This song is brilliant. Is there anyone else who could come up with a song like this. Maybe Bob Dylan but who else is there? Please tell me because I need to listen to them.
Every time I mention Elvis Costello to anyone my age they always look at me funny and ask me if I meant Presley and am I crazy and who the hell is Elvis Costello. Kids my age are listening to shit like Ke$ha and all I want is to hear some intelligence and wit in the music industry like Mr. Costello. There's honestly no one like him. I'm 17 so I guess it's childish to say "when I grow up I wanna be," but when I grow up I wanna be satirical and smart like him.
@MouthingWords Good on ya kid. You friends will think you're crazy at first, a music snob next, and eventually they'll come to their senses and understand.
This performance is from Spectacle, his show on Sundance. The entire show is fantastic with Kris Kristopherson and John Cougar Mellancamp, as well as Nora Jones and Rosie Cash.
Every episode is worth watching, but this one rocked.
I grew up in Sulphur, Louisiana, so I'm glad to see someone else pick up on this. Sulphur seems to show up in songs more often than it deserves. Steve Earle's got a song that mentions it, too.
Costello can write and sing absolutely anything, which is why he's really the only person who could do this show. He could probably have a Norwegian black metal group on and fit right in with them. He probably shouldn't, but I bet he could.
He wrote it, of course. So raunchy and funny! Elvis is absolutely the best songwriter alive on Planet Earth right now and he just seems to get better and better. I'm pretty sure it will be on Elvis' next album, coming out in the summer of '09.

t'ain't hard... alternating bass on C7, F7, to G. Bridge is E and Am. He's tuned down a whole step which might be throwing you off.

I'm going to pretend that I wrote this song about dealing with the arduous drive from Lake Charles to Lafayette.

Fantastically constructed song. Is this a cover or did he write this himself? I suspect the latter. The guy is really good.
