  • what album is this beautiful song please?

  • @mooneye81 i think its from "Tones" (1986)

    magnificent album

  • @cazz3000

    actually ah via musicom

  • @voodooalchemy ahh yes you are correct sir, my mistake

    meh, both great albums =]

  • Eric Johnson reminds me of the John Bonham of guitarist. Simply one of the best.

  • I don't think that there are very many things in this world as magnificent as a horse in full stride.

  • nowhere near as gay as billy squier's "rock me tonite"---career killer

  • You have to realize that this is an old video. Things were a little different back then. As far as the resolution yes--low quality. Production? Not really. He is not gay, If I'm correct, I think his wife passed on some time ago. I may be wrong, but that was the rumor.

  • Awesome guitarist, I remember seeing him and Stevie Ray Vaughn in around '90 here in Austin. Two of the best ever.

  • I'm trying to remember, and I believe when EJ played with SRV (hahaha all the initials) they also had a black guitarist? and were named Triple Threat...perhaps I'm right but if not it's not the end of the world so please dont attack...seen EJ many times and he is so clean in his technique, wonderful and pure as gold...He was voted top Guitarist so many times In Guitar Player Magazine that he isn't a candidate anymore, he is the one....hahaha

  • this song is from 1989

  • ha ha eJ got a piece of ass in his video

  • Thats a sweet song. EJ rocks!!!!!!

  • what year this video & song were made?

  • The song was 1990, not sure about the video.

  • EJ is amazing. Hands down, one of the best that has ever played.

  • I bet he can tell you what brand of batteries are in your distortion pedal by the tone... Eric has the best set of ears in the world for music...

    Love it!

  • possibly the worst music vid iv ever seen... nice music tho

  • great song

  • GREATT SONG!!!

    i lov it...

  • whoever likes this music should check out his song roctopus it is awesome but i never heard bout it til i accidentally stumbled across it on youtube.

  • EJ at his best here, just tearin it up...what a stellar post

  • Good tone. I love this song!

  • great song

  • what make him really good is when he plays live

  • The last drum beat is the same ad for Cliffs of Dover.

  • Great tune!

  • AHHHHmazing!

  • If you Yanks were better educated, you'd describe the video as 'stylistic', 'artistic', etc. But, the best you can come up with is 'gay'.

The video is almost as cool as the music. The pretty girl is enthralled by the music, and is drawn towards Eric, but so powerfully beautiful is the music, that Eric hmself is enraptured & pays little attention to the pretty girl. The girl, realizing that even her beauty cannot compete with the beauty of the song, turns away.

Now, that's poetry for you !

  • I'm a "yank". And you're right.

MOST American kids are fucked up in the head. but don't generalize.

The video makes me dizzy though.. I'm not saying its bad.

  • this came out it seems like yesterday but its 19 years old damn times a bitch

  • I could listen to Eric for the rest of my life! What a beautiful talent. And, in response to some of the comments below: as a woman who loves men ~~ Eric has it ALL!

  • nevermind...he's a great musician and an handsome dude XP

  • the best

  • Cool Video and of course sounds!

  • Why is anyone the least bit concerned about the guys sexuality?A great song, great tone and phrasing from a great guitar player

  • I wish Cliffs Of Dover had a video. This, while a great tune, does kinda have bad

images associated with it. Either way the fact that this has a video is great. It just means more folks will have heard his music, and THAT'S the main thing.

  • He's from texas, this probably explains the horses and cowboy style, but he also didn't make the video himself, the record company did, so quit your bitchin' about it.

He's a true inspiration, i really like his guitar style, and he's quite a perfectionist too. Allthough i must admit that his latest album Bloom is not as sweet as for example Venus Isle, but still very cool.

Eric Johnson is great, and if you think otherwise, then you should try playing this for yourself!

  • Hey haters, just go away. Eric is a bad ass guitarist, that's all you need to know, stop judging people. Go to a Miley Cyrus video and vent or some video with Ann Coulter or Nancy Grace. So if you dont like Eric, you can suck my ball sack and dental floss with my pubs. I hate Miley Cyrus too.

  • ye are all very intrested in his orentation who gives a fuck cop on its about the music

  • eric was married

  • hes not gay but i got to say the video is alittle homo but this is one of my favorite songs ever

  • I agree he comes off as gay, but he's not. He's so good at both piano and guitar.

  • what do u want? this was the early 90s',,,,

this was when michael bolton and billy ray cyrus were considered teen idols...

but.. extremely gay video for a good song

*shudders* running horses, running dames and bad haircuts

  • the video is homo...- BUT - this is one of favorite...(???)

    sure,that's real democracy!

    so on:

..and already you are a dicksucker.

