  • I see the meaning as "Root" and more narrowly confining to the meaning as in specific origination... The African voice is more successful than that of the Osmonds (non-African)... The music of Jewish root is usually more successful than most music written by non-Jewish origins... For a people representing 5% of population; yet dominates 90% of the charts... "All" the Broadway musicals are music contributed by Jewish writers.... (slight exaggeration to make the point)...

  • I love Dame Shirly Bassey, saw her in concert at Radio City Music Hall. However, she is of African lineage. There are thee genres of music: African, European and Jewish... European whites (like me) can identify with Mozart but not Ben E. King... This is a theory.... Not a proven scientific fact; unless there is one.... I like giving credit where I believe credit is due... I enjoy the challenge of your comment, but I would like to hear from more people who don't agree with me...

  • @kevinbacon6451 3 genres of music???? That's very musically ignorant-- there are many many genres-- you need to get out more and listne around

  • @Marielena5058 OK, I'm no music genius... But you need to know the meaning of the work "genre" first...

  • @kevinbacon6451 Do you know the meaning of "genre"? It is only a fancy (it's French) way of saying "kind" or "category." You're equating music with racial/ethnic US categories. Music is universal and folks all over he world have "borrowed," incorporated, integrated (no pun intended, just trying to keep it light here) and otherwise blended music, which is why we have many many genres, subgenres, amd styles inclding "white soul."

  • @kevinbacon6451 sorry, but it's wrong. This song is written by an italian. so, what you are talkin about? African, white..... what's the point?

  • My other post was misleading. This IS Ben E. King, but was recorded years later. His voice is not as strong and convincing. The arrangement is no match for the original release. His original is great and I hope someday it will be on here.

  • omg this is an awesome song!!! :(

  • i wish ben e king had more classic footage of him performing his hits on youtube. their more to ben e king besides stand by me

  • A poor imitation of the original by Ben E. King

  • @billygee12 i agree with u,this ain't Ben e. king voice

  • This is not the original version. Ben E. King's original release walks all over this one. I have yet to hear it on youtube.

  • @raincoatriver ur right. the original can be found on the very best of ben e king cd

  • I picked up a 45 with this on it the other day (i dont think it's an original copy) but it seems to have an alternate version on it, like a first take or something. I dont like the singing on my version quite as much as this version, anyone know if he recorded multiple versions or anything like that?

  • There is another version of this song by Ben E. King. On the 45 it would be on a red label, I can't remember the name of the record company. It's a much better version on that 45. You can hear the raw passion in his voice as he's singing, almost as if he's experiencing that pain at that moment as he's singing. Can anyone find that specific version? I would be SO happy!!

  • what a great soulful song by a great soulful artist.

  • velvety smooth version. Lovely. I also enjoy Shirley Bassey's fiery version.

  • @nomsa52 Hi, I like this by Ben E King very much, But I like it best by Dane Shirley Bassey !!!

  • @CharlesBarry I saw Dame Shirley years ago in Radio City Music Hall (NYC) she is magnificent... Her energy filled the beautiful theatre and her theme song "This is My Life".... That feeling of passion is also called soul... It's a natural gift to Black, and whites never had it. They often try to imitate it; but don't come close !!! lol

  • @kevinbacon6451 Hi, I don't know what you mean ( white' s don't have it ) ? did you not know Dame Shirley B. 's mother was WHITE !!! her father was black.

  • 1stevewhite1 I agree with you. This is the song I remember when I was little. It just felt so right to my ears.

  • This is a re-recording of the original ben e king recording. most of the re-recording and digitallt remastered versions of these old songs don't hold up against the original.

  • memories....

  • True! It's an Italian song written by Mogol and Donida, but I remember it sang by Johnny Dorelli. Anyway the English version by the great Ben E King is super, especially the first edition, it was more "felt" but also this one is good. Very, very good also side B of that record: The beginning of time"

  • The other version is the one I heard first (think it was on Sopranos?) and I prefer it to this one. Somehow the vocals flow better imo. Terrific song either way.

  • Ditto, johnnylalaboy. I have a 1963 recording of a radio station broadcast of this song made on a little Webcor tape recorder of this particular song, and this IS the original recording (with the "tap, tap, tapping" sounds that the other YouTube recording lacks). Great performance by Mr. King. True: "This one is the killer."

  • this is not the original song...original is a italian song from joe sentieri

    title is:uno dei tanti

  • This is the true original recording & performance....breathtaking in its emotional vulnerability, its poignance, its sense of tragedy.

There's another King performance here on YouTube but it's an alternate recording and take in a key that's a semi-tone higher. It's OK but lacks the desperation in his performance.

    THIS ONE IS THE KILLER!

  • @gringo78586 you an idiot

  • @gringo78586 YOU HORRIBLE RACIST PIECE OF SHIT,HOPE YOU DIE IN AGONY.

  • @eddietheturdburglar pretty sure when he says 'baddest' he means really good..

  • @eddietheturdburglar I really don't think he meant it in a racist way, he's probably just a lower class street kid, and thats his way of giving props. relax.

  • @gringo78586 He lived and grew up in a segregation.

After becoming a legend because of his achivments, god know what he had to go through, do you really think that he would aprechiate a wannabe gangster like you comming and calling the n-word?

I think you just need to stop and think for a second to figure this out. Is that to much for you?

I agree with the ppl here, yopu are an idiot.

  • I grew up with this song! I remember it like it was just yesterday!

Love it! Especially that "tika-tika-tika" percussion part!

  • I who have not that much!

  • this is great singing

  • absolutely fantastic

  • Danke dir für diesen song!

  • @doowopdesire8806 I was just going to say the same thing....
