  • Judith Durham is a 15 inch naval gun- to Whitney Houston's 51mm mortar.......AWESOME.-powerful, crystal clear and sweet as honey. Whitney Houston warbled & shouted her way through every song she did- overrated.

  • You can understand every word they are singing, unlike so much of the modern doggerel!

Great to listen to over and over again!

  • Great song,Thought these were british though.

  • one of the best songs ever!!

  • Йех ! из за Острова на стрежень !На простор речной волны !Выплывают расписные Стеньки Разина челны ! "абалдеть ! :-)

  • @aaatombo ...!!! Слушал песню лет 35 назад, искал столько же, сегодня благодаря You Tube нашел.., спасибо!!

  • Judith Durham's voice is spectacular-one of the best things to ever come out of Australia- even better than Kylie's fabulous derriere!! :)

  • I'd feel like Superman if I was the one standing by Judith. Up Up and Away!! Hold on to me Judith, I will protect you!

  • Call me old fashioned but I like this song

  • 1:08 I dont know why, but this guy reminds me the superman , Clark Kent...

  • @joshuademoraes It's Clark Kent masquerading as British agent Harry Palmer! Check out the Michael Caine glasses! lol :)

  • Compare Judith to the currently popular girl 'singers' and you'll see the difference between real singing and controlled shouting.

  • @Baskerville22 Agreed 100%. Judith sings this song beautifully, her voice is powerful and her diction is fantastic. Singers like Whitney Houston warbled through every song, which I think sounds awful frankly. There are very few good singers around these days, they either shout, warble, or have their voice electronically enhanced.

  • @LIVERPOOLSCOTTISH The paradigm instance of 'controlled shouting' is in Whitney Houston's I'll Always Love You, where she sings, " And I - aye-aye, will always love you -oo-oooo...etc" Houston had a great voice, but too often it wasn't singing that her vocal cords produced. Two greater American singers are Melissa Manchester and Vicki Carr.

  • No other voice to compare !!

  • Imagine the nightmare what would have been, had you dreampt she left you only to wake and spin around to see her sleeping there, softly breathing, none aware of the demons that brought your sweat to brow nor angels that hum and soothe you now.

  • Jeezus! That was totally amazing....and so very HQ! Wel done! I Love it!V

  • What a voice! Jees! She is an angel, beautiful...

  • for all there fans and memores

  • Bylo to moc krásné, bylo léto 1968 a tato píseň nám otevírala svět, bylo léto a byl krásný čas, ta píseň může znít i tisíc let a stále bude krásná, děkuji.

  • Fantastic footage Cheers for uploading ....

  • I haven't hear this since I was about 10. The Seekers had so many great songs and this one just made me fill up like a little girl..... Pure Class

  • Fella on the left was good looking!!!

  • what a big bulky pair of glasses he had lol....nice song anyway!

  • @liza8423 Ye..Ye..yes mister Tracy. Thunderbirds are go!

  • @liza8423 suited his face though, didn't they?

  • wow, never seen or heard this before, thanks.

  • The carnival is on again......AUSTRALIA DAY TODAY.

  • definitely the song I would like to bring ppl to tears with when I say my last goodbye

  • mega steve same me but inga green i have now found another

  • Me wants this played at my Funeral ....

  • i love you Judith Durham !!! oh , the harmonies ...what a band.

  • Probably the best ever band to come out of any country.

  • The Seekers definitely had something. All these years later I still don't know whether I like it - always reminds me of miserable Sunday afternoons. I guess it's the melancholy voice in Judith Durhams voice (which is obviously what also makes them good). Never anything rebellious about them (I was very young at the time - so apols if I've forgotten anything) - always a safe bet with your parents.

  • i married my judith, she's gone now but always in my heart, love you always.

  • One of the better songs from the sixties. And still even good singing live over the years. Great, just great. Greetings from Flanders, Harry.

  • She's Cute!

  • her voice is benevolent

  • back in 1965 Girl broke my Heart for the first time and this song had me tears every time I head it, If your still out there Hazel Ratcliffe Im fine now :))

  • @MegaStevie777 ~ There must have been 'something in the air' ~ like you I had my First Love dump me in early 1966 ~ caused me to join the RAF and I met my wife . Still hold a fond memory for 'Samantha' even after all these years

  • @MegaStevie777 Cheer up mate ..Maybe Hazel had a succession of rotten boyfriends after that , and married a ratbag who left her with three kids and she spent many a night weeping and wishing she had never let you go ..

  • This was my dear old mums favorite and for the first time for a very long time I'm sat here with tears streaming down my face rememembering all the good times.