...but in deep you still remain a human being....

  • hahahahahahha

  • Can't a man be a gentle intellectual and still be hetero? Comparatively Freddie Mercury was a tough as hell exhibitionist and he WAS gay. As said sexual inclination has nothing to do with fine art, so don't go barking up that tree, OK.

  • One thing is being heterosexual and another thing is being the sexual kind of being that attracts the opposite sex. In this case women. Being a "gentle intellectual" means the contrary. Where is the sex appeal on that?

No man you get zero attraction with that. If you are refering to Mr. Eric Johnson I cannot tell because I haven't seen him interact with women. But his music is not that sexual. To put it in the same range you can compare to Steve Vai and get your own conclussions.

  • Exactly. It's not a very manly, let alone macho guy we're talking about here. I'm sure more women were attracted to mr Mercury than mr Johnson in this respect. This has more to do with the amniotic stuff than testicles, not making anyone of them less of a man. Hard to define what sexual music is (does it sound the same should a woman or a man have written it?) but I agree Eric is more of a sensual eclectic.

  • ASk your Female friends.

    For me is simple:

    Tender Surrender.

And then you have the hits:

Anything from Deff Leppard, Duran Duran. etc.

  • Oh, I got female friends that would kick your teeth in without hesitation and those who break into tears for a fleebite. Some would say females' preference in guys will vary with their menstrual cycle and I'm sure EJ would be the flavour of choice for many females at some time in the month.

  • well for a long time no one knew freddy was gay and quite frankly he was consider quite the sex symbol, but thats got more to do with his display of "manliness" (for lack of a better word) then his music. After all, another one bites the dust doesn't exactly scream manly.

  • His sexual orientation is irrelevant.

  • GREAT SONG.

    ERIC..... AMAZING!!!!

  • 0:06 ..patrick roy..:Plol

  • Eric definatly isnt gay guys

  • I love this song but this video is rather random

  • i like the arrangement of his songs very refreshing,,Thanx 4 e vid,,,Keep posting more of this kind of mv..Cheers,,

  • watch the video

    comments are annoying sometimes

  • Absolutely love this track :)

  • bourgeois brats you could have gone to a dictionary site that people can't edit for your definition. EJ is great, reagardless of what his sexuality is. So many homophobes all over the world. That typically means a secret desire to want to try it. Too funny!

  • Ask youself if the things that sicken YOU indicate your secret desire to 'try them'. If you honestly answer 'yes' then you need help (bad) - if you answer no then your point is clearly overly simplistic and invalid.

  • Hey! they edited some of this tune! NOT COOL!!!

  • Eric Johnson is a Guitarist Legend he changed Fender Guitar so it can play better..:) I will buy it..:-bd

  • 4:02

  • jajajaj the fender pick flying to us, very commercial

  • What a great song! The tone is absolutely beautiful.

  • What a cool relaxing song, love it.

  • si.

  • pretty horses!

  • this is a great song to melow out and also to get high to (i know not the point but throwing it out there)

  • One of my favorite guitarists and his idol is mine S.R.V. R.I.P. also props to SLash, Zak wylde, and Angus Young.

  • S.R.V and Eric Johnson were contemporaries..and lived in the same town... love em both.

  • wicked song... one of the gayest videos i have ever seen... what did eric johnson think when buddy showed him the finished product lol i would have kicked his knee in

  • Keep in mind this is basically late 80's/early 90's here. In that time period this video wouldn't have looked very out of place.

  • @o7levi agreed and thanks for the quality upload brother !!!

  • he's gay, and the best guitarist

  • The field of psychiatry calls that projection, my friend :-) EJ is not gay, guys (and gals). Even if he were, so what? Geeeesssh...

  • no, it's the same if he's gay or not, it doesn't matter; at least i don't care.

i didn't understand all that stuff about projection.

    well, he's the best

  • [Wikipedia] Projection reduces anxiety by allowing the expression of the unwanted subconscious impulses or desires without letting the conscious mind recognize them. This is not implying that you are gay. It's just saying that your use of the "He's gay" line (which is in fact a falsehood), seems to be attributable to some sort of anxiety reducing mechanism you've got going on there, dude :-)

  • thank you very much, cause i'm going to study psychiatry.

  • he is not gay I met his wife and know where he lives in Austin

    Go fuck yourself

  • wow, no kidding? that's amazing.

    I bet he's got a great wife.

