No question he was one of the most gifted musicians of our time, gifted beyond measure. But he seems deeply conflicted by the "role" of "super rock icon." Its almost as if Kurt hated the "territory" which necessarily came with his tremendous gift; he seemed to be rebelling against his tremendous talent, essentially against himself.

See that's the thing though, there really is very little difference between this and the Beatles music. Kurt Cobain was a Beatles fan and DELIBERATELY tried to write songs with their influence in mind. It's all Rock n' Roll man, all that has been changed is the type of sound we produce from the instruments, while the structure and purpose are generally the same. Terms like "GRUNGE" are almost never coined by the artists themselves, but rather by marketing gurus who just want to make a buck.
