"What is seperate Scottish Culture" Well for a start Scots Law is seperate from English Law, we have our own education system and history such as the Clans and language such as Gaelic/Scots. the caller has a valid point. i don't really understand how george makes a distinction between ireland and scotland in terms of having a seperate culture to england. gaelic games were verging on extinct prior to independence & english has had prevalence over gaeilge for centuries. does this mean ireland didn't have it's own culture because it was dwarfed by britains' & didn't have the chance to thrive within the union? i'm sure he would argue otherwise.

Most popular tv shows = Britains got talent, X Factor etc etc

Most popular music = mainly English bands

Most read literature = English, Scots, Irish writers

Scottish culture is intertwined with British culture. There are of course some uniquely Scottish things such as Hogmanay, Bagpipes, Shortbread, Tartan, Robert Burns, Highland Games etc.

@Ali74 So you don't understand the fact that Scottish culture is created through religion and the reformation which led to the strong emphasis on education, learning which led to the enlightenment and the Scottish obsession with social and community ideas which dates back to medieval times in actual fact. And that is before you actually get to the cultures in the Islands and what was the culture in the Highlands which was decimated by Britishness. Sorry but you and Galloway are wrong.

Tartans, Bagpipes, Pipe Bands, Highland games, Hogmany, Scots language, Scottish poets like Robert Burns etc, the Scottish Reformation & Enlightenment etc are all Scottish.
