This guy was amazing, so upbeat in his life and not willing to be stopped by it in any manner. I gotta say though, he would have made a great zombie! What a cool guy, and it's great that he lived as long as he did with no problems!
On the Freaks DVD, it's said that Eck had a full-bodied twin brother with whom he did the ultiamte sawing-a-man-in-half trick. Does anyone know if that was ever put on film?
Johnny was amazing; I love his one-armed handstands. That takes tons of strength, even though Johnny didnt have the extra weight of the bottom half of his body.
Johnny did have a pelvis, as well as small, non-functioning legs he kept tucked away under his clothing. The best guess of his condition is sacral agenesis.
Anyone know how Johnny functioned? He appears to have no pelvis at all...? He had a "normal" twin brother. They would be part of a vaudville act where a magician would saw the brother in half, Johnny would jump out and chase his lower half about (which was a little person with pants pulled up over his head! Cool!
I had heard that Leonardo DeCaprio was going to play Johnny, and that it was already in the works...He was a pretty talented painter as well....thanks for posting this!
I'm pretty sure Jeff Krulik, the documentary filmmaker who did "Heavy Metal Parking Lot" was the guy who did this trailer. Check out http://www.planetkrulik.com/
I found this clip on the web a few years ago. Someone who had access to footage like this of Johnny was going to make a documentary film about his life called "King of the Freaks". Since then I haven't been able to find the site or a copy of this video anywhere, which is why I put it up here.
Happy 100th birthday Johnny!

Johnny Eck is a legend and for a man with no lower torso he is extremely agile.

That whole scheme seems to have died in pre-production.
