Use meths dipped in 3 or4 tiny balls of toilet paper/napkins/regular paper/cardboard to start wood pellets on top lit wood stoves. you can gets 1000s of fires from that method with one can of meths.
hey, i'm a recent wood gas enthusiast too. made requisite tin stoves as well. i'm glad to see you discovered wood pellets. it is rather scary how efficient they are supposed to be. glad to see you're taking a scientific approach. for future ref. though you should know that TLUD Gasifiers such as these tins are often only 40% efficient, and the pellet efficiency, that is based off expected efficiency from pellet stoves. Still, the burn times are spectacular and at approx. US$5/40# here...
The first one, the large one you saw in the video does work on preheated convection, so yes and that was good for thge larger quantities, but I havefound that it is not always essential, but I hypothesise that it is less essentail with smaller stoves. Make some ! they are great fun :)
Once I have worked out any little issues I have with updraft gassification, my plan, if I have one at all, would be to design and create an updraft gasifier that can be used for home heating and water heating.... These pellets are great, I may even go into the pellet business myself....

Great information!
Have you tried fabricating a model that pre-heats the combustion air?

Thanks for the clarification.
I have made a couple of my own designs, but have mostly made alcohol stoves.

I have found cardboard to be a very good (non toxic) fire starter for these small wood gas stoves. Would very much like to see her running.
