I think they should have left a part of the stadium there with one of the gates. I don't think it was time to get rid of it yet. I am 14 and I went to 25 games there in 5 years. And after that game was the one time I was not happy after a win. Now. There is nothing left to tell my grandkids about but once a time there was a ballpark named Yankee Stadium. :(
im almost 18 .. and prob go to 4-10 games a year since i was 9... this year it really hit me when they showed old jeter videos from the old place how much i miss it.. i legit made my dad walk down to where the little legue feilds are now to just say hey rember this was the gate... i really miss it
Im a yankee fan and I thought it was discusting that they tore down such a place just for money. It was not necissary. Now shea on the other hand was a dump and shoulda been torn down 40 years ago.
The problem with this is that sure people who played and watched games will remember the old Stadium, but how about the future generations? How are they going to remember America's most historic sports arena? Heritage Field? BAH! It's a crime against history to have completely tore down OYS. It was the US's Roman Colosseum and we tore it down to make Steinbrenner richer.
After it was renovated in '73 i liked the looks but it really didn't look like it use to. The new Yankee Stadium is a combo of the old and the new and i love it. but u cant put a price one the class of the old one.
I got a tour of the old Yankee Stadium before they tore it down. We got to go into all the locker rooms, and the announcers booth. I will never forget Yankee Stadium.
I asked my friend how he reacted when they tore down this stadium. (He's a Mets fan, but he used to be a Yankees fan.) He said that he was happy about it; and he said it in a bitter way. I beat him up, and said that we weren't friends anymore. And it felt great. YANKEE STADUM WILL ALWAYS BE RIGHT HERE. (Holds heart.)
Y'know guys, it is REALLY idiotic that they tore down the old stadium, but someday, they're gonna tear down the new yankee stadium. And, believe me when I say that there are gonna be a LOT of memories in the new yankee stadium. So, let's just enjoy the new yankee stadium; before it gets torn down.
There really was no reason to tear down Yankee Stadium. After the ground-up rebuild in 1976, it was STILL one of the best ballparks - second, possibly, to only Dodger Stadium. After the rebuild there were no bad seats, no obstructed views and it looked beautiful, even after 33 years. So why did they do it? The Steinbrenners wanted more luxury boxes and expensive seats. That's the only reason.
I'm 16 and me and my dad used to go to the old stadium all the time, he grew up in the Bronx going to the first one with his father was well. Ive been to the new one 3 times, but its not the same, somethings missing, It seems fake.
the only regret i have is that i never saw the yanks win at the old stadium. i went to one game at the stadium, and they lost in 13 innings. heartbreaker. cant believe its gone.
this makes me want to cry...yogi berra to me is the greatest baseball player in the history of the mlb. and to gomorrah0's comment sooo truuuueeeee.yogi berra is the best.this year im gonna go 2 as many games as possible
so glad we won so the new stadium feels like home now. Since the construction of the new stadium I always said the only way it would ever feel like home is to christen it with a title.
This was the best year i had with the yankees i went to opening day, old timers day, 6 walk offs 10 other games, ALDS game 1 AlCS game 6 which they clinched to the world series and i went to game 1 of world series and game 6 which they won the world series
Only went to one game in New YS this year and it was ALCS Game 6 eliminating the Angels. Wasn't opening day but Im proud I was there in the first season.
26 WS Titles in the old stadium.... 26 in the new one.... 1 down, 25 to go. Cano, Hughes, CC pushing for their 4th titles. and Jesus Montero and Austin Jackson beyond them pushing for theirs too. Nobody will ever understand what it takes to be a Yankee. People can talk about our payroll when they don't see our beautiful history. To all those including the Red sox, Fuck them and God bless the team of a America. The New York Yankees.
so sad - i only got to see yankee stadium twice. once in 2003 and once in 2006, i was 12 and 15 respectively, so i never really appreciated the history of it all. i took this place for granted and now its gone and we're left with a stadium that, no matter how gorgeous it is, will never be the same.
congratulations yankees on winning the world series!
everytime i see this it makes me wanna cry its soo true all the memories of this stadium will always be with us from lou gehrig in the 1920s to yogi berra in the 1950s to derek jeter in 2000s from every home run and every world series win 2 every al pennant and all the great players that stood befor all of this. the yankees have the greatest players and history and will forever be the best.
If I have to explain what I'm feeling to you; then you have missed out on one of life's great treasures. I have been a Yankee fan since 1951 and I've been lucky enough to play in this field of dreams. When it goes; so goes a piece of my life. Thanks Yogi
As a Blue Jays fan, I was lucky enough to visit the old Stadium last summer against the Red Sox. I fulfilled a life dream to see the same batters box where the Greats played.
He's right. This stadium will never be missed. It will live in the hearts of everyone who was ever lucky enough to walk into it. It brought the greatest city in the world together and united its people in good times and in bad times. The place will not be missed because all of the games, the championships, the legends, and the memories will never die.
This place will never be missed. It lives in the heart of every New Yorker, whether your a Yankee fan or not. This simple building, the concrete, metal, dirt, and grass, united the greatest city on Earth in hard times and in good times. It brought the people together and inspired hope and gave the people something to cherish in their life. The people of New York were brought together in this stadium and the games, the rivalries, the legends, and the memories built in this stadium will never die.
im a mets fan and this movie makes me feel sad because i had memories here i loved it any baseball fan loves it there was something that made this park so special along with fenway
still get goosebumps everytime I watch this video. Yogi berra still is and always will be my favorite yankee of all time...LETS GO YANKEES, Boston sucks
The old Yankee stadium sure had an impressive final year. One final season, one final all-star game, one final papal mass. You can't have a stadium's closing year like that for a long time.
I was at the last game at Yankee Stadium and even throughout the pre-game festivities I managed not to shed a tear even with all the greats on the field. This came on though during the 7th inning I believe and it was the first time I shed a tear. I've been to the new Yankee Stadium and it's just not the same, as crazy as it sounds it's something you can't put into words. But thanks, Old Yankee Stadium for all the great memories.