  • He's not gay, considering he has a wife. A hot one at that :P

  • brillance

  • great song, must have had a bad video director though.

  • why is it singing fool, this is purely instrumental

  • he has good hair

  • when was this filmed? 1990?

and wtf is the concept?! a girl running away and some omish kid gazing? I always pictured trademark as a guy walking miles with his guitar leaving his trademark

  • yea i dont quite get the video. whats with the mailbox flying?

  • Awesome!

  • So relaxing. Just listened to SRV - Riviera Paradise... and it got me in the mood for this.

    Both of'em are incredible.

  • I like Lenny by SRV.

  • You know that SRV is a tribute to the GREAT Stevie Ray Vaughn, right?

  • great music on this and other side of the pond and for the matter around the globe

  • lol at HotSauceFan

The Who (pete townshend made a statement with the guitar), The Beatles, Led Zeppelin (Jimmy Page everyone knows his guitar riffs), Rolling Stones, Muse(modern original Guitarwork), Oasis, Pink Floyd (David Gilmour awesome guitarwork), Jeff Beck (made a guitar sound like something never heard before) etc.

Don't ever Disrespect British influence on music.

I do agree that alot of good guitarplayers come from the usa, but don't smack the British.

  • I hate fenders, but EJ makes me wonder if i've really been missing out this whole time.

  • yeah a little bit, everyone should own at least one strat!

  • They're also the best at making guitar-based music. So why don't you stuff that in your pipe and smoke it, bitch.

  • lol!!! get a clue-americans are the WORST at english!!hahahahaha Eric kicks ass!!!

  • one reason why his tone is so great is that you don't hear the clicking noise from the pick when it hit the strings. he accomplishes this by dulling out tone by adding more bass in it. compare EJ when he plays fast to normal shredders, you'll hear EJ notes more clearer. i know this because i play most of his tones on the guitar.

  • Would it be because he's finger picking?

Mark Knopfler has a pretty nice tone too

    Please enlighten!

  • He fingerpicks and also uses hybrid picking in which both the pick and fingers pluck the strings smoothly. Perfect technique and coordination of both hands and a self admitted obsession over tone(and original 50's strats and twin reverbs!!!!!!) add up to some amazing tone :)

  • thats right, he uses hybrid picking a lot. its crazy how he co-ordinates it so well

  • Better known as economy picking.

  • Best of the best....

  • Pure genius.

  • Absolutely out of this world, Eric is the master he is the embodiment of what playing guitar and soul is all about, his passion and heart is unmatched.

  • "°º¤ø„¸¨"°º¤ø„¸¸„ø¤º°"¨¸„ø¤º°" ¨

    ¨"°º¤ø„¸ Eric Johnson ¸„ø¤º°"¨

    ¸„ø¤º°"¨ ~~~~ ROCKS!!~~~~ ``"°º¤ø„¸

    ¸„ø¤º°"¨¸„ø¤º°"¨¨"°º¤ø„¸¨"°º¤ø

  • Eric Johnson!! YEAH!

  • baby blue eyes

  • Fantastic!!!

  • I feel so free when I'm listening to this song and watching the video! Thanks for the upload, I appreciate it!

  • He's so cute.

  • Eric johnson so good

  • Instrumental, not song.

  • His wife's beautiful like his music..

  • drcpilotflyer this and the whole album AH VIA MUSICOM are available for purchase in a book from either amazon, ebay, or maybe your local music store if they can order sheet music books. I would reccomend Amazon. That is where I get all my books becuase it is so cheap and reliable.

  • The master of tones !

  • cool song...:)

  • does anybody do tabs for his music

  • Seen it live and loved every second of it.

  • I know! It's amazing, isn't it?!

  • Yep, especially when your watching him play it in his studio with an audience of 3 :-)

  • Lucky you--I'd kill for that! Haha. :]

  • haha :)

  • A great song...

  • amazing tone sounds so awesome

  • THis is a great song. I like it a lot.

  • This is just tasteful melodic guitar playing. It just goes to show you that you can never beat a good melody and great songwriting. I think too many guitar players get too busy and shred too much which makes the solos un-memorable. The mark of a great composer is the ability to vreat memorable and dare I say singable melodies. Eric stands out from the crowd along with Satch,Vai becuase he creates hit melodies.

  • nice post HEAD, but leave out Vai

  • OMG!!! Such wise words!!! :)

  • THANK YOU . I love Eric Johnson, Vai and Satch becuase they are composers of great melodies that they just happen to apply to the modern electric guitar. Much like the composers of the past ala Bach, Mozart, Haydn,Chopin etc. These are our modern day composers! And I love it all!

