  • About time you read it! ;) I really enjoyed the book. Read it when I did my first year of English at the University of Oslo, in 1995/1996. I liked the writing style, and the story. Just a well written piece, in my opinion.

  • @hiddeninabook - A favorite novel from back in my school days was Harold and Maude. I found hysterical, couldn't stop laughing while reading it in class.

  • @hiddeninabook - A teen has an odd relationship with a senior woman, they become close friends and spend a lot of time together. The story begins with the boy pretending to commit suicide in various ways in an effort to freak out members of his family...that was the funny part, for me.

  • It's sort of about childhood and growing up. That's partly why Salinger had Holden say "Goddammit" and hang out with strippers and drink and smoke. Holden is trying to act like he is grown up and mature but in doing these things he proves the opposite view. This is also why the carousel makes him so happy and he rubs "fuck you" off walls and he wants to be "the catcher in the rye". He blames adulthood for his emotional problems involving Allie so he doesn't want anyone else to grow up. On top o
