  • Wow thank you soo much!!!! My favorite band Celtic Thunder sang this song and I loved it and I really wanted to know how to play it!! This helped a lot!! Thank you so much! You should do a tutorial on the electric guitar parts.. I don't know how to explain that part.. :) God Bless You!!!

  • Simple, awesome and easy to understand. I've owned a guitar for the majority of 8 years but found it's too frustrating to learn. You broke down the strumming pattern easily as well as the bars and chords so even I can understand it. THANK YOU!!!!

  • @xLostxSou1x Thank you brotha! I really appreciate the kind words.

  • Nice dude, im just having problems with the stumming, but this song is AWESOME!!

    ...i also learned kiss me

  • being from boston and being irish...this is like a local theme song.

    Thanks again for the lesson

    "Celtic rock"

  • this is the way metallica plays it. The traditional style, like the dubliners' cover, is wayy different.

  • Been playing about 5 years myself and love this song-thanks for the lesson, can't wait to practice this today!

  • tell me if its right

    D DU UD

    d=down

    u=up.

  • @And1StreetX

i think there s another up after the last down,

1 (down) 2 (down) and (up) and (up) 4(down) and (up)

  • thank you very much sir, this was extremely helpful. I have some Irish blood in me and this would be a great campfire song to play!

  • What is the tuning?

  • haha i love going irish clubbing, thanks for the tips

  • irish clubbing sounds like some terrible sort of sport

  • awesome! you are best teatcher ever!

  • very good and thanks (im irish)

  • god damn i just started guitar a few months ago and im still stuck on this damn song god this does take a lot of practice..not to mention patience

  • dammit i was looking for the riffs not beginner chords.:( my fault for not reading whole title.

  • Thans man - helped me a lot ;-)

  • Great Lesson dude.

  • isn't it played in D tunning?

  • Only Metallica's cover version is in D. The song is actually in G (at least the Thin Lizzy version - not sure about Dubliners or other variations).

  • thanks man

  • man im irish too ive been hearing it all my life

  • Thank you for your comment.....son124fran. Have had several lads write to say the same.

  • @pauliewanacracker im in agreement here like realy we listen to U.S. music more than our own, and a good version to listen to is thin lizzys cause he puts heart and soul into, as good as metalica are they dint do this well but hey thats just me.

  • dude this is best lesson This song whot I see , awesome

  • ta lindo

  • helped me out cause i was learnin part of this on my own.

  • DDUUDU

  • very good helping me learn fast and effectively

  • The metallica one is played in D standard tuning, and played as power chords. So technically this is closer to the thin lizzy version, but good either way

  • Awesome !! = D

  • this is metallica ?

  • @cawwemagic

    Garage Days Revisited

  • @yourguitarsage Garage Inc actually.

  • @yourguitarsage Not exactly the Metallica version but good nonetheless.

  • @cawwemagic It is Thin Lizzy

  • @cawwemagic no.. -.- the original son is of thin lizzy

  • "I'm sitting on a capo, that's not comfy"...roflmao

  • lol...i know

  • I'm actualy making a progress learning from your lessons :) You're a great teacher,thanks for your time :)

  • Good video

but im irish nd i hav never heard this in the pubs in my local

  • im irish and this is never sung in clubs........... only in small local pubs where they play trad

  • I agree with MrDave bein and irish and all, but you gotta love 'Tallica! \nn/ great vid keep rockin dude

  • cant beat thin lizzy's version

  • i didnt know that, great because i cannot play metallica s version

  • there is plenty o irish clubs

  • hey man nice video i pratice it 3 times and i know how should i play it and now i can play it well thanks 5 *

  • its whiskey in THE jar

  • This is sung in Irish clubs and bars across the world. Great vid, by the way. Thanks for sharing.

  • Greatest line....For those sitting on a capo....Its not comfortable...lol....

  • IRISH CLUBS!!!!! HAHAHA! that actually made me laugh out loud!!! people just crack out a tune in a pub "bar" and all just sing along for the banter.... but still, very good version, will help ma wee sis to learn!

  • ok quick note that there is no irish clubbing it's called going to a pub.

  • Unless you count the taxi ride haha

  • @chrisnixon16 your rite there is no irish clubbing you go to the pub with the lads

  • @chrisnixon16 There use to be a barn dance in my town in Kildare years ago,i wounder if we can class that as Irish clubbing

  • Whiskey in 'THE' jar.. But yur deadly amazin

  • Thin Lizzy's version is the best

  • yeah

  • u rok dude actually i want u to teach me the drapery falls by opeth others i can play

  • what guitar is that

  • it's so bloody simple to play...but i can't sing while playing :(

  • ive got same problem :( Need to practice more and more

  • its not the same as in any other country........

    its better :P

    hon d irish :D

  • just to let everyone know that Irish clubbing is the same as in any other country..

  • same chords as the ones used for unchained melody...

  • Nice little lesson but I would suggest the following modified chord sequence to include another Em and D7 as follows

    line 1 and 2 G Em C G Em

    line 3 and 4 G Em C G Em

So I have added an extra Em at the expense of 1 bar of G

In the chorus I would add one extra chord of D7 at the end

so we have D for Musha ringum etc

the G for whack fol etc C for next hack Fol etc. Then G for There's followed D or D7 for Whisky in the finally G for jar at the end

  • lol"if youre ever irish clubbing"... that sounds dangerous...if you club an irishman he'll club ya back and then some..

  • im irish

  • Man you are the greatest!!!! Thanks very much.

  • Irish Clubbing lol.. is that like regular clubbing but with Shelayleigh's ???

  • brilliant video! i'm only new to the guitar but i learnt this in like a half hour

If you could do The Fields Of Athenry that would be brilliant!!

only thing bout that video is that bit bout it being in an irish club. I'm from Ireland and ya wouldnt be hearing that in the clubs. in the Pubs yeah it'd be going but wouldnt make it into the clubs!!

  • lol i agree with u im also irish, dont really go out but ive never heard it in any clubs lol pubs yess but clubs no!! lol awesome vid guitarsage! ur awesome!

  • thin lizzy is definitely my favourite version of whiskey in the jar, not too fussed on metallicas version.

  • Good call! Thin does a sweet take on this tune...it's almost like they stripped it down to an acoustic version played electrically. Tasty!

  • Thanks for the lessons. Real informative stuff.

  • Great lesson dude ... maybe beacouse it's an easy song ... i've learn it in allmost half an hour (i allready knew the lyrics). Great tutorial 5+ and fav. Keep up the amazing work.

  • Great video...once again.

I love Thin Lizzy's version of this tune. 'Tallica too of course

  • good but sorry im irish and this is not the irish version... listen to the pogues and the dubliners together singing this....seriously its way better than this version...this is rock version

  • great as always! 5*****

btw - you gave "using a capo" a whole new meaning :-)

  • HAHA!!! :) A capo "using" me...

  • Awesome - many thanks.

  • It's a bastardisation of the phrase "whack fol di daddy oh",which is a form of 'mouth music' which is an Irish form of scat singing, which is using sounds rather than actual words.Scat is popular in jazz using sounds like 'do be ooten doo' etc.Irish Mouth Music uses sounds like 'Diddly aye an dooten' and 'skittly aye dum do'

  • Thanks for the insight. I never knew that. Great bit o' trivia!

    :)

    e