Such a powerful video..maaan. I am going to miss that stadium.. I got tickets to the new one against the redsox coming up. Wonder what its going to be like without all the history being there.
This tribute by Yogi really hit home. It's been many, many years since I've lived in N.Y but the YANKEES and the 'Stadium" were always a big part of that time. I guess like Yogi, for me, Yankee Stadium will always be "right here."
this video says it all it was like a second home to me. Whenever i got a chance to go which was like 500 times, every time felt like it was my first. No stadium can make u feel the way yankee stadium did. Its not possible. People get chills and seriously some people tear up walkin through the gates. believe me ive witnessed it. I breathe and sleep yankees, goin to bed at night countin down the days till the opener but nothing will ever be the same. Yankee stadium is one of a kind. LEAVE IT UP
What was most striking about that last night was the moments after Jeters speech on the mound when everyone there sort of realized at once that THAT was it. Still have mixed feelings about the move.
I think the national baseball hall of fame needs to be moved to the old yankee stadium. i mean shit its the most historical sports venue in the world. it needs to be a museum not torn down!!!whats in cooperstown?? nothing its a stupid place to have the baseball hall of fame. The old yankee stadium is a perfect fit, more historical people and events have happened there than anywhere else. it practically is a hall of fame in its self. plain and simple:IT NEEDS TO BE CONVERTED INTO THE HALL OF FAME!
My wife & I are huge Yankee fans from NC, been to Yankee Stadium several times & other stadiums where the Yanks have played. We love Yogi (Mickey & Jeter) the best of all time. We just paid $800 for a puppy and named him Yogi !
I too was watching this game, still holding out the fact that possibly the Red Sox could blow their almost insurmountable lead in the wild card, that at one point the Yankees has dwindled down to 1 Game Behind. Jeter's speech didnt do it for me because they won the game so the hope was still alive for another day, we needed something alittle bit more somber. Once this commercial came on right after the game, I realized that this was the closing of a ballpark I knew like the back of my hand.
i watched this whole game...didnt really feel emotional...until this...ill never forget...was the first thing to come on after the game...and i finally realized...that was it
I love this video it brought some tears at the end. i love the part when yogi says there was the Babe Joltin Joe and the Mick. and most i loved is the Home Runs they were so much fun watching those home runs launch over the fences. cant wait to see who launches the first big blast at new yankees stadium GOO Yankees. C.C. A.J M.T
There's no Bigger Phillies fan than me!!..But I love Yogi & all those old time Yankees...been to Yankee Stadium several times & gonna miss the old place........
I am not a Yankees fan... but this video is beautiful and haunting. It embodies the great tradition of baseball - and a damn good baseball player. Love them or hate them, the Yankees represent the very best.
iget the chills watching this...my fav commercial... love yogi
sad to see it go....everytime i went there was something in the air..a feeling that would come over me....felt like i was home lol....R.I.P yankee stadium....may the new stadium continue to win championships
I think the national baseball hall of fame needs to be moved to the old yankee stadium. i mean shit its the most historical sports venue in the world. it needs to be a museum not torn down!!!whats in cooperstown?? nothing its a stupid place to have the baseball hall of fame. This beautiful video captures the essence of the most hallowed cathedral in sports. A spot of purity and goodness in a whorl of madness. A place where men get to become boys once again, and feel the fabric of their boyhood dreams.
This place, so storied, so loved, is the real Field of Dreams.
Let's make the New Yankee Stadium, built on the shoulders of the old, stand even taller.
goodbye yankee stadium lets make some new memories in the new one so much history was there but we can always remeber everything that ever happened there like championships and perfect games
Even though Yankee Stadium is done I will always remember all the memories i had there. It does hurt a little to know I will never be able to attend another game in the best sporting facility of all time. Hopefully the Yankees can give the new stadium a world series win in its first year.
stienbrener is a complete asshole my dad doesn't like him and neither do i tearing down yankee is like taking away the heart of new york this reminds of when ebbets fiels was torn down
I WAS THERE! AND I GOTTA TELL YOU THE MEMORIAL WAS BETTER THAN ANY THING IVE SEEN1 EVEN DISNEYS PARADES! I just love it when he says, "it will be gone, but it wont be gone in here. thats so sad! I will remember that day I was there. LONG LIVE YANKEES!
I almost cried when this aired on ESPN... I've been a Yankee fan all my life and I cannot believe that they are just going to tear the place down so Stienbrener can get his luxury boxes... All that history, all of those memories... I can't believe it's gone.
But, the Yanks won the Series when The Stadium opened, so maybe it'll happen in 2009?
i cant stand the yankees but this is a great clip. no matter who u are a fan of u gotta love yogi. its going to be tough to see that place go. its a living, breathing museum and a part of history.
Im by no means a Yankees fan, but if the loss of this stadium and the commercial of Yogi Berra dont get to you, then you need to question your ideas of what a sports fan really is.
I was at the game Sunday night, sitting near the right field foul pole. The saddest moment was right after the guys finished their lap around the perimeter when everyone in the place realized that THAT WAS IT. Was great to see Bernie and Tino and Brosius back though. Get em next year.
I'm a Sox fan and I can honestly say I cried my eyes out the other day before during and after the game. I'm a huge Red Sox fan. In fact the biggest one I've ever met, but I'm more of a fan of baseball than I am of the Red Sox. You will never hear one bit of ignorance out of me or anyone else who is a true baseball fan. The last game played at yankee Stadium was one of the saddest days in my life. Baseball will never be the same without Yankee Stadium.
that has to be one the nicest things I have ever heard a Red Sox fan say. The stadium is not just for Yankee fans, it belonged to all fans of baseball. With the stadium closing, it's an end of a long era. Hopefully, all the ghosts from the stadium will join us at the new one.
What a wonderful reflection. I too am first a baseball fan-then a Yankee fan-then a Red Sox fan. I had a lump in my throat and wetness in my eyes last Sunday night. Thanks Buddy!!
Yogi Bears is a pimp he's a true yankee and the best catcher of all time it's a shame there gonna tear down the best stadium of all time joe torre would have never let it happen R.I.P. Yankee stadium well miss you