  • Eric Johnson is quite possibly THE GREATEST guitar player on the planet. I remember Eddie Van Halen saying the same thing a couple 'o decades back!

  • He is incredible! love this song, but the video is kinda... lame? :(

  • i think every single note he plays resonates properly!!!!!!

  • the guy is the best and is so humble, no ego, wants the best for everyone

  • You called it correctly, humble and no ego. I was lucky enough to see Eric a total of five times when I lived in Texas, the first time for free. He is truly amazing.

Unfortunately I had to pass on the 6th time seeing him, and that same night during the show I did NOT attend, Stevie Ray jumped on stage and jammed with Eric. A few weeks later SRV was dead. I still can't believe Stevie Ray is gone and I missed that show...

  • He has the most BEAUTIFUL TONE of any electric guitarist out there IMHO. I saw him in concert about 2 years ago. It was worth EVERY PENNY of the $35 ticket. If you haven't seen Eric Johnson live, you should!

  • He is one of the ultimate guitarist, he can play alsmost all kind of styles. With so many influences from so many talents like Jimmy Hendrix, Chet Atkins, Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, and many more,he was able to make his own unique sound and style from blues to rock and little bit of jazz and something in between, not to mention his very own TONE. He is wonderful as well when he plays accoustic guitar and piano. And he plays along with other great guitarist also, no ego at all.

  • One of the most recognizable Eric Johnson tunes. One of the best. Nice video. It does make me think of summer. It is now. 100's.

  • this song is so beautiful, it makes me think of freedom and how sometimes i look for too much in life and dont appreciate what i already have and the beauty in those stuffs, eric johnson is a real guitarist, he conveys emotion into his music, he makes music he loves (not for commercial purposes), its so simple sounding yet sophisticated, melodic and beautiful

    a work of art

  • this is amazing hes not the fastest but one thing most guitarist fail on is transfering your emotions onto guitar and eric johnson exells in this beutifull

  • "hes not the fastest " haha, you don't know him very well. He can play fast and he doesn't hide behind distortion.

  • This song (and "Desert Rose") always makes me think of being nine years old, with my dad and brother blasting Eric Johnson on the stereo and me thinking that maybe this "rock and roll" stuff wasn't so bad after all. Love it, and I don't usually like just crazy-good guitar songs.

  • Ah, what a great song, so relaxing, makes me think of summer. Eric Johnson is truly one of the best guitar players I've ever heard, and the only way I can describe this song is pure, musical bliss. The video is nice to, gives a feeling freedom when watching. Thanks for uploading!

  • I agree 100% with you. It's amazing.

  • one of the most sophisticated guitarist i've seen..i love all of EJ's work.. trademark shows the beauty of guitar playing!! keep up the good work!!

  • Eric Johnson is much better than i tought!

  • I love this! Thanks for sharing o7levi!!

  • Is it normal that after everytime I hear this, I wanna cry?

  • Yes.

  • I saw this guy in 1991 at SAN JOSE SPARTAN STADIUM, with ZZ TOP, STEVE MILLER BAND and with EXTREME.

What a fun ass show , about 40,000 people were at the show.

  • love the double-toned lick at 2:10

this is the porfect music to drive down a lonesome interstate in the middle of nowhere to

  • this song is epic

I cud never dream about creating a song like that

    Eric is a legend

  • hey the base riff at 1:21 is the same as the outro riff how clever.

  • One of the greatest songs ever...im not too sure about the music video though.

  • fuck I love the lick at 1:34

  • me too, the tone is just immense on that lick, its dead easy to play though

  • Amazing!

  • sorry I missed!! I was trying to shoot down Kanutoz09 and i clik that wrong hand. Eric Johnson is my favorite musician, he have soul , its important. Kanutoz09 learn more about music.

  • how dare u disrespect a legendary musician fuck u loser burn in hell bitch.

  • whayuselludu?

    is a bad music ooooo

proper elnlighs please, and this is about as good as music gets bitch!

  • If you must criticize,at least write proper English!

  • If they are criticizing E.J., I don't think they CAN write proper English, because they are obviously NOT from this planet.

  • Guys, I personally love Eric's music. But he's still only human :D

Leave room open for criticism, and forgive ppl that don't speak english for not writing proper English xD

  • Amen, brother!

  • eric is the most laid back guitaris ive ever seen;) Steve vai play with FEELINGS, eric is so chill=)

  • watch his performance of 'desert rose' at lauderdale- you will eat your words.

  • 1:45

  • hahahahahaaha
