You have to realize that this is an old video. Things were a little different back then. As far as the resolution yes--low quality. Production? Not really. He is not gay, If I'm correct, I think his wife passed on some time ago. I may be wrong, but that was the rumor.
I'm trying to remember, and I believe when EJ played with SRV (hahaha all the initials) they also had a black guitarist? and were named Triple Threat...perhaps I'm right but if not it's not the end of the world so please dont attack...seen EJ many times and he is so clean in his technique, wonderful and pure as gold...He was voted top Guitarist so many times In Guitar Player Magazine that he isn't a candidate anymore, he is the one....hahaha
If you Yanks were better educated, you'd describe the video as 'stylistic', 'artistic', etc. But, the best you can come up with is 'gay'.
The video is almost as cool as the music. The pretty girl is enthralled by the music, and is drawn towards Eric, but so powerfully beautiful is the music, that Eric hmself is enraptured & pays little attention to the pretty girl. The girl, realizing that even her beauty cannot compete with the beauty of the song, turns away.
I could listen to Eric for the rest of my life! What a beautiful talent. And, in response to some of the comments below: as a woman who loves men ~~ Eric has it ALL!
I wish Cliffs Of Dover had a video. This, while a great tune, does kinda have bad
images associated with it. Either way the fact that this has a video is great. It just means more folks will have heard his music, and THAT'S the main thing.
He's from texas, this probably explains the horses and cowboy style, but he also didn't make the video himself, the record company did, so quit your bitchin' about it.
He's a true inspiration, i really like his guitar style, and he's quite a perfectionist too. Allthough i must admit that his latest album Bloom is not as sweet as for example Venus Isle, but still very cool.
Eric Johnson is great, and if you think otherwise, then you should try playing this for yourself!
Hey haters, just go away. Eric is a bad ass guitarist, that's all you need to know, stop judging people. Go to a Miley Cyrus video and vent or some video with Ann Coulter or Nancy Grace. So if you dont like Eric, you can suck my ball sack and dental floss with my pubs. I hate Miley Cyrus too.
Can't a man be a gentle intellectual and still be hetero? Comparatively Freddie Mercury was a tough as hell exhibitionist and he WAS gay. As said sexual inclination has nothing to do with fine art, so don't go barking up that tree, OK.
One thing is being heterosexual and another thing is being the sexual kind of being that attracts the opposite sex. In this case women. Being a "gentle intellectual" means the contrary. Where is the sex appeal on that?
No man you get zero attraction with that. If you are refering to Mr. Eric Johnson I cannot tell because I haven't seen him interact with women. But his music is not that sexual. To put it in the same range you can compare to Steve Vai and get your own conclussions.
Exactly. It's not a very manly, let alone macho guy we're talking about here. I'm sure more women were attracted to mr Mercury than mr Johnson in this respect. This has more to do with the amniotic stuff than testicles, not making anyone of them less of a man. Hard to define what sexual music is (does it sound the same should a woman or a man have written it?) but I agree Eric is more of a sensual eclectic.
Oh, I got female friends that would kick your teeth in without hesitation and those who break into tears for a fleebite. Some would say females' preference in guys will vary with their menstrual cycle and I'm sure EJ would be the flavour of choice for many females at some time in the month.
well for a long time no one knew freddy was gay and quite frankly he was consider quite the sex symbol, but thats got more to do with his display of "manliness" (for lack of a better word) then his music. After all, another one bites the dust doesn't exactly scream manly.
bourgeois brats you could have gone to a dictionary site that people can't edit for your definition. EJ is great, reagardless of what his sexuality is. So many homophobes all over the world. That typically means a secret desire to want to try it. Too funny!
Ask youself if the things that sicken YOU indicate your secret desire to 'try them'. If you honestly answer 'yes' then you need help (bad) - if you answer no then your point is clearly overly simplistic and invalid.
wicked song... one of the gayest videos i have ever seen... what did eric johnson think when buddy showed him the finished product lol i would have kicked his knee in
[Wikipedia] Projection reduces anxiety by allowing the expression of the unwanted subconscious impulses or desires without letting the conscious mind recognize them. This is not implying that you are gay. It's just saying that your use of the "He's gay" line (which is in fact a falsehood), seems to be attributable to some sort of anxiety reducing mechanism you've got going on there, dude :-)
and wtf is the concept?! a girl running away and some omish kid gazing? I always pictured trademark as a guy walking miles with his guitar leaving his trademark
The Who (pete townshend made a statement with the guitar), The Beatles, Led Zeppelin (Jimmy Page everyone knows his guitar riffs), Rolling Stones, Muse(modern original Guitarwork), Oasis, Pink Floyd (David Gilmour awesome guitarwork), Jeff Beck (made a guitar sound like something never heard before) etc.

