Scientific research in every field has quantitative and qualitative analysis. He has no clue what he is talking about. I suppose that's not a surprise.
Whenever I feel stupid, I just watch the creationist videos on youtube and remember that I'm actually smarter than over 85% of humanity on matters relating to faith.
@Mrmoc7 Not only that, but he calls a Wikipedia article "fascinating."
Have you noticed that every theist "scientific" argument can be effectively deconstructed by anyone who has even a basic grasp of the most elementary scientific concepts? Do you think they realize this, or are they just completely disconnected from reality? In other words, if you systematically explain how every single argument they make is nonsensical, would they comprehend what you're saying? I honestly don't know.
Normal, critical-thinking people look at the evidence before they draw conclusions. Religious people do it the other way. They already have their conclusion, which is unfalsifiable: God exists. Their only duty is to formulate premises which fit that conclusion, and to do that requires that they distort and misinterpret reality, rely on unjustified assumptions, and perpetually dish out circular arguments with their conclusion at the center. Thus, they look stupid.
@Mrmoc7 I wholeheartedly agree. That is what bothers me about creationists and Christian (Or Whatever) Apologetics. They refuse to let go, and that is fine. They can go ahead and fill their minds with BS. What I'm not okay with is how they both, yes both, spread their delusion to others. Creationists want their precious ID(iocy) taught in school. Apologists think that their favorite religion can be rational and defensible (Richard L. Deem comes to mind) and write books to mislead others. Enough!
It's pretty close to that. About 2.5% are atheists, the other 12.5 are just non-religious, according to some obscure study on some obscure internet webpage, but hey, its the best we got so far.
4:20 - 4:30 I want to answer his question. You get the same thing you did during the Dark Ages, or where Religion was the ruler. You get a decrease in science and, wait, hold on, a decrease in life-span? When we got to the Enlightenment, Both changed. Religion was not in control then. Strange huh?
DIdn't VFX's Mommy and Daddy take away his internet priviliges? Ah me. He's gonna go down that road that ends in his destruction or that of others. I'm ok with him doing himself in if that's his choice, but I'm totally against him taking others with him. csbair hit it right on the head. He's learned nothing at all.
Hey PCS might be crazy, but his production value has gone way up since the last time we've seen him here, also he sounds more sane, still a little bit insane, but step by step
@xJoeEDangerouslyx Well if you see his firsts videos, you are like "hey, this guy needs medical attention ASAP" in his new videos you are like "hey this guy is dumb and doesn't understand what the fuck he's saying"
I don't think PCS is a believer, I think that he sees people making a fortune off the back of fundamentalist Christian preaching and wants a piece of the action. He wants to be the next Billy Graham or Pat Robertson but can't be bothered to go do the classes, instead he sees You Tube as a short cut to his ultimate goal, a Mega Church filled with gullible Marks, and a overflowing bank account.
should I like the video because you proved him wrong or should I dislike the video since he is back ... I'm torn apart, Im just gonna vote up coz your awesome :)
5:10 Science can't explain everything. Therefore, we should assume there are gods and other super- or non- or-pseudonatural being that can be detected through other channels than science. Sources like, say, the Bible.
Yeah, there's some good reasoning.
3:49 Having to do science in order to define it, is not circular reasoning. It's just reasoning.
@puncheex It was meant as a sarcastic reenactment of Venom's argumentation. Ask him if you would like to know how he got to the ideas he dish out at 4:20, or what his reasoning is.
science cant explain quality, thats bullshitt. Myabe he should actually do some studying instead of arguing about science he doesnt know anything about, LOL.
wow, following VFX logic I can say - Elves exist, science can't disprove it therefore they really do exist, plus I have many books (more than VFX proving existance of his god) that actually say the did or still do exists so it MUST be truth! Geez, I wonder if he really is That stupid and belives bullshit he sais on his videos...
Well, let's look at what the Bible says in any given situation, and then tell me if VFX's creator is benevolent or malevolent, shall we? Give me a scenario.
i was a believer when i joined youtube, my christian friend told me to watch venomfangx's "awesome" videos...i did so and as a believer i agreed with venomfangx no matter what others told me. But then i started to question my own belief and tried to find facts for some of the claims the bible made and i found none. I eventually stopped believing in god and nowdays i feel retarted whenever i think of the past x) it's very hard to reason with a christian who has already desided that you are wrong
@gallileotheguineapig But crazy people are so entertaining! I mean, why is Jersey Shore so popular right? YouTube seems so empty without VenomFangX...
This video is great. I like how Thunderf00t favorited this yet still employs flawed logic that is clearly distinguished in this video. I applaud you for so clearly demonstrating how science and religion are not mutually exclusive while at the same time showing that scientific discovery must always trump supernatural beliefs. There is nothing wrong with believing something that isn't disproven while at the same time, disbelief in what is proven is foolish.
Man science is unrealiable because its never 100% because things are always getting better! I'll go back to pumping water out of a well and beating my slave.
@skiie "Man science is unreliable because its never 100%"
That is somewhat true epistemically. Do we ever truly KNOW something? Then again, if not science, what is a better alternative to base one's beliefs on? Last I checked, gut feelings are less reliable than science.
@csbair At 1:52 in your video, give or take, you have an extremely beautiful image sourced to NASA/JPL. I was hoping to get a direct link regarding the image, I'd love to find out more about it. Thank you very much for the video. Great work. ^_^
@Ctserber It is linked from an article on NASA's JPL site, titled, "Spitzer Finds Organics and Water Where New Planets May Grow." I'd link directly, but YT won't allow the channel's owner to post links in video comments.
