This scene is, without a doubt, the high point of the film. Not only is it an awesome scene because Nanashi finally unsheathes his sword, but the symbolism is absolutely breathtaking. I can't help but feel that when Nanashi rips his sword from its binding, so too does he break himself free from the shackles of guilt that have haunted him since his days as a samurai. It's a message to everyone that it's never too late to turn your life around, no matter what mistakes you've made in the past

when nanashi was a child he probably cuted alot of apples from tall trees by throwing his blade at them, that why he was able to nail that guy at the end.

@NicholasGenske he uses the name Nanashi (nameless) since he was disgraced as a samurai and believes he no longer has the right to even draw his sword (until the end). Giving him the name Kensei would be a more honorific name rather then the name of a disgraced man.

Nanashi - hmn...I think a name better suited for him would be Kensei. The title of Kensei is reserved only for the greatest of swordsman.

Fun fact, the most well known Kensei was Musashi Miyamoto, old Japanese Swordmaster - inventor of the Two-Heavens as One style, and one of the few Undefeated in history.

@laerza201 Nanashi just means No Name in Japanese. Nanashi isn't actually Japanese, he was a forienger (most likely of Chinese, Korean or Southeast Asian descent) who was rescued from a shipwreck and has been living in Feudal Japan ever since.
