  • Hugh Laurie for president

  • It is PC????

  • I'm not sure that the accent is entirely his fault, though. He's started walking witha real limp now because of all his time on House.

  • He used to make fun of America doing these kind of sketches, but then he sold himself out when he was hired for House M.D.

  • @4009570122 I reckon the way he acts as House is pretty much making fun of America... XD

  • @Birchalls02 Well he does a little, sometimes he plays the american fool, but he even changed his accent, but still has that "British-Are-Superiah'"je ne sais quoi style at acting.

  • Moral of the song: America (otherwise known as "States") getting shoved into the whole world's throats.

  • @MultiPring I think it's more just meant to be a parody of phony "heartfelt" songs like that that are so popular here.

  • @jallen95 hallelujah, at last a comment from someone with a brain

  • Hmm "irony" is something that Americans use to get the creases out of their clothes ;)

  • I lol'd

  • Quite possibly the best Tom Petty rip off ever.

  • Says many things

-America: It is ALL about US (nobody/no place else matters)

-Springsteen Born in the USA take-off

-Repeat patriotic shit over and over and Americans will do the wave and buy into it

    -Simple lyrics for simple people

-Hugh Laurie can play ANYTHING on piano

-Stephen Frye and Hugh Laurie are brilliant, witty, and hilarious

    -America needs more witty humor

  • oh i get it

    we're lazy!!

    lol

  • Where can I get the complete album?

  • Yes steve! =D

  • This is the only thing that makes me love my country.

  • lyrics please?

  • That is some deep lyrics, I can only try to image how many nights it took for him to write all thoose words and put them into this "masterpiece"

  • Eat your heart out, "The Star-Spangled Banner".

  • 63 dislikes? 63 DISLIKES?! WTF

    Anyway, LOVE this.

  • Followed by "fuck yeah".

  • You know you're funny when you can make people laugh really hard with just two words xD

  • 63 people vote Republican.

  • he's in america now....recording house

  • Well done Stephen

  • And that was The Impending Sound.

  • Pure Genius! This is my sense of humour in a nut shell. With a literal punch line too...

  • Is he parodying any person in particular? I'm not sure. Any ideas?

  • @KatarinaSu i think it could be bruce springsteen xD

  • @FayaRules974 Yeah, I thought it might be that with the headband and all. I also thought maybe Randy Newman because of the Piano rock sound.

  • @FayaRules974 I always figured Springsteen, because of his incredibly repetitive "Born in the USA" song. But it could be some kind of composite of assorted all-American singers.

  • @cardionema - The piano sounds like Randy Newman, who did his own share of leg-pulling - and then some.....

  • @KatarinaSu I was thinking willie nelson

  • @KatarinaSu reminds me of Bruce Springsteen, though I'm sure it's more a parody of a genre of songs rather than of a specific artist.

  • @sgc335 do you think it isn't?

  • lol this is so godamn funny

  • in 0:45 he sayed "Who stays"!!!

  • @Wachu195 well he doesnt actually

  • @Wachu195 he says "The States"

  • para ser de inglaterra ama mucho america xDD

  • Watch at 0:40 where he gives a cheeky look and almost cracks up delivering "The States". Makes it even funnier.

  • awesome

  • i love it how steven fry just punches him for no reason! love it! 5 stars!! xx

  • He sings like a "coureur des bois"!!!!! That sounds like a guy of Québec!

  • Ha ha. Ending reminded me of belushi smashing the guitar in animal house.

  • the end's the best

  • wot has he got on his head?lol

  • @tsubassarulz lol google image search bruce springsteen.

  • @Vetis213 ......Oh. HA HA!!!!!!!

  • @Vetis213 or Mark Knopfler!

  • hmmm bruce springsteenish?

  • I couldn't have put it better myself.

  • lol @ your description for the video!

  • i love how they are making fun of America with this song and using Bruce Sprinsteen wardrobe....even though i live in the US its still funny

  • Subject matter may be a bit too international for US TV.

  • wow.... beautiful song.... beautiful words..... xDD

  • America

    The

    States

    3 words !

  • I don't get it. Where is the third word? I heard two.

  • Lol I grew up watching jeeves and wooster, when he started doing house I couldn't take him seriously at first 'cause I just knew him as Bertie. XD

  • Bahaha, same!

  • @Shikahan how true.

  • Wonderful! Just wonderful! *wipes tear*

  • I love this song just as much as 'Where is the Lid?' You have to love it. Also, everyone has to admit they like poking fun at America. If we didn't then why do we have SNL? They bash just about everything in the States.

  • I think Where is the Lid is my favourite song he wrote. That, and the Little Girl song (I cannot remember the name of it).

  • it's called Little Girl lmfao but yes I agree with you on the 'Where is the Lid' song; it's EPIC!

  • anything with hugh laurie in it deserves five stars.

  • LOLROFLMFAOXD!:P!

  • " any man who can take 3 words and make them funny is a genius. "

    True

  • This should be Americas National Anthem

  • This song even beats by Team America's "America... Fuck Yeah!"

  • @gibbs32 And everyone who sings it gets punched by Stephen Fry around a minute in?

    Sounds good to me :P

  • @gibbs32 they should be proud of it! xDDDD

  • @gibbs32 Exactly.

  • @gibbs32

    it probably is

  • @gibbs32

Its better than the one they have now

  • @gibbs32 But... how would people memorize it?? It's quite difficult!!! :p lol

  • @gibbs32 Would be ten times better than the one we already have, and its simple so my fellow feeble minded Americans can understand it, because I've seen sport games, no one even remembers the lyrics to their own fucking national anthem! xD

  • Ya know, I have to admit, I didn't really discover him until House, but now I can't get enough of him. He's really quite an interesting fellow.