This is just tasteful melodic guitar playing. It just goes to show you that you can never beat a good melody and great songwriting. I think too many guitar players get too busy and shred too much which makes the solos un-memorable. The mark of a great composer is the ability to vreat memorable and dare I say singable melodies. Eric stands out from the crowd along with Satch,Vai becuase he creates hit melodies.
THANK YOU . I love Eric Johnson, Vai and Satch becuase they are composers of great melodies that they just happen to apply to the modern electric guitar. Much like the composers of the past ala Bach, Mozart, Haydn,Chopin etc. These are our modern day composers! And I love it all!
You called it correctly, humble and no ego. I was lucky enough to see Eric a total of five times when I lived in Texas, the first time for free. He is truly amazing.
Unfortunately I had to pass on the 6th time seeing him, and that same night during the show I did NOT attend, Stevie Ray jumped on stage and jammed with Eric. A few weeks later SRV was dead. I still can't believe Stevie Ray is gone and I missed that show...
He has the most BEAUTIFUL TONE of any electric guitarist out there IMHO. I saw him in concert about 2 years ago. It was worth EVERY PENNY of the $35 ticket. If you haven't seen Eric Johnson live, you should!
He is one of the ultimate guitarist, he can play alsmost all kind of styles. With so many influences from so many talents like Jimmy Hendrix, Chet Atkins, Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, and many more,he was able to make his own unique sound and style from blues to rock and little bit of jazz and something in between, not to mention his very own TONE. He is wonderful as well when he plays accoustic guitar and piano. And he plays along with other great guitarist also, no ego at all.
this song is so beautiful, it makes me think of freedom and how sometimes i look for too much in life and dont appreciate what i already have and the beauty in those stuffs, eric johnson is a real guitarist, he conveys emotion into his music, he makes music he loves (not for commercial purposes), its so simple sounding yet sophisticated, melodic and beautiful
this is amazing hes not the fastest but one thing most guitarist fail on is transfering your emotions onto guitar and eric johnson exells in this beutifull
This song (and "Desert Rose") always makes me think of being nine years old, with my dad and brother blasting Eric Johnson on the stereo and me thinking that maybe this "rock and roll" stuff wasn't so bad after all. Love it, and I don't usually like just crazy-good guitar songs.
Ah, what a great song, so relaxing, makes me think of summer. Eric Johnson is truly one of the best guitar players I've ever heard, and the only way I can describe this song is pure, musical bliss. The video is nice to, gives a feeling freedom when watching. Thanks for uploading!

One of the most recognizable Eric Johnson tunes. One of the best. Nice video. It does make me think of summer. It is now. 100's.

this song is so beautiful, it makes me think of freedom and how sometimes i look for too much in life and dont appreciate what i already have and the beauty in those stuffs, eric johnson is a real guitarist, he conveys emotion into his music, he makes music he loves (not for commercial purposes), its so simple sounding yet sophisticated, melodic and beautiful
a work of art

"hes not the fastest " haha, you don't know him very well. He can play fast and he doesn't hide behind distortion.

I saw this guy in 1991 at SAN JOSE SPARTAN STADIUM, with ZZ TOP, STEVE MILLER BAND and with EXTREME.
What a fun ass show , about 40,000 people were at the show.

If you must criticize,at least write proper English!
orangewizard 3 years ago
If they are criticizing E.J., I don't think they CAN write proper English, because they are obviously NOT from this planet.

Guys, I personally love Eric's music. But he's still only human :D
Leave room open for criticism, and forgive ppl that don't speak english for not writing proper English xD
