@jcramerjr Don't call me an idiot just because I like John Wetton more. In myopinion the Wetton era put out the best material. Although Belew's era was alright to me, I believe the reason behind this is because the change of decades. Three Of A Perfect Pair and Discipline are good albums, but they tried to fit into the new decade's sound too much. But in the end, I can't stand Adrian Belew lol
Hey! Let's all head over to something with The Melvins and start talking 'bout King Crimson! Oh. Wait. That would be a *dick* thing to do. Kind of like coming over here to a KC post and chatting up TMs. Wankers. King Crimson rulez....
id rather listen to the original than them wank all over this ..why is it that 60 year old ex rock stars *fail* in their dotage? Pete Townshend is also guilty... if you proggers out there [ note the word , progressive... moving forward ] like 'Red' then follow the continuing progresss of a band called The Melvins [ since circa 1983ish ] who write quite a few tunes of Red quality on EVERY album they release , at least one a year....
I enjoyed this but agree with you that it's not as amazing as the studio version. Also - spot on about the Melvins. Love them, and you're right, they are so prolific and yet consistently great. They're also probably amazingly nice guys. Have you seen these King Buzzo vids? /watch?v=RHSvjS4JQSQ So cool.
@barrybrien82 funny how I mention The Melvins and then didnt realise they are playing in London on Thursday 3 Nov 2011 , doh! .. and its sold out.... will have to go up to the Electric ballroom early and hope a fellow Melvin fan has a spare...that usually works... thanks for links.... check this recent full gig out also THE MELVINS - Live At Hellfest 2011 [HQ] by evilmantheone
Nice one will do. I've only seen them the once, in Galway about 5 years ago. Amazing gig. Are they still playing with Big Business with the 2 drummer set up?
@barrybrien82 yes Big Business still 50% Melvins...check that link I sent its them playing a whole gig recently in France properly filmed I think its from tour they just finishing of which Bristol is final gig on a boat in dock ...
Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew, and Bill Bruford are GODS. True rock royalty. The other various members of the immortal King Crimson (Greg Lake, et al) are not slouches either. Truly inspirational.
@mudjunky78 I( know, but I want Fripp, Belew, Bruford, Claypool, Levin and Gunn. That is like a dream lineup for me. Even if just for one album. I know Claypool, and Belew played together once, but they did not have Fripp, and Fripp is King Crimson, his old bandmates agreed when saying they would leave when it was more him then them. Claypool and crimson would kick some serious fucking ass.
@DavidKinner I agree with you david, i also think it would be cool if claypool brought some of his musicians with him like mike dillon who plays amazing vibe/marimba or skerik who plays the shit out of a sax, or sam bass claypools new crazy cello player, now that would be a hell of a show!
@DavidKinner Les Claypool did collaborate with Adrian Belew on Adrian's solo album. The song is called "Writing on the Wall". Danny Carey of Tool played drums for this track, too.
Great performance of the piece. A completely different line-up than originally came up with this piece except for Bruford and Fripp, but god damn magic all the same. I find the album version diffinitive on a way I can't describe.
I read that Fripp actually took a back seat creatively in this entire album, interesting, because I love it so much, even though I love the more pro-Fripp albums too.
LOOKs that way, but I don't think we can really know with Fripp in the mix. What amazes me is he can rock your socks off without even moving! Stoic! But he always looks as though he's having loads of fun -- in his own unique way, of course. I saw them several years ago. During Trey's solo, Fripp opened up his bag, pulled out some cheapie nail clippers, and did his nails as if it was nothing! The crowd was in hysterics! He tried to keep a straight face but it just wasn't working.
@minusjason he s such a humble great guy too... He literally blushed when I told him last year that he influenced me on guitar and in music in general more than anyone else...
His friends and associates call him Bob. He calls himself Bob. But in official matters (like in the credits for authoring a song) he uses his legal name, like most people do. For example, on the handful of songs Ringo Starr wrote, he signed them Richard Starkey. Exceptions abound, such as Bob Dylan (Robert Zimmerman) and Alice Cooper (Vincent Fournier).
Go back and listen to Jimi in light of what you just said: I've come to the conclusion that Jimi sought to MAKE LOVE to his music -- literally. I'm not saying he wanted to make love (to women) in time to his music or with his music as a backdrop. I'm saying that Jimi wanted to fuck the music itself, which he loved more than anyone or any thing.
Great!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@timi0000 Claypool and Carey actually joined Belew for three tracks on Side One-- "Ampersand," "Writing on the Wall," and "Matchless Man."
Also, that's not Belew's only solo album. He has many. Not sure if you were aware or not.