  • @linkskywalker you should definitely check out Blackadder

  • @linkskywalker I'm the same lol

  • I love Hugh :D

  • Wooo go stephen!

    xxx

  • the states :D:D

  • LOL

  • Bruce Springsteen would be so proud.

  • Thank you mister Fry...

  • Omg lol. This is their best skit!

  • THE STATES :D:D::DS they are too amazing <3

  • Im american... that that is the FUNNIEST song EVER!!!!!! the way we act sometimes is JUST so concieted!!!!!!

  • :D:D so funny

  • "the states"

    MUAHHAHAHA!!!!

    Love it!

  • Simple but genius

  • 1:00 stop right here and u see the microphone fying

  • That song is fantastic.

  • WHAT A HARD SONG!

  • *wipes imaginary tear*

That was the most beautiful song ever

  • the moment he begins with : the states... I laughed my frickin'ass off ;P and of course stephen with his brilljant face XD (L)

  • lol

  • So funny I had to immediately watch again.

  • HILARIOUS. I'm an American, and I love this. It just goes to prove, you can get away with anything, as long as the guy gets punched at the end. :D

  • @saytheremeg The reason he was punched was because he was being such an annoying American.

  • @0jdh Statements like that show that you did not get the joke at all.

  • wow... this is sooo funny. thanks for reminding us that its ok to laugh at ourselves, Hugh.

  • hahahahahahahhahahahahahaha xDD

  • @OfCheese No, it's Stephen Fryfisted.

  • this man is brilliantly funny & gifted!

  • this is absolutely hilarious. i love this man.

  • the song is totally delightful, a love to listen it all the time:)

  • The man has skills pretty much ne 1 else who makes fun of this country I get pissed but with Hugh it's just funny God I love this guy!

  • There's no need to be rude holyadvocate, tarring a whole nation with one adjective is akin to racism.

  • no one worships the royal family here, at all

  • seconded

  • Hugh Laurie love. <3

  • I think Hugh should be proud. This is great!

  • Haha. This beats Razorlight hands down.

  • "The States"

  • Hugh Laurie is great. In good tradition of Monty Python.

  • als je gaat spammen leer iig engels

  • You speak 3 "languages". Neat. Too bad you can't type in any.

  • You served in iraq to make sure america got oil and if you speak the way you spell, the only other place you'd be working other than the army, is burger king.

  • you speak to kangaroos wtf?

  • really touchin`

  • awesome

  • It's just satire, so chill out. It's not actually about hating America. This song was written years and years ago, before Bush 2 and Iraq 2, and all the America-bashing that goes on today... you seem to think that to call someone 'faggot' (a derisive term for 'homosexual') is a big insult, but did you know that 10% of Americans are 'faggots'? That means you hate America 10%. That means you hate America 10% more than I do, and I laughed at this video.

  • LOL!!!

Learn your own language... THEN learn ENGLISH, then write youtube comments....

  • how many languages do you know? Except from ENGLISH?

  • Lo hablo Espanol, (SPANISH), pero con unas dificuldades...

Ausserdem Spreche ich fliesend Deutsch (GERMAN).

  • You're a fuck head.

It's people like you who make people think that americans have no sense of humor. Come on! It's funny.

Sit down, drink a pop, and shut the hell up.

  • 'Nuff said!

  • How did he remember all words?? ;P

  • Clearly you missed the point of that sketch. Seemed like a pretty obvious poke at the Americans.

  • "Seemed like a pretty obvious poke at the Americans. "

    Hardly...

A poke at unthinking patriotism maybe... they do a very similar sketch on Britain... look up "Marvellous England commentators" by them

It is possible to be fond of America, and simultaneously satire it!

  • i enjoy watching Hugh laurie but I might be a little Slow ,

whats the point of the video . whats Funny ?

  • i think hugh is playing a typical american songwriter who is like all americans, full of themselves and think america is the greatest thing since supersized bread. hugh has used the worlds hatred of america to enthuse people to encourage him in parioding them by laughing. even more appealing is when the obviously english character steven play punches him to much applause

  • ok i get it now thx

  • Okay, late reply but...

I actually spat my drink out at 'the greatest thing since supersized bread'!!!!

    LOL!

  • wow thanks!

  • Me and my Mum laughed our socks off at this! Some of A Bit Of Fry And Laurie has dated, but this song is even funnier now than it was when it was first broadcast.

  • Loool, I like this man ! He's soo funny, this was great like everything he does :)

  • sounds like "where is the lid" song.

  • lmao this is so weird watching him do that after watching house hahahahaaa

    this was hilarious.

  • I almost fell off my chair when Laurie was punched off the piano xD

  • "the" is a word too

  • "the states" and "america"

  • Comment removed

  • yeah thats all i have to say about america too XD

  • america ,america america america.......States!!

    so funny

  • hehe :D he is soo cool

  • great tones!

  • The funny thing about this is incluided in the video information: how a man with just 3 words can make'em funny. Hugh Laurie (and Stephen Fry) are nothing but genius! I also recommend the video "too long Johnny"

  • what are you missing sir is called humor

  • it's funny because it's parodying cheesy American patriotic songs. It's really not that difficult to figure out, people...

  • Old good sarkastic Hugh Laurie. He is also good.

  • "States"

I almost wet my pants.Too,too funny!

    I love Hugh <3

  • Bruce Springsteen's cool

    so are Fry and Laurie

    so are this sketch.

It's a pity that barely anyone knows it in my homecountry (Spain)

    House rules!

  • I love him!
