the US.

    TAX THE FUCKING RICH ALREADY!

  • @TheSkunkCat

Bretton woods collapsed for a reason.

  • @TheSkunkCat replace tax with kill

  • @TheSkunkCat we did that and guess what happened business went overseas! and out sourcing and off shoring is more prominent like never before now

  • The true guineas of this system is that they somehow got most of the people in the lower and middle class to fight for the right to continue such a system because it was the “The American Way” lol… blown away by the philosophy… guineas!!

  • @TheSkunkCat They are the only ones with all the money...

  • Never vote for anyone who doesn't believe in the "We The People" represented government, just like you wouldn't go to a doctor who hates medicine.

    It's IDIOTIC!

  • America has produced garbage since Reagan. Everything that was good about America, and what these morons reminisce about, was created by Liberals from the 40s -70s and selfservatives or the "squares" had nothing to do with it and once they did, this 80s- 00s era was a complete disaster. Our cars became cheap, our architecture uninspired, our infrastructure, that Liberals built, trashed!

  • Selfservatives are inept and complete air-headed failures, they prove it time and time again. They survive only by greed like a vicious primitive animal, always angling and sneaky. They are against civilization because they are animals. They don't understand evolution cause they are not evolved.

  • what a Liberal tool. Reagan and Calvin Coolidge used trickle economics and our country was at the top. His spending was for our defense, so we don't get nuked by Soviet Union. I would rather have the debt go up, I don't want people dying. 1962 they said missles could kill 50 million americans. Ya go back to big government with Carter and Clinton has a recession in late 90's he took 1.1 trillion dollars of social security

  • @TheDoctordetroit

You really love being fucked over by the rich don't you?

    Stupid tool.

  • @TheSkunkCat One your a huge tool that has no Idea what he is talking about. I think Barack Obama is ruining the middle class more that George Bush and Ronald Reagan did combined! I would rather be alive with governmental debt than dead, go ahead do the nuclear freeze like the democrats wanted to do back in the 80s how did that work out. Ronald Reagan made our country safer, stronger, economically better and more sucure than JFK, LBJ, Nixon, Ford, and Carter combined. 16.5 million jobs created

  • @TheSkunkCat Under Reagan, he made jobs for the middle class. I know you have to go get your welfare because your lazy and won't get a job. He saved our country from tyranny and Jimmy Carter, and your upset? The top 1 percent pays 33 of all the taxes in America. the top 10 percent pays 57 percent of the taxes. 90 percent pays 43 percent I think you can handle it

  • Hey skunk, you forgot one important statistic, 80% of americans control less then 16% of the wealth, I'm guessing you did this purposely to support your republican hero reagan. IF trickle down economics works, then how come almost every big corporation in this country is making RECORD profits, and the unemployment rate is going up. Let me guess, because Obama wants to give healthcare, sure.

  • @TheDoctordetroit You really are not bedazzling me with numbers here. It is what you leave out that matters. How about you also include the earnings of the top 1% as well. Oh, and I am not on welfare just in case you want to throw that old battered argument at me. I think I probably am richer than you.

  • @TheDoctordetroit thats decieving and to be more specific the top 1% hold nearly 50% of the nations wealth, Next 19% hold 35%, WHILE 80% OF US AMERICANS SPLIT UP 15%. That's approx 280 million of us fighting over scraps. To simplify, Out of 10 cheeseburgers 1 person has 5 burgers, 2 have 3.5 burgers while 8 people have to share 1.5 burgers and you want to tax the 8 people!

  • @oully1531 Did he ever say that he wants to tax the 8 people? How about the government cut spending, and then we can tax EVERYONE less.

  • @TheDoctordetroit Wake the hell up, Coporate America has left most americans sharing the same bun while wall street execs were literally eating $25,000 cheeseburgers for lunch!!!!!!!!

  • @TheDoctordetroit

And yet as oully1531 pointed out, it's the top 1% that holds a lot more wealth then anyone below them.

So tell me how is it smart to tax those with the LEAST amount of wealth more and the those with the most less?