What a shame to tare down this stadium and all of it's histoty with it. That wrecking ball is going to tare into the stadium, and into the legacy of Micky, Joe D. and the Babe. Goodbye forever. and for What? Because the Steinbrenners did'nt want the Wilpons to have one. GREED!
Glad to see Bernie Williams finally got what he deserved in the pre-game ceremony... one of the greatest Yankees ever... played the game the right way and went about his business the right way... congrats Bernie.. you deserve it
This absolutely ROCKS! I do have I question though, well, it basically a 2 part question. Why no mention Of Joe T. and why mention Chuck Knoblauch and not mention Rodger Clemens? I myself wouldnt touch Rodger with a 10 foot pole right about now, but there was imagery of Knoblauch when he was with the Yankees which is one reason I ask the question. Regardless, the ultimate stadium has just closed and I never got to see it! That truly sucks!
hey zzxxchris...y dun do do us all a favor n jump in front of a bus no1 needs to hear ur crap...if u think no1 cares bout da stadium then ur even more dum then ur comment makes u look...yankee stadium is always gna b the greatest stadium in the history of sports..all the championships won there n the legendary players that hav played on that field... its really sad 2 c it go but well make new memories in the new 1... goodbye yankee stadium... thanks 4 the memories
What a bunch of crap. They are tearing down part of history. Why? More money thats why! How much of the new stadium is going to be box seats for corporations? Once again the teams sock it to the fans. Makes me glad I dont follow baseball. They can get sentamental all they want its all for the greenbacks. The ture fans take it on the chin. Next thing you know they will be paving over the Gettysburg battlefield for condos.
So cried like many fans did cz Yankee Stadium is no more, annnnnd, because im 18 yrs & from Arizona and im never gonna be able to see Yankee Stadium so yeah thats what makes it even more sadder for me,.. and i cry every time i see this video,..
Great video. They should have made it a Yankee museum. Or a high school or college home.