  • One of truely great female singers of all time. Judith Durham and Karen Carpenter are the all-time great singers - so few that will equal them

  • what a great voice and good looks

  • Never realized, sitting in a T-Bird with a cheerleader who I thought I would love forever, how prophetic this song really was. That's life I guess.

  • u don't want me talking about "the Kennedys"

  • I coulda learned alot from her

  • Boomers from the 60's all considered the Seekers and Judith in particular as the "romantic" side of the 1960's offsetting the ugly assasinations of the Kennedys. Martin Luther King and the Viet Nam conflict - the decade would have been ugly except for the Seekers.

  • so many wonderful memories of when growing up.xxx

  • One of my top ten's

  • named as a national treasure in oz, judith is one amazing singer

  • As a child fo the 70s..Im always amazed at how amazing the songs from the 60s were..oh I wish Id been born a decade earlier to hear these songs first hand..

  • @TheWaterfallprincess ..this song and many others from the 60's reminds me of the song" Born to late" from the Poni Tails.. the title says it all for me!!!..the 60's must have been the greatest era ever, to be a Teenager!!!!

  • A heaven sent voice for a heaven sent angel...she is gorgeous!

  • Thank you for this, it is beautiful.

  • I just discovered this group... great harmonies and the lead singer is phenomenal! Her tone is pitch perfect! This my friends is a singer of the highest caliber!

  • WONDERFUL ..simply marvellous

  • what a lovely song

  • wow her voice is BEAUTIFUL,

  • judith durham ...voice of a angel

  • once heard this "ANGELS" voice will never be forgotten, judith durham was and still is a true SUPERSTAR,love you judith, xxx

  • @craigmcgowan1 So true!!..a gift from god!!

  • love her and her voice

    ps and this song

  • My god Judity is absolutely gorgeous.

  • Don't get me wrong, this is brilliant, but seems so Melbourne...

When does Crocodile Dundee make an appearance?

  • absolutly fantastic

  • Judith, what a fantastic voice

  • In 1967 I wanted to marry Judith. In 1977 I wanted to marry Judith. In 1987 I wanted to marry Judith. In 1997 I wanted to marry Judith. In 2007 I wanted to marry Judith. In 2017 I will want to marry Judith. I'm a steady guy!

  • @slaynt Get in the queue, your only one of thousands. lol

  • @slaynt ....I really like your comment .....soooo cute.BUT DOES SHE KNOW ABOUT IT? They say it's never too late.Have a glass of dutch courage and pop the question.Greetings from Australia.

  • @slaynt

I married my wife because she looks just like Judith. Plus a few other reasons. She can't sing like Judith though.

  • @slaynt ... Oops! Sorry theres only room for one 'Guy' in the Seekers!

  • @slaynt Yeah she was a 60s Gem.

  • @slaynt I married Judith in 1993,so there.

  • If there was a train to take me back to the sixties today, I would have been waiting at the station since yesterday.

  • I want some glasses like the bass player

  • Why didnt Judith ever wear a mini skirt, applicable to the era ?

  • @mrstevehartman she probs didnt have the stick thin legs that was all the rage back then and still is now....

  • @radiator0 Could be. Ive never seen her in a picture wheres shes wearing a shorter dress or pants !

  • love this

  • lesleydianne1,the carnival is never over , im sorry for your loss,

    remember the island of dreams.xx

  • We played this at Dad's funeral as it was his favourite in the 60's. Still brings tears to my eyes whenever I hear it. RIP darling Dad xxxx

  • Judith's voice is like an instrument, no-one will ever sound like her. She is truly unique and the boys' were a beautiful accompaniment - a match made in heaven!

  • i love this song judith has a lovely voice and is so beautiful

  • judith you are so natural, one of the singers the world has known

  • Say goodbye my own true lover As we sing a lovers song How it breaks my heart to leave you Now the carnival is gone High above the dawn is waiting And my tears are falling rain For the carnival is over We may never meet again Repeat: Like a drum my heart was beating And your kiss was sweet as wine But the joys of love are fleeting For Pierrot and Columbine Now the harbour light is calling This will be our last goodbye Though the carnival is over I will love you till I die
  • fantastische groep !!!

  • IMHO Judith Durham is the best female singer ever. Even today and apparently with breathing problems incredibly she still sounds the same! Sadly Judith was never as big as she should have been. She fell in between pop and opera. Mainsteam pop songs just didnt suit her fabulous voice and she left the Seekers to soon.

  • SO GOOD

  • A FANTASTIC GROUP,,,, ONE OF THE BEST. I HAVE SEEN THEM IN CONCERT HERE IN MELBOURNE SEVERAL TIMES.... UNFORGETABLE.... JUDITH DURHAM HAS BEEN WITH THE GROUP SINCE THE BEGINING THEN LEFT & WENT SOLO FOR A TIME,,, THEN RE-JOINED WITH THE GOUP AGAIN,,, HER HUSBAND PASSED AWAY NOT LONG AFTER THEY MARRIED.. MANY YEARS AGO NOW. I BELIEVE SHE HAS NEVER RE-MARRIED..

