  • steinwaygrande1 - What your hearing and seeing is mainly the Grimethorpe Band, Good aren't they!

  • Great film and great to see the legend that is Jim Shephard sitting third man down

  • mr. Kobayashi !

  • Hey guys it seems you're all making a reference to a film. So what film is it?!

  • Is this not the official Grimethorpe Colliery Band that was used in the making of the film Brassed Off ???????

  • some of them are but my bands conductor (poynton youth brass) is one of the trombone players ;D

  • Many thanks for enlightening me. Its been a long time since I saw the movie, and although I have the CD from the movie, I wasnt sure which was which. I kind of gathered that there were professional musicians in the band , and that not all the actors were musicians. Still was a great movie

  • They should really have taught him how to conduct properly so he could at least do some of it properly!

  • absolutely awesome!!!! Brass bands really make my heart race and send tingles down my spine. love it!! any chance of getting the older guys {i cant remember his name} speech after they win?

  • Gut gemacht und gut gespielt^^

  • Nice upload, really sharp! As a pit lad i gotta ask--Wilhelm? LMAO I'm married to a German!! No way!!!!!!!!! I ain't no afficianado, but I reckon William Tell was definitely English lol. And no I'm not on here looking for arguments, please correct me if I'm wrong!

    Take care all.........!!!

  • Well when i played this piece it stood Wilhelm tell...But everyone knows this pretty good piece =) The Cornet solo is played by Paul Huges in this movie. He is orginal Member of the band at that time.he also plays the Flugle solo on "En Aranjuez con tu Amor" but he is sitting in another place so the camera doesent focus on him :P I love this movie, just ask me things about it,shal try to answer as best as i can.But you know? Ray Farr, has been contact with that band,he has i speaked with :D

  • The cornet solo is not played by Paul Hughes, it is played by Shaun Randall, who was the principal cornet at the time the film was made.

  • The spelling would come from the composer and that was Rossini, so Italian, Guglielmo Tell. The original, and disputed, character was a 14th century Swiss bloke. So Wilhelm Tell if he was German-Swiss and Guillaume Tell if he was French-Swiss. But William Tell in Britain. Excellent clip, shame it misses the acceptance speech which is used in Chumbawamba's Tubthumping "The truth is I thought it mattered, I thought music mattered, but does it bollocks, not compared to how people matter."

  • wow, very clean and precise. It's like DCI all over again 8^)

  • Thats how i conduct!(i make sure the curtains are drawn first though)

  • LoL

  • great conducting lol

  • as if a test piece at the national brass band championships would be the willam tell overture!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yeah, but imagine if they played pagannini variations. It's a movie. If you want to see championships buy the dvds.

  • joli arrangement pour cuivres!

  • c est vrai les cuivres sonnent magnifiquement

  • Well,i love this piece very much as well, and the movie :)

  • May I sound old fashioned, but I love this piece. (Not the Movie, the Music!)
