The hardware will be nice, but I'm not sure that it'll make a difference in 2012. We have cards now that easily handle what we throw at it and with many companies aiming for cross-platform success, we aren't pushing some of the dated hardware a lot of gamers have.

I'm still looking forward to SSDs coming down in price or Hybrid drives being worth a damn. Spending more on hard drives than a video card is unreasonable to me. =( Though I am picking up a 7XXX AMD card soon. =D

@Drkvamp77 A Radeon 6870 or Nvidia GTX 560, TI or not, are good cards that will last at least a year for under $250. Anything under that won't last more than probably 6 months as far as playing at a smooth frame rate is concerned. I know I'm not Brandon, but I hope this helps.

@fb39ca4 Sorry, but I disagree, given that he didn't mention only wanting to play Tribes. To play modern games at 1080p, I would consider the 6790 and 550 Ti to be fairly weak choices by today's standards, let alone 2-3 years from now.

@Drkvamp77 Well, it depends on your definition of affordable, but the cards I would recommend without knowing your budget would be the Nvidia GTX 560 Ti (my preferred brand is EVGA) or ATI Radeon 6950 (my preferred brand is Sapphire). Hope that helps!

@Drkvamp77 Tomshardware. They recently reviewed the 7970, which is a card from the series. It costs around $500 and out preforms everything on the market by 10-15%. Keep in mind that it is the only card to be released from the 7000 series yet and that it is also the second best. I'd say you'd be looking more along the lines of a 7850-7950. However, keep in mind that when they're released, if the 7850 is out preformed by a 6950 and the 6950 costs less, i'm sure you know what to do.

i've always enjoyed the tribes series but i think Ascend is going to really raise the f2p shooter bar. it takes some 'getting used to' but it really is a phenomenal and fun (and somewhat deep!) action shooter. i've been hooked on it for days already. and re: Max Payne - i never thought i'd say this ever again but, i'm actually looking forward to some decent bullet time mechanics in multiplayer. I haven't had the pleasure of high-quality slow-mo slaughter since The Specialists mod for HL1

Also, F2P is a great business model for PC gaming, and without bringing in numerical disputes, pc gaming suffers much more heavily from pirating than consoles. Make a free game, they must use official channels, and offer things in game items for $2, which can't be 'pirated' as it is only compatible with the official game.

As much as 'pay2win' is frowned upon, if handled correctly, as shown by TF2, it could be a very successful system.

Could you go over exactly what you are trying to accomplish (In CTF assuming that's the only game type) and what exactly you should do in order to win (besides obviously capping flags)? I honestly am COMPLETELY new to Tribes so I have no clue what this 'generator' is for and such lol.

@qKirbyp The generator powers your team's defensive turrets, deployable items, and inventory stations. Without your generator, your base essentially has no defense aside from the players' weapons themselves. I may do a video on some of the basic gameplay aspects of Tribes at some point to give new players a bit of knowledge to start out with as they learn the game.