they're all gone, and we're left with a state-of-the-art facility with no heart and soul.
No matter what, the Yankees will never be the same, and I feel lucky to have witnessed the complete domination of the 1990s firsthand.

Well done, Yogi! Beautiful!

God bless you, Yogi.

sonicedhoedown1 3 years ago 2
I almost cried when this aired on ESPN... I've been a Yankee fan all my life and I cannot believe that they are just going to tear the place down so Stienbrener can get his luxury boxes... All that history, all of those memories... I can't believe it's gone.
But, the Yanks won the Series when The Stadium opened, so maybe it'll happen in 2009?

I was at the game Sunday night, sitting near the right field foul pole. The saddest moment was right after the guys finished their lap around the perimeter when everyone in the place realized that THAT WAS IT. Was great to see Bernie and Tino and Brosius back though. Get em next year.
heoraptor11 3 years ago 2
I'm a Sox fan and I can honestly say I cried my eyes out the other day before during and after the game. I'm a huge Red Sox fan. In fact the biggest one I've ever met, but I'm more of a fan of baseball than I am of the Red Sox. You will never hear one bit of ignorance out of me or anyone else who is a true baseball fan. The last game played at yankee Stadium was one of the saddest days in my life. Baseball will never be the same without Yankee Stadium.
redsoxkid045 3 years ago 7
that has to be one the nicest things I have ever heard a Red Sox fan say.

GREED!
