@cubling1971 Since Xavier Naidoo doesn't give interpretations for his own songs it's up to you to decide what it means for you. I think it's a bit deeper than you proposed. He's leaving her for the better and tells her that life still has so much to offer, while he's saying to himself that the way he chose there will be hard. He's taking a broken heart in the belief that it's for the better of his lover.