Generally speaking, I liked the images and structure of your rebuttal to VFX. However, at several distinct points in the video, you had plain text against a black background and narration going. I found trying to read the text while listening to the narration distracting and had to pause the playback so that I could read what was being displayed without having my concentration broken by your voice.
PCS reminds me of those hosts of late-night infomercials, trying to sell real estate scams and home marketing programs to the poor folks gullible enough to buy into the scheme.
Yet he gives every indication that he actually believes what he is preaching - and this is why he is so popular. Well, that and the fact that is telling people what they *want* to hear. This is also why scam artists are successful - you sell people the illusion of their dreams becoming reality.
LOLOLOLOLOL OH VENOMFANGX, YOU GOOFY BASTARD. HE'S LIKE A SLINKY, ONLY INSTEAD OF GOING DOWN STAIRS, HE'S JUST TRIPPING OVER HIS OWN STUPID OVER AND OVER :D
The distinction God-science is, I think, not as large as one might think. Although God's existence is unverifiable, lots of religious predictions are (effectiveness of prayer, faith healing, etc.). This has at least already debunked the active God to a large extent. So then why believe in some passive, undetectable, dude that doesnt listen?
You can support any pre-supposed conclusion you want by cherry picking whatever tidbits you think support it and ignoring any and all contradictory facts or ideas. Essentialy, you support religion by leading chosen facts, fallacies, or unsupported assertions to a conclusion. In science, you let the facts, ALL the facts, lead you to the most likely conclusion.
The bible, however, is demonstrably wrong and immoral by modern standards. Not to mention written, and edited by humans. Not gods.
OMG again. I made the dreadful mistake of posting my last comment before the end. I had't catered for 5:12. I had been hoping that Shawn was going to come back a wiser man. Maybe he has and has developed a sense of humour but i doubt it. 5:12 shows something that with all of it's mistakes, external and internal contradictions, is the finest example of circular reasoning that you can wish to have.
OMG. I'd forgotten how annoying he was. Of course science cannot detect a god or gods because it doesn't strive to do so. It quite simply is not part of it's remit. But not only can science not detect god or gods (especially if non existent as in the default position) then neither can philosophy which when it all boils down to it is just a lot of fun with mind games. The bottom line is that there is nothing that provides any proof of god or gods and especially a specific god..
1: methods and attitudes typical of or attributed to the natural scientist
2: an exaggerated trust in the efficacy of the methods of natural science applied to all areas of investigation (as in philosophy, the social sciences, and the humanities)
eh.. has VFX ever said anything usefull? *srugs* this is getting old and im over it. there is no point is bothering with these "christians" anymore. i have better things to do. i dont argue with the legally insane. i dont correct the insane people. lets face it they are mentally sick.
His argument also falls on the fact that he noted that the only way a creator could guide his creation is via a message of some kind that they could interpret.
Why not just constantly hard-wire the message into the brains/genes of those created? That way you could avoid the messy prospect of people interpreting the message on their own and starting holy wars over it. You might argue that it would inhibit free will, but that falls if it's simply a message a person could chose to reject.
If there is a God and He is attempting to send us a message through His creation, wouldn't this be an argument to be as scientific as possible? Oddly enough, I am as fundamentally against scientism as VFX seems to be, but for different reasons.
When you say "what PCS gets so terribly wrong in his video is..." it's like saying "the problem with going from Siberia to Antarctica on foot would be..." It's such an inadequate representation of the sheer scope of the problem that it's almost misleading...
"Hundreds of denominations of Christianity alone."? Good video but there are over 33,000 denominations of Christianity. You can check the World Almanac for a source if you like.
VenomFangX is the posterboy of someone who uses Post hoc ergo propter hoc. A LOT. It never stop amazing me how few people understand the fallacy in thinking that way.
Scientism is also a very degenerative word, in my view.
cont. The fact that these so-called educated people continue to claim that because science has not found all the answers it is wrong, is the most illogical and unreasoned stance imaginable. Please help the masses see this. As of yet, I cannot start the videos I would like but there is a host of others that will 'refudiate' the ill-reasoned and illogic of these so-called 'creationists.' Thank you for all the hard work you put into it CSBAIR and others.
The idea that a default position is the only position that can be real and that a creator is the backup position is an absolutely fallacious argument. We have no empirical evidence that any god exists, let alone the christian god exists. We have before us now a prime example of the stupidity of 'god-fearing' reasoning. There can be no agreement between the fallacious and unproven argument that gods exist and the truth of scientific reasoning.
There's a very interesting TED video about beauty and science. The speaker tries to explain how beauty isn't just in the eye of the beholder (or the socially conditioned beholder) but rather a tool within evolution.
I hget the feeling VFX is going to be continuing in this timbre. He'll attend a lecture, get over confidentconfident and then make a video and have his ass handed to him. This way we can track his modules :-)
I believe the existence of deities is a testable experiment that gets verified every day in favor of there not being any. But the arguments from there would be more philosophical than actually -scientific-.
It seems to me that there are quite a few people who hold to scientism here on youtube. I don't know how many, but really a lot of atheists seem to dislike philosophy and worship atheism. I don't think VFX was out of line addressing it. Although, I do disagree with his conclusion.
No philosophy cannot understand anything because it doesn't produce evidence.