    Thankyou CountrynIrish for the send

ONE OF THE BEST TO COME OUT OF AUSTRALIA......

  • @CountrynIrish Thank You Sweet John For Your Lovely Share :) Love Patti~

  • Denny161853 What a beautiful song done by a great group. Can you tell me where the audio came from or is this the original and had background added?

  • Magic.....the only way to describe the Seekers' music. Judith and the boys were meant to perform together. And Judith's voice is a gift to the world.

  • A Jamieson Smile: Judith 1968: "Fashion and Class". This is the "only video" Judith has worn "Black Velvet", a fashion sense of "comfort and love".

"I will love you till I die." A Class Performer!

    With loving eyes and heart,

    Jamieson (Peter)

  • Clark Kent is playing the bass.

  • My God she is beautiful. The voice of an angel. There will never be another Judith Durham.

  • he never went to Specsavers. :-)

  • Somehow, someway...Judith reminds me of someone I used to know. Maybe she has one of those kind of faces. She was sure pretty when she was a young woman

One thing for sure, there will never be "another" Judith...what a beautiful voice.

  • @BUZZ4134 For sure, for sure!!! - but if you go to this performance, you will hear when she really, really sings out her heart of full power.......site overner Proculled....you will find it...Ed

  • Areckin you're right.

  • Sublime areckin.

  • 1:37 to 1:56 Go straight to the best part.

  • I bet Judith was a Heart-Breaker, what a Beautiful woman and Beautiful voice.

  • Nice colour video of the Seekers, and that powerful voice of Judith Durham is amazing!!!!!!!

  • i don't know this song but i know her voice is perfect

  • Such Beauty Judy i LOVE YOU

  • Just got turned back on to Judith Durham and the Seekers, after listening to them for the short time in the mid 60s, I can't beleive how beautiful Judith is, and how she sounds just as alluring today as she did in the 60s! What a great feeling i get when i hear her sing!

  • @tom2020 I agree 100% Tom..She truly was a gifted singer!!!...playing their songs over and over here on youtube..Nostalgia,thats me!!!

  • The best of all their songs.

  • i wonder if they paid royalties to the family of the composer in russia...springfield said he wrote it but thats not strictly true....

  • @chasam1234 I think the Russian composer was quite dead by the time the Seekers & Tom Springfield modernized and translated this great song into English. No one, including the Seekers and no doubt Tom Springfield tried to hide the origins of this Russian folk tune.

  • A voice like a bell - so clean and clear..

  • I remember watching them singing this at the closing ceremony of the Sydney Paralympics.

  • serch and listn: Song of Stepan Razin. Russian folk song. Из-за острова на стрежень.

  • those nice sixties

  • Bought the 45 vinyl in 1965...Ageless sound...Awesome voice.

  • judith is the best female singer ever

  • @TheWhinknowe

totaly agree - brilliant voice , perfect diction :)

  • i love this song!! :D

  • The incomparably beautiful Judith Durham and her angelic voice! The Seekers had -- and still have -- no peers.

  • use to listen to this when i was younger sitting with my mum and aunty peg round a log fire happy memories mum and aunty peg

  • I love this so much!

  • Judith is perfection-- if you have ever played a 12 string acoustic , you can really appreciated the great talent that each player of ‘THE SEEKERS’ put into each song!!

    .

My fondest memories of High School (in the ‘60’s) was being in the A Cappella choir and playing the 12 string. YOU CAN’T GET THE PROPER 60’s sound without it!! Ya needed an ORGAN for rock.

    .

After school was my SS396 and blonde girlfriend with the long legs.. Lee Ann if you hear this..I’m still sorry!!

    THANKS FOR POST

  • Judith looks great in black. Well, come to think of it, she looks great in pretty much any color.

  • Electrifying.

    Thanks original poster.

    All our yesterdays.

    -

The haunting voice, the poignant lyrics, the thuddening acoustic guitars, all matched. Thanks.

  • This is blissful. Judith's

voice is unbelievable but the rest of the band are equally amazing. Wow so so good.

  • It all came so easy & effortless to Judith, that why she always sound so dam good

  • I'm heading back to 1967. Has anybody got a time machine they could let me borrow?

  • @geomcguigan

Sure, borrow mine. ...you can return it to me last week!

  • @geomcguigan Take me with you

  • Wonderful song - wonderful voice - wonderful Judith!

    Thanks for posting this video!
