no hiss sense of hearing must be on another LEVEL .. he must be able to here a pin drop because for him to play the drum at that speed ..THAT WELL ... is simply unheard of the man is simply genius ....just genius !
he just has a great feeling for playing drums,i don't know if his blindness has something to do with it,it's like an extra 'sense'....it's incredible, he is not even known as a drummer!!
@metalboto Yes he is, everybody know that Stevie played most instruments & especially drums on most of his albums! Marvin Gaye was another fantastic drummer.
i wish i was born around this era. real music back then, with good lyrics, not always about freaking sex, drugs and money. and the music was fun, not for grinding.
Talk about underrated drummers...Stevie Wonder is better than most drummers I see out there today. A true jazz drummer if I ever saw one. Without eye sight makes him near number one IMO.
even though he's blind I still find it impressive because he's already a pianist a singer and he is exceptionally well on the drums. He nailed some pretty intricate nice fluid patterns down with style. not bad at all
@esparza8888 Here are just some of the instruments that Stevie Wonder can play, piano, organ, synths, clavinet, harpschord, accordion, drums, percussion instruments, bass guitar, harp. Stevie Wonder is responsible for synthesizers reproducing authentic sounding instruments like piano, organ, strings,& drums. Just as important,if not more, weighted keys on electronic keyboards also came from the mind of Stevie Wonder! Read about it on the Kurzweil music site!
I'm only 30 y.o., so I missed out on Hendrix, Miles, Zappa, and Marley, but I'm lucky enough that I got to see B.B. King and Stevie Wonder live.... I can die happy.
I always wanted to drum my entire life, it's just something that's in my blood but unfortunately I've never had the possibility. I always listened to music and drum solo's and the amount of rubbish that's out there almost completely destroyed my will to start drumming whatsoever. I never found the thing (call it rythm, feeling whatever) in drumming, so I was deeply dissappointed. When I saw Stevie perform his drum solo's I finally found what I was looking for, so now I know that it is possible!
I wanted to drum from 13, but never had the space for a kit. I used to tap on tables at school and in work for ages. When I left home, I went to a local rehearsal room at age 20 and played on a kit there a couple of hours, two days a week. Two months later I was drumming in a band, and a year later I was doing some flashy solo parts that I never thought I'd be able to do it, so you can do it, no matter what age you are.
@Renderclippur dude youve been listening to the wrong drummers!! I completely agree with you that there are so many crappy drummers and drum solos out there because those drummers dont play from the heart and soul. Stevie is pouring his heart in this solo which is why its so amazing to behold! check out gene krupa, karen carpenter and most other 60's and 70"s drummers and you ll see how amazing those musicians were back in the days. no double peddle or electronics or sturcture!!
@Renderclippur The possibility is always there. Clap your hands, slap them against your thighs and chest. Buy or find some sticks, hit them on everything that can make a noise. Listen to your heart, the rhythm is there!
thats how people who arent self-concious about how they look would perform they're music. just completely into it, with no distractions about tryin to look cool or anything
Stevie Wonder is one of the most talented people I've ever seen, imagine the amount of money he must save in the studio because he doesnt have to hire a drummer or a harmonica player.