PCS says 'what happens if we approach the world looking for the creator'
is back to front
what we should be doing is saying
what happens if we approach the bible NOT looking fro the creator -so instead of asking 'what does the bible tell us about 'god'
try asking 'what does the bible tell us'
the result while probably unacceptable to most is still more plausible than 'god'
tho it does require that there was a relatively advanced civilisation in remote antiquity

@skiie "Man science is unreliable because its never 100%"
That is somewhat true epistemically. Do we ever truly KNOW something? Then again, if not science, what is a better alternative to base one's beliefs on? Last I checked, gut feelings are less reliable than science.

The distinction God-science is, I think, not as large as one might think. Although God's existence is unverifiable, lots of religious predictions are (effectiveness of prayer, faith healing, etc.). This has at least already debunked the active God to a large extent. So then why believe in some passive, undetectable, dude that doesnt listen?
zottejakke3 1 year ago

5:12 shows something that with all of it's mistakes, external and internal contradictions, is the finest example of circular reasoning that you can wish to have.
pilgrimpater 1 year ago
The bottom line is that there is nothing that provides any proof of god or gods and especially a specific god..
pilgrimpater 1 year ago
PCS is wrong as usual. Merriam-Webster states;
Scientism
1: methods and attitudes typical of or attributed to the natural scientist
2: an exaggerated trust in the efficacy of the methods of natural science applied to all areas of investigation (as in philosophy, the social sciences, and the humanities)

As of yet, I cannot start the videos I would like but there is a host of others that will 'refudiate' the ill-reasoned and illogic of these so-called 'creationists.' Thank you for all the hard work you put into it CSBAIR and others.
journeyer58 1 year ago
The idea that a default position is the only position that can be real and that a creator is the backup position is an absolutely fallacious argument. We have no empirical evidence that any god exists, let alone the christian god exists. We have before us now a prime example of the stupidity of 'god-fearing' reasoning. There can be no agreement between the fallacious and unproven argument that gods exist and the truth of scientific reasoning.
journeyer58 1 year ago
i feel like venom's argument was just one big "well you can't disprove it with science, therefore god exists."
